She has extensive experience as an educator, researcher, consultant and administrator. Since the mid-1970's, Dr. White concentrated her work on coordinating health and community-based service delivery systems for older adults and their families. A nationally-recognized author and lecturer in the aging field, Dr. White is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Healthy Aging in Santa Monica, California, and an adjunct professor at the USC Davis School of Gerontology in Los Angeles. Vapaaehtoisten työssä jaksaminen Monika-Naiset liitto ry:ssä
Full text linkVapaaehtoistoiminnan suosio Suomessa on ollut viime vuosina nousussa ja tutkimusten mukaan jopa 40% suomalaisista tekee tällä hetkellä säännöllisesti vapaaehtoistyötä. Tästä syystä järjestökentällä on pitkään pohdittu ja kehitetty myös vapaaehtoisten jaksamisen tukemiseksi erilaisia toimia. Monika Naiset ry:n toiminnassa vapaaehtoisilla on suuri rooli järjestön asiakasryhmän, maahanmuuttajataustaisten naisten, aktivoimisessa ja kotouttamisessa.
Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli vastata kahteen tutkimuskysymykseen: miten Monika Naiset ry:ssä toimivat vapaaehtoiset jaksavat vapaaehtoistyössään sekä kartoittaa millaista tukea vapaaehtoiset itse kaipaisivat järjestöltä. Tutkimuksessa haastateltiin viittä Monika Naiset ry:n vapaaehtoista ja tavoitteena oli sekä antaa vapaaehtoisille informaatiota työssä jaksamisesta että kerätä tietoa vapaaehtoistoiminnan järjestäjälle vapaaehtoisten jaksamisesta ja sen tukemisesta.
Opinnäytetyö on luonteeltaan kvalitatiivinen ja sen aineisto on kerätty puolistrukturoiduilla haastatteluilla. Aineiston analysointiin on käytetty teorialähtöistä sisällönanalyysiä. Vapaaehtoisten haastatteluista kävi selvästi ilmi, että ikä ja kokemus vaikuttavat siihen, miten kuormittavana vapaaehtoistoimintaa pidetään. Työikäiset vapaaehtoiset ovat pohtineet huomattavasti enemmän omaa jaksamistaan ja toivovat enemmän erilaisia tukimuotoja kuin vapaaehtoiset, joilla on taustalla joko ammatillista osaamista tai useampia eri vapaaehtoistoiminnan muotoja. Haastatteluiden perusteella tukea kaivataan eniten ohjaamiseen ja haastavien asiakastilanteiden kohtaamiseen.General interest in volunteer work has been on the rise lately in Finland and according the statistics, nearly 40% of Finns do voluntary work regularly. It is why organizations have started to plan different ways to support volunteer workers. In Monika – multicultural women’s association a large part of the activities is run by volunteers, helping immigrant women in social integration in Finland
The aim of this thesis was to answer two research questions: how do the volunteers cope with their volunteer work, and what kind of support they would like to receive from the Monika – multicultural women’s association. Five volunteers were interviewed, and the goal of the thesis was to give volunteers more information on well-being and collect information on volunteer well-being and different needs for support for the organization.
The thesis is qualitative and the material was gathered using a semi-structured interview technique. The material was analyzed using content analysis. The interviews revealed that the volunteers who were also working or studying had spent more time on thinking how to cope with the volunteer work than the interviewees who had previous occupational knowledge or more experience in volunteering. From the interviews it was discovered that more support was needed on how to conduct groups and how to deal with challenging situations with clients
