    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Ensamblados metalosupramoleculares de porfirinoides: aplicaciones como fotosensibilizadores en reacciones fotoredox y terapia fotodinámica

Fecha de Lectura: 11-10-2022Esta tesis tiene embargado el acceso al texto completo hasta el 11-04-2024En esta tesis doctoral se han sintetizados estructuras supramoleculares bidimensionales (2D) y tridimensionales (3D), basadas en ftalocianinas (Pc), subftalocianina (SubPc) y BODIPYs, para su posterior utilización como fotosensibilizadores (PS). Estos derivados porfirínicos son ampliamente utilizados en la formación de complejos supramoleculares existiendo un gran número de artículos en la bibliografía que describen la formación de ensamblados metal-ligando basados en estas moléculas las cuáles son capaces de formar complejos anfitrión-huésped. Por otro lado, las estructuras metalo-orgánicas ha suscitado un gran interés, ya que permite su utilización en un gran número de aplicaciones entre las que destacan la biomedicina, la catálisis, el reconocimiento molecular y su aplicación como sensores moleculares. En el capítulo 1, se han diseñado complejos metalosupramoleculares 3D de Pcs tanto homolépticos ([Pd2Pc4]4+) como multicomponente ([Pt8Pc2L4]8+), las cuales presentan cavidades centrales que permiten la encapsulación de derivados de fullereno. En ambos casos las Pcs elegidas presentan una funcionalización asimétrica del tipo ABAB con grupos voluminosos que se encuentran di- o tetrafuncionalizadas con grupos etinilpiridina o carboxifenil que actúan como grupos coordinantes los cuales se unen con sales de Pd(II) o Pt(II). Para el caso de las cajas metalo-organicas multicomponentes, además se emplean ligandos ditópicos lineales. Además, se realizan estudios de encapsulación de fullereno C60 con el fin de estudiar las interacciones fotofísicas anfitrión-huesped entre los distintos componentes. Los complejos Pt8Pc2L4@C60 formados, se obtuvieron mediante la adición de C60 a la reacción de formación de la caja, y se estudió además la encapsulación posterior, registrando las variaciones de emisión fluorescente de una disolución de la caja tras la adición de C60. Por otro lado, en este mismo capítulo, se detalla la síntesis de una batería de cápsulas homodiméricas hexacatiónicas de SubPc (Pd3SubPc2) para su utilización como matraces moleculares en diferentes reacciones de adición sobre fullerenos. Las SubPcs utilizadas presentan simetría C3 y se encuentran funcionalizadas en la periferia con grupos 3-etinilpiridina coordinantes y en posición axial con grupos hidrofílicos lo que permite obtener nanocontenedores que presentan una cavidad hidrofóbica en medios acuosos. También se ha observado que al utilizar contraniones triflato las cápsulas eran solubles en disolventes orgánicos, mientras que al utilizar iones nitrato como contranión la caja es capaz de disolverse en disolventes orgánicos. Aprovechando esta cualidad, se estudian las reacciones de cicloadición de Diels-Alder entre el fullereno (C60 o C70) y el antraceno en medios acuosos, las cuales no han sido descritas hasta la fecha. Además, se llevan a cabo reacciones de adición radicálica fotoredox sobre el fullereno C60 en medios confinados, lo que supone una novedad para este tipo de reacciones. Se ha conseguido llevar a cabo reacciones que puede iniciar procesos fotoredox en forma tanto de quencheo reductor como de quencheo oxidativo. En el capítulo 2 se han sintetizado una serie de 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacenos (BODIPYs) funcionalizados con grupos piridina en las posiciones 2 y 6, los cuales se coordinan a una sal de Pt(II) para formar metalo-macrociclos 2D con estructura triangular. La facilidad para modificar su estructura hace que los BODIPYS sean buenos candidatos para la formación de nanoestructuras. Dichos complejos supramoleculares se estudian como agentes teragnósticos, debido a la combinación entre la acción quimioterapéutica de la sal de Pt(II) y la capacidad fotodinámica del BODIPY y a las propiedades fluorescentes de los BODIPYS que permite que actúe como agente de imagen, siendo posible su seguimiento en la internalización de las células mediante técnicas espectroscópicas. Los BODIPYS sintetizados presentan motivos hidrofílicos (PEG o β-D-glucosa) en la posición meso para favorecer la solubilidad en agua y favorecer la formación de nanopartículas. Además, el derivado glucosilado aumenta la especificidad del metalaciclo final debido a la sobreexpresión de las células tumorales. Los estudios in-vitro realizados sobre diferentes células tumorales de adenocarcinoma colorrectal humano HT29, células de carcinoma de pulmón humano A549 y en células de hepatoma humano R-HepG2, resistente a los medicamentos, revelan una gran capacidad como agentes teragnósticos presentando una mayor capacidad como PS el derivado que presenta el carbohidrat

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
