Immunotheray-reversed compulsive, monoaminergic, circadian rhthm disorder in Morvan Syndrome

    No full text
Antibodies to voltage-gated potassium channels (VGKC-Abs) have been recognized in neuromyotonia, limbic encephalitis (LE), and Morvan syndrome (MoS),1,2 a rare condition with insomnia, peripheral, and central and autonomic nervous system involvement. Clinical progression in MoS is variable, but potentially fatal. We describe a patient with VGKC-Abs-positive MoS who showed prominent compulsive behaviors, basal ganglia hypermetabolism, increased catecholamine and serotonin secretion, epileptic seizures, and cardiac and endocrine circadian rhythm suppression. A striking response to immunotherapy paralleled a marked reduction in VGKC-Abs over 15 months

Bernardino da Siena : Eretici del passato e del presente

    No full text
The Observant had an important role in the control of heresy. Bernardino of Siena never was inquisitor, nevertheless he behaved as one especially in Milan, in 1437, when he red from the pulpit accusations against the magister abaci Amedeo Landi, later used in a trial. The discovery of new inquisitorial documents let us understand an unknown aspect related to Bernardino of Siena who, while preaching, often refers to heretics of the past or contemporary to him, that is to say Marguerite Porète, Dolcino of Novara, Jan Hus and Amedeo Landi

Differential Acquisition of m-Sequences using Recursive Soft Sequential Estimation

    No full text
In this contribution a novel sequential estimation method is proposed for the acquisition of mm-sequences. This sequential estimation method exploits the principle of iterative soft-in-soft-out (SISO) decoding for enhancing the acquisition performance, and that of differential pre-processing for the sake of achieving an enhanced acquisition performance, when communicating over various communication environments. Hence the advocated acquisition arrangement is referred to as the Differential Recursive Soft Sequential Estimation (DRSSE) acquisition scheme. The DRSSE acquisition scheme exhibits a low complexity, which is similar to that of an mm-sequence generator, while achieving an acquisition time that is linearly dependent on the number of stages in the mm-sequence generator. A low acquisition time is achieved with the advent of the property that the proposed DRSSE scheme is capable of determining the real-time reliabilities associated with the decision concerning a set of, say SS, consecutive chips. This set of consecutive chips constitutes the sufficient initial condition for enabling the local mm-sequence generator to produce a synchronized local despreading mm-sequence replica. Owing to these attractive characteristics, the DRSSE acquisition scheme constitutes a promising initial synchronization scheme for acquisition of long mm-sequences, when communicating over various propagation environments

∑_(l+m=k,l,m≥0) ((α+l-1)¦l) ((β+m-1)¦m)=((α+β+k-1)¦k) and its application to negative binomial distribution

We prove here the following equation: ∑_(l+m=k,l,m≥0) ((α+l-1)¦l) ((β+m-1)¦m)=((α+β+k-1)¦k) and give its application to prove the reproductive property of the negative binomial distribution. These finite sum equation involving binomial coefficients and proof of the reproductive property are not known as far as the author knows.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Triple, MPEG-conjugated, helix-forming oligonucleotides (TRIPEGXs): Liquid-phase synthesis of natural and chimeric "all-purine" sequences linked to high molecular weight poly(ethylene glycols)

    No full text
Long "all-purine" oligonucleotides, up to the 20mer, known to be active as antigene effectors, conjugated to high molecular weight monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol)s (MPEG)s, were successfully synthesized. Through a liquid-phase, MPEG-supported process, both natural and chimeric sequences containing selected phosphorothioate backbone modifications were obtained, purified, and characterized. To follow their cellular trafficking, a fluorescent probe was linked by soluble supported organic reactions to the 5 ' -terminus, and the efficiency of the different synthetic procedures for the introduction of a fluorescein moiety was compared. The usefulness of the fluorescent marker was estimated by laser confocal microscopy that ascertains that the MPEG-conjugation enhances the oligonucleotide capacity to cross the cellular membranes and to be accumulated inside the nuclei
