Constructing "Heimat" in the Ruhr Valley: Krupp housing and the search for the ideal German home 1914-1931
Few German history topics have garnered as much attention as the nuanced meaning of Heimat and the controversial past of the Krupp steel firm. This article examines their historical intersection in the housing realm. Between 1914 and 1931, when the impact of World War I entirely reframed the housing question, Heimat advocates like Hermann Muthesius and Paul Schultze-Naumburg used examples of Krupp estates to depict their vision of the ideal German home. These historically neglected Krupp settlements were hybrids of vernacular and modern influences and served as significant precursors to the dominant Kleinsiedlung housing still dotting the German landscape. Producción orgánica de tomate de mesa (Solanum lycopersicum L.) en invernadero con técnicas de injerto y bancal profundo en La Molina

Departamento Académico de HorticulturaEl presente trabajo experimental realizado en la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina tuvo como objetivo principal determinar la producción del cultivo orgánico de seis cultivares de tomate de mesa (Solanum lycopersicum L.) con técnicas de injerto y de preparación del suelo con bancal profundo. Los cultivares, de polinización abierta fueron: Tres Cantos Sel. Gigante, Striped German, Yellow Brandywine, Green Zebra, Japanese Black Triefele y RAF, utilizando plantas injertadas y sin injertar. Se instalaron 2 ensayos simultáneos: con y sin la técnica de bancal profundo. En cada ensayo los cultivares francos e injertados fueron distribuidos en un diseño estadístico de Bloques Completamente al Azar con tres repeticiones. Para la comparación de los ensayos con y sin bancal profundo se hizo una prueba de homogeneidad de variancia y una comparación estadística mediante análisis combinado. El uso de injerto incrementó el rendimiento del cultivo de tomate en invernadero, con diferencias estadísticas altamente significativas entre las plantas injertadas (7.29 kg/m2) y no injertadas (5.37kg/m2). Los mejores resultados obtenidos en la variable rendimiento fueron en primero lugar el cultivar RAF injertado con 15.33 kg/m2 y sin injertar con 10.06 kg/m2, y como segundo lugar el cultivar Japanese Black T. injertado 9.51 kg/m2 y sin injertar 6.81 kg/m2. En la comparación del método de bancal profundo no se encontraron diferencias estadísticas significativas siendo el rendimiento de 6.55 kg/m2 en el ensayo con bancal y 6.12 kg/m2 en el ensayo sin bancal. El análisis económico mostró que el cultivo de tomate de mesa (Solanum lycopersicum L.) conducido bajo manejo orgánico en invernadero es rentable y una muy buena oportunidad de inversión.Tesi
Wool Characteristics of Corriedale Sheep and German Merino Raised in High Mountain Conditions
El objetivo fue evaluar y comparar las características de la lana de dos razas ovinas Corriedale y Merino Alemán con fines comerciales. El estudio fue realizado en la SAIS Pachacútec (Junín) y se utilizaron en total 140 muestras de vellón proveniente de la esquila de los meses de febrero y diciembre del 2020 de las razas Corriedale (n=70) y Merino Alemán (n=70). El análisis de las muestras fue realizado en el Laboratorio de Fibras Textiles, Pieles y Cueros del Programa de Investigación y Proyección Social en Ovinos y Camélidos Americanos (POCA), Facultad de Zootecnia de la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM). Se estudiaron los parámetros que definen las características productivas de la lana referidos a: Peso de Vellón Sucio (PVS) de 2.59±0.06kg y 2.25±0.06kg; Longitud de Mecha (LM) de 7.41±0.02cm y 6.35±0.18cm; Diámetro de Fibra (DF) de 24.0±0.27μm y 21.3±0.27μm; Contenido de Material Vegetal (CMV) de 0.08±0.01% y 0.11±0.01%; Contenido de Ceniza (CZ) de 1.21±0.04% y 1.30±0.04%; para las razas Corriedale y Merino Alemán, respectivamente. Se concluyó que la lana de ambas razas presenta características que las hacen aptas para la industria textil, destacando su alta limpieza y baja cantidad de material vegetal para los procesos de cardado, semipeinado y peinado.The objective was to evaluate and compare the characteristics of the wool of two sheep breeds, Corriedale and German Merino for commercial purposes. The study was carried out at SAIS Pachacutec (Junín) and a total of 140 fleece samples from the shearing of the Corriedale (n = 70) and German Merino (n = 70) breeds in February and December 2020 were used. The analysis of the samples was carried out in the Laboratorio de Fibras Textiles, Pieles y Cueros, Programa de Investigación y Proyección Social en Ovinos y Camélidos Americanos (POCA), Facultad de Zootecnia, Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM). The parameters that define the productive and technological characteristics of wool were studied, referring to: Dirty Fleece Weight (PVS) of 2.59±0.06kg and 2.25±0.06kg; Wick Length (LM) of 7.41±0.02cm and 6.35±0.18cm; Fiber Diameter (DF) of 24.0±0.27μm and 21.3±0.27μm; Vegetable Matter Content (CMV) of 0.08±0.01% and 0.11±0.01% and Ash Content (CZ) of 1.21±0.04% and 1.30±0.04% for the Corriedale and German Merino respectively. Respuesta agroeconómica de las F1 y F2 de dos híbridos de maíz (Zea mays L.) en la costa central

