Wristwatch use and hospital-acquired infection
The wrists and hands of hospital-based healthcare workers (HCWs) were sampled for bacterial contamination in two consecutive cross-sectional cohort studies of wristwatch wearers and non-wristwatch wearers. In the first study (N=100), wrists were sampled by skin swabs and hands by direct plate inoculation. In the second study (N=155) wrists were sampled after each HCW removed the watch immediately prior to sampling. Staphylococcus aureus was found on the hands of 25% of wristwatch wearers and 22.9% of non-wristwatch wearers in the first study. Watch wearers had higher counts of bacteria on their wrist (P<0.001) but not on their hands. In the second study, removal of the watch prior to sampling resulted in increased counts of bacteria on both hands as well as on the watch wrist compared with non-watch wearers (P<0.001). In conclusion, wearing a wristwatch results in an increase in bacterial contamination of the wrist but excess hand contamination does not occur unless the watch is manipulate

A.R Baswedan dan PAl: Potret Nasionalisme Warga Keturunan perspektif sosiopolitik historis
In this article, the authors review about A.R. Baswedan
and his movement through the Arab Party of Indonesia (PAl).
A.R Baswedan is an Arab descendant known as the pioneer
of independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The author
through historical socio-political studies found that A.R
Baswedan is an example of Arabic descent who counter
Arabism and views between the Arab descendants and the
descendants of indigenous Indonesians are the same or
equal and the same fate. They both have one nationality,
Indonesia. This fusion attitude in the Indonesian citizenship
and nationality equation is evident in its movement within
the PAl.

Bifurcation analysis of surge and rotating stall in the Moore-Greitzer compression system
A simple compression system model, described by a set of three ordinary nonlinear differential equations (the Moore-Greitzer model) is studied using bifurcation analysis to give a qualitative understanding of the presence of surge and rotating stall. Firstly, three parameter values are chosen and a reduced planar system is studied to detect the local bifurcations of pure surge modes. The global bifurcation diagrams are then completed with the help of the continuation software AUTO. A special feature of this 2D system is a set of parameter values where two Takens-Bogdanov points merge. As a next step, the interaction of surge and rotating stall modes is analysed using the same branch tracking technique. Several novel bifurcation scenarios are described. Two-parameter bifurcation maps are computed and a satisfactory agreement with experimental results is found. An explanation is given for the onset of deep surge, rotating stall, classic surge and the hysteresis effects experienced in measurements
Do UK based weight management programmes cause weight loss maintenance in adults? A systematic review
The aim of this dissertation was to examine whether UK based weight management programmes promote weight loss maintenance (follow up of 12 months to assess effectiveness of intervention in weight loss) in adults through the process of a systematic review. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has described obesity as a "global epidemic". Weight management comprises two phases; weight loss and weight loss maintenance. The latter phase is the true goal for obesity and the most difficult element of weight management to achieve. However much less is know about this as compared with the weight loss phase. There is little purpose in committing time and money to reducing obesity if the weight is regained. This is counter-productive and weight loss maintenance is essential to combat the obesity epidemic. Searches were made for relevant information from a variety of scientific online databases and journals,. Seven articles met the inclusion criteria and were analysed in the review. All studies incorporated a multi-component (diet, exercise, behaviur modification) intervention approach. All control and internvetion groups reported weight loss at 12 months when compared with baseline. All groups recieved an intervention. One study reported a significant difference (P<0.05) between groups. Four studies reported on at least one component (diet, physical activity, behaviour modification) however there was not enough information to conclude whether they complied with national guidelines (NICE CG43 and SIGN 115). High attrition rates and loss to follow up are problematic for each study except one. Analysis on an intention to treat basis was common however this is problematic and there are alternative methods which may be more suitable for dealing with missing data

The author has shown the relevance and importance of the neuropsychological approach to the pedagogical psychology problems and the availability to choose an adequate educational and nurturing strategy from these standpoints. The study seeks to rethink and assess the importance of A.R. Luria’s main ideas from the modern pedagogical psychology’s standpoints. The characteristic of the main theoretical provisions has been set forth based on the analysis of A.R. Luria’s academic papers and the main directions and prospects for the development of A.R. Luria’s ideas in the modern psychological pedagogical science have been determined. A.R. Luria’s academic papers most sought by the modern researchers have been noted. The study is based on the materials of the thesis researches on the pedagogical psychology problems conducted in the beginning of the twenty-first century, A.R. Luria’s papers, the publications of other researchers who have studied his contribution to the psychological science. The study results show that A.R. Luria has significantly contributed to the development of the pedagogical psychology problems. A.R. Luria’s ideas on the interaction of the humanitarian and science knowledge in the human comprehensive study, the cultural and historical understanding of the psychical functions development, and the language evolution in the music language study for the musical education development seem most promising for the pedagogical psychology development. Note has been taken of the importance of A.R. Luria’s ideas for the elaboration of the relevant problems of the training and development of a person at any age; the study of individual and typical features in mastering a foreign language; the study of the semantics of speech and means of coding meanings in the context of professional training of psychologists and teachers, specialists in the field of artistic creativity. The analysis of A.R. Luria’s main ideas facilitates the deeper understanding of the modern problems of the pedagogical psychology theory and practice
Derivation In A Nonequilibrium Ensemble Formalism Of A Far-reaching Generalization Of A Quantum Boltzmann Theory
Within the framework of the nonequilibrium statistical ensemble formalism provided by the nonequilibrium statistical operator method, we derive a quantum Boltzmann-style transport theory of a broad scope. This is done by choosing the single- and two-particle dynamical density operators as the basic informational-statistical variables. The equations of evolution for their average values over the nonequilibrium ensemble, the nonequilibrium-reduced Dirac-Landau-Bogoliubov-type density matrices, are obtained. From the resulting generalized nonlinear quantum transport theory, after resorting to perturbative-like expansions, a far-reaching generalization of Boltzmann equation for the single-particle distribution function is derived. A type of traditional Boltzmann equation follows after using stringent approximations, whose limits of validity are evaluated.2841140160Lebowitz, L.L., Montroll, E.W., (1983) Studies in Statistical Mechanics X. Incorporation of acceleration effects into the one-dimensional-turbulence model, with application to turbulent combustion and shock-turbulence interactions
One-dimensional turbulence (ODT) is a stochastic simulation in which 3D turbulence effects are captured on a notional 1D line of sight by introducing instantaneous spatial re-arrangements (maps) that represent advection by notional turbulent eddies. These eddy events incorporate the possibility of kinetic-energy changes that are equal and opposite to changes of other forms of energy such as the gravitational potential energy change due to a re-arrangement of a vertical density profile. This illustrates that motion aligned with an applied force, in this case gravitation , can be associated with energy change. Using this principle, we 1) present a model of turbulence interaction with the dilatational acceleration caused by thermal expansion in flames and show results for a turbulent counterflow flame with comparison to DNS and 2) present a model for shock-induced turbulence and show results for mixing width growth in a shock tube with comparison to experiments
ODTLES: A multi-scale ansatz for highly turbulent flows
We use ODTLES, a multi-dimensional extension of the One-Dimensional-Turbulence model (ODT). ODT describes turbulent advection on a 1D sub-domain using a stochastic process for turbulent advection. These 1D sub-domains are coupled to obtain a 3D approach. ODTLES is applied to channel flow. Preliminary results for the pdf of the wall shear stress are compared to DNS
