Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

학위논문(박사) - 한국과학기술원 : 화학과, 2020.8,[v, 52 p. :]Layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly is a facile and versatile method for surface engineering. LbL assembly has been widely applied to various applications, including drug delivery, tissue engineering, single-cell nanoencapsulation (SCNE) by applying nature-derived biopolymers, which have intrinsic biocompatibility and biodegradability. In particular, polysaccharides are the most abundant polymer in nature and also basic structural materials of natural organisms. Due to these advantageous features of polysaccharides, polysaccharide-based LbL films have considerable potential for making the functional interface with biodegradability and nature-mimetic properties. In this thesis, various LbL films have been designed and fabricated with nature-derived polysaccharides, and can be categorized as follows. (1) Ulvan-based neurocompatible LbL films: Ulvan, the sulfated polysaccharide extracted from the cell wall of green seaweed of Ulva species, has a similar structure with extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules, which is expected to have neurocompatibility in general. LbL films with ulvan and chitosan were fabricated, and the neurocompatibility was examined on the films with hippocampal neurons. Ulvan-based LbL films showed stable adhesion of neuronal cells and even accelerated neurite outgrowth, which was comparable with poly-D-lysine-coated control substrates. The ulvan-based surface could also suppress astrocyte adhesion. This LbL film with ulvan and chitosan could be a functional neurocompatible surface for further applications, including neuro-implants.(2) Starch-based cytocompatible and degradable LbL films: Starch has intrinsic cytocompatibility and outstanding biodegradability which induced by -amylase. The starch-based LbL nanofilms were fabricated with synthesized cationic starch (c-ST) and alginate (ALG). All the processes, including film formation and degradation, proved highly cytocompatible, and this cytocompatible characteristic of the system was advantageously applied to SCNE. The c-ST/ALG shells were formed and degraded in a controlled fashion on individual Saccharomyces cerevisiae without any noticeable loss in cell viability. The -amylase-triggered film degradation was also applied to the controlled release of DNA molecules from the multilayer films. The nature-derive polysaccharides-based LbL films were successfully fabricated and demonstrated neurocompatibility and cytocompatible degradability with ulvan and starch, respectively. These polysaccharides showed their intrinsic characteristics on the LbL films and proved their applicability in neuronal culture and SCNE. The systems designed in this thesis could have considerable potential in further biomedical applications and provide possibilities for further studies with nature-derived polysaccharides.한국과학기술원 :화학과

학위논문(박사) - 한국과학기술원 : 문술미래전략대학원, 2023.8,[iv, 127 p. :]National industrial development policies, organizational leadership, and followership play pivotal roles in navigating uncertain futures and facilitating effective decision-making. This comprehensive study delves into the future strategic initiatives and foresight pursued by Korea in the 1960s to propel its manufacturing sector forward. The investigation unveils a sequential progression of technologies, industries, and systems, charting a transformative trajectory from underdevelopment to a burgeoning economy. Meticulously curated historical research elucidates Korea’s visionary approach, characterized by forward-thinking technology planning and industry development strategies rooted in scientific and technological acumen. A seminal cornerstone was laid with the establishment of a steel mill as the foundational industry, while astutely nurturing strategic sectors with significant interconnections. To holistically expound upon the rapid ascent of Korean manufacturing, we introduce the Landscaping Model of Industry.
Shifting our scholarly gaze to the dynamics within organizations, this study scrutinizes the interplay between leader narcissism, leadership typologies, and follower performance across both technology and non-technology domains. Evidentiary findings underscore the moderating influence of leader narcissism, revealing its propensity to temper the positive impact of transformational leadership on follower performance, while concurrently augmenting the adverse effects of transactional leadership. Notably, this phenomenon exhibits industry-specific ramifications, predominantly manifesting in the technology sector. Additionally, we delve into the intricate fabric of followership, specifically exploring the intricate interrelationship between follower narcissism and their perceptions of leadership. Our empirical evidence showcases an affirmative association between heightened levels of follower narcissism and their propensity to perceive leaders as transformative figures, while no such correlation emerges in the realm of transactional leadership.
The pioneering Landscaping Model proffers invaluable insights for nations aspiring to emulate Korea’s triumphant metamorphosis from underdevelopment to burgeoning prosperity, providing a structured framework to document and formalize their own future strategies. Moreover, this study bestows practical implications for fortifying leader-employee relationships and fostering organizational excellence, thoughtfully accounting for industry-specific nuances. Furthermore, it propels theoretical advancements in the understanding of followership dynamics, enriching the scholarly discourse surrounding leadership paradigms.한국과학기술원 :문술미래전략대학원
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