Maestría en Producción AgrícolaEl uso de semillas importadas de híbridos de maíz amarillo duro se vuelve cada vez más limitado para los pequeños y medianos agricultores, debido al incremento de los costos. En el Fundo de la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina y en el Fundo Don German en Cañete, se evaluaron dos híbridos simples con el objetivo de estimar las diferencias agronómicas y económicas entre sus F1 y F2, los años 2011- 2012. En ambas localidades, las características agronómicas evaluadas fueron superiores en las F1 para ambos híbridos. Todos los indicadores económicos evaluados mostraron que la siembra de los híbridos en La Molina y en Cañete, fue conveniente usar semilla F1. El rendimiento de grano y la rentabilidad de la F2 del híbrido Dekalb 7088 en La Molina se redujo en 29.16% y 37.33% respectivamente, con relación a los de su F1; mientras que en Cañete dichas reducciones fueron de 37.73% y 47.79% respectivamente. Para el caso del híbrido NK 254, las reducciones en rendimiento de grano y en rentabilidad de la F2 respecto a la F1 en Cañete, fueron de 31.24% y 34.29%, respectivamente. Los riesgos, el análisis de sensibilidad y las probabilidades de costos altos y rendimientos mínimos, fueron menores para las F1 en comparación con las F2The use of imported seeds of hard-yellow maize hybrids becomes increasingly limited for small and medium farmers, owing to increased costs. In the farm of the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina and in the Don German farm in Cañete, two simple hybrids were evaluated with the objective of estimate the agronomic and economic differences between their F1 and F2, the years 2011-2012. In both locations, the agronomic characteristics evaluated were higher in F1 for both hybrids. All the economic indicators evaluated showed that the sowing of the hybrids in La Molina and in Cañete, it was advisable to use F1 seed. The grain yield and profitability of the F2 of the Dekalb 7088 hybrid in La Molina was reduced by 29.16% and 37.33% respectively, relative to those of its F1; While in Cañete these reductions were 37.73% and 47.79% respectively. Transport of Brownian particles in a narrow, slowly varying serpentine channel
We study the transport of Brownian particles under a constant driving force and moving in channels that present a varying centerline but have constant aperture width (serpentine channels). We investigate two types of channels, solid channels, in which the particles are geometrically confined between solid walls and soft channels, in which the particles are confined by the potential energy landscape. We consider the limit of narrow, slowly varying channels, i.e., when the aperture and the variation in the position of the centerline are small compared to the length of a unit cell in the channel (wavelength). We use the method of asymptotic expansions to determine both the average velocity (or mobility) and the effective dispersion coefficient of the particles. We show that both solid and soft-channels have the same effects on the transport properties up to leading order correction. Including the next order correction, we obtain that the mobility in a solid-channel is smaller than that in a soft-channel. However, we discuss an alternative definition of the effective width of a soft channel that leads to equal mobilities up to second order terms. Interestingly, in both cases, the corrections to the mobility of the particles are independent of the Péclet number, and the Einstein-Smoluchowski relation is satisfied.Copyright 2015 AIP Publishing. Code choice and code-switching in Swiss-German internet relay chat rooms
In the German-speaking regions of Switzerland, dialect is spoken by all social groups in most communicative situations, Standard German being used only when prescribed. Swiss dialects rarely appeared in written form before the 1980s, apart from the genre of dialect literature. Due to the growing acceptance of informal writing styles in many European languages, dialect is increasingly employed for written personal communication, in particular in computer-mediated communication (CMC). In Swiss Internet Relay Chat (IRC) rooms, varieties of German are used side by side as all chatters have a command of both standard and dialectal varieties. Depending on the channel, the proportion of dialectal contributions can be as high as 90 percent. The choice of a particular variety depends on both individual preference and on the predominant variety used within a specific thread. In this paper I take a quantitative approach to language variation in IRC and demonstrate how such an approach can help embed qualitative research on code-switching in CMC
