Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Creencias Sobre Actividades Extracurriculares, Las Competencias Socioemocionales y el Juego, para la Formación Integral en la Educación Superior
Get PDFEsta investigación se realizó desde un paradigma cualitativo con metodología interpretativa, para conocer las creencias acerca de la relación entre las actividades de formación extracurricular, el juego y las competencias socioemocionales, desde la visión de entrenadores y profesionales responsables de actividades extracurriculares artísticas o deportiva, vinculados a unidades de Bienestar Universitario (o afines) en Instituciones de Educación Superior en Colombia. Para la presente investigación se realizó en primer lugar una caracterización de las actividades extracurriculares en 43 Instituciones de educación superior, luego se realizó el análisis de contenido de las políticas y lineamientos sobre bienestar universitario de 4 universidades, y posteriormente los anteriores resultados se contrastaron contra la interpretación de 14 entrevistas en profundidad a entrenadores y directivos expertos en actividades extracurriculares. Los resultados mostraron las particularidades y diferencias de la organización académico – administrativa de las actividades extracurriculares de arte y deporte que se ofrecen en universidades colombianas. Se encontró una creencia de que estas actividades promueven competencias intra e interpersonales, disciplina y fomento del trabajo en equipo; igualmente se encontró que las características de extracurricular y recursos de juego que se utilizan en estas actividades deportivas y culturales permite el establecimiento de una atmósfera de círculo mágico. Esta atmósfera se origina en la voluntad del participante, en las relaciones de confianza entre los participantes y el docente, y en las características del tiempo y lugar donde ocurren estas actividades; Este ambiente de confianza es promotor de salud mental desde actividades extracurriculares en las universidades. Se encuentran tensiones asociadas a la diversidad de condiciones de vinculación de los profesionales de actividades extracurriculares, e igualmente tensiones vinculadas con los lugares – tiempos para este tipo de actividades en la organización administrativa que dificultan la continuidad de los procesos, y se ubica una tensión asociada al concepto del tiempo libre y la incorporación del juego en la educación superior. Basándose en los hallazgos, se realiza una propuesta de formación para el grupo de entrenadores y profesionales vinculados a estas actividades extracurriculares, para potenciar las características de extracurricular como promotor de competencias socioemocionales en las instituciones, y por tanto, generar un espacio de bienestar y salud mental, desde una atmósfera que incluye necesariamente el juego como contexto.This research was carried out from a qualitative paradigm with interpretive methodology, to know the beliefs about the relationship between extracurricular activities, play and socio-emotional competencies, from the perspective of coaches, teachers and professionals responsible for extracurricular artistic or sports activities, linked to University Welfare units (or related) in Higher Education Institutions in Colombia. For the present investigation, a characterization of the extracurricular activities in 43 higher education institutions was conducted, Therefore, it was made a content analysis of the policies and guidelines on university welfare of 4 universities, and those results were contrasted against the interpretation of 14 in-depth interviews with expert coaches, teachers and managers in extracurricular activities. The results showed the particularities and differences of the academic-administrative organization of the extracurricular activities of art and sports that Colombian universities offer. Belief of participants in the study, states that these activities promote intra- and interpersonal skills, discipline and encouragement of teamwork. It was found that the characteristics of extracurricular and game resources also used in these sports and cultural activities allow the establishment of a magic circle atmosphere. This atmosphere originates in the will of the participant, in the relationships of trust between the participants and the teacher, and in the characteristics of the time and place where these activities take place; this environment of trust is a promoter of mental health from extracurricular activities in universities. . There are tensions associated with the diversity of formal conditions of extracurricular activities professionals, and also tensions linked to the spaces - times for this type of activities in the administrative organization that hinder the continuity of the processes, and an associated tension is located to the concept of free time and the incorporation of play in higher education. Based on the findings, a training proposal is made for the group of coaches, teachers and professionals linked to these extracurricular activities, to enhance the characteristics of extracurricular as a promoter of socio-emotional competencies in universities, and therefore, for generate a space of well-being and mental health, from an atmosphere that necessarily includes play as a context.Doctor en EduaciónDoctorad

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
