Retrieval of atmospheric water vapour from MOS-B imagery
As part of an effort to investigate the use of MOS-B imagery for land applications atmospheric water vapour was retrieved from MOS-B imagery. The atmospheric precorrected differential absorption (APDA) retrieval algorithm employs narrow spectral bands centered at 870, 940 and 1010 nm and a database with radiative transfer calculations. Maps of water vapour column were derived for multitemporal MOS-B scenes acquired in 1996. The comparison with water columns based on local radiosonde soundings agrees within 10 - 20 per cent
Striping Removal in MOS-B Data
MOS-B data corrected by standard calibration procedures are affected by "striping" in most channels. Striping arises because of the imperfect calibration of the detector characteristics. In this paper, we present a method for removing striping, in which the euqualization curves are estimated by explointing a data base of carefully selected homogeneous targets. We present the results obtained on sea target images. Such a case study is of great interest because it is related to ocean color applications, for which the MOS-B sensor was especially designed. We also estimate the reduction of striping noise in the equalized image by means of two appropriate indexes of quality
Derivation of Land Surface Parameters from MOS-B Data
The article gives an overview about the potential and limits of MOS-B data in land applications. It can be shown that although the module MOS-B was especially developed for ocean colour research its data provide the capability for derivation of land surface parameters in the regional scale

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Wheat crop inventory using high spectral resolution IRS-P3 MOS-B spectrometer data
Modular Optoelectronic Scanner (MOS-B) spectrometer data over parts of Northern India was evaluated for wheat crop monitoring involving (a) sub pixel wheat tractional area estimation using spectral unmixmg approach and (b) growth assessment b3 red edge shift at different phenological stages. Red shift of 10 nm was observed between crown root initiation stage to flowering stage. Wheat fraction estimates using linear spectral unmixing on Feb. 13. 1999 acquisition of MOS-B data bad high correlatiol7 {0.82) with estimates from Wide Field Sensor (WiFS) data acquired on same date by IRS-P3 platfonn. It was observed that live bands 14.5.8.12.13 MOS-B bands) are saffieient for signature separability of major land cover classes viz. wheat, urban, wasteland, and water based on purely spectral separability, criterion using Transformed Divergence (T.D.) approach. Higher number of bands saturated the T.D. values. [n contrast, performanee of sub pixel fractional area estimation using unmixing decreased drastically for eight bands (4.5.6,728.9. 12,13 MOS-B bands l chosen from optimal band selection criteria in comparison to full set of 13 bands. The relative deviation between area estimated from Wifs and MOS-B increased from 1.72 percent when all thirteen bands were used in unmixing to 26. I0 percent for the above eight bands

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
