Design principles in DDR: a case of developing a learning support tool for Malaysian online learners
Design and Development Research (DDR) focuses on designing and exploring the whole range of designed innovations: products, artefacts and models as well as less concrete aspects such as programmes, activity and curricula. Many researchers have designed, developed, and evaluated products in the field of instructional technology. Yet there is a scarcity of research literature that illustrates how a design is conceptualised or how the design principles are drawn to guide the design and the development of the Learning Support Tool for Malaysian Online Learners
The effect of mindfulness as the psychological intervention on perceived stress among breastfeeding mothers with Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) babies
Introduction: High cortisol level during pregnancy due to psychological stress could cause Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) towards baby which could affect the baby’s neurodevelopment and mental health. However, the epigenetic of the IUGR baby can be altered through breastfeeding and bonding between the mother and baby. Mindfulness intervention should be given to reduce the mother’s stress as mothers need to be supported for their children to be optimally breastfed. Hence, the objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness as a psychological intervention to reduce the level of perceived stress among breastfeeding mothers. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study investigated the effect of mindfulness on perceived stress with measurement in baseline, pre-test, and post-test on 23 pregnant women with diagnosis of late-onset IUGR babies at Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, SASMEC @IIUM. Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) was measured during antenatal period as the baseline and after confinement as the pre-test. Later, a counselling session with mindfulness therapy as the psychological intervention was conducted, followed by another two follow up sessions with intervals of two to three weeks. PSS was measured again after the third counselling session as the post-test. Data collected was then analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 27. Results: Based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA), there is no significant reduction in perceived stress following the psychological intervention with the mean score for pre-test (M=17.3, SD=4.9) and post-test (M=15.1, SD=5.8), (p<0.05) but still there is slight reduction as compared to the baseline (M=15.9, SD=4.6). Conclusion: Mindfulness can be considered as a coping technique to reduce the perceived stress among the breastfeeding mothers and consequently may improve the condition of the IUGR babies
Mindfulness-based intervention as a psychological intervention to support breastfeeding among mothers of babies with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR)
Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), also known as Fetal Growth Restriction (FGR) is defined as a condition in which the fetus fails to achieve its genetically predetermined growth potential size. It is also identified when the estimated fetal weight orabdominal circumference falls below the 10th percentile for gestational age, with birth weight of less than 2,500 grams. IUGR may arise from maternal, fetal, or placental factors, with maternal stress as one of the significant yet often overlooked contributor (1). Psychological stressors such as anxiety, depression, job overload and financial constraint can disrupt the intrauterine environment and negatively affect fetal neurodevelopment and growth. Every year, approximately 24% of newborns worldwide are diagnosedwith IUGR and 30 million infants are affected(2). Data obtained from the National Obstetric Registry (NOR) (2020), reported that in Malaysia, there were 994 deliveries of IUGR cases in 2016 and 2017, the total delivery number of IUGR cases increased to 1104 (3

A study of smart home: UUM student perspective
There are several issues related in housing development such as a continued rise in house prices became an issue for potential first time buyers and unsuccessful in the house industry that will contribute to homelessness for young generation and low-income wages. Therefore, a housing developer should identify the potential buyers’ criteria before designing the house to create uniqueness in housing industries.Innovation should be applied in developing innovative homes so that it will meet the affordable requirement for the potential buyers. Smart homes are a part of innovative home examples.A smart home is not just a home of the future, but rather an
integrated way to wire a home to a network that controls all of function at once. The application
of innovation in developing innovative homes will provide advantage to the developer’s business
performance. This research is designed to investigate the relationship between innovative homes with business performance which reflects identifying the critical variable of innovative homes, investigating the requirements of potential buyers and examining the relationships of innovative homes with business performance. Besides using a survey to gather customer perceptions, this research will also employ key personnel perspectives into the analysis. It is expected that the findings could contribute towards greater understanding in view of innovative homes and business performance. This research is also expected to provide some innovative ideas for managerial applications in the housing industry

Knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding wild animal trade and consumption in the prevention of zoonotic diseases among students at a public university
Zoonotic diseases are infections transmitted from animals to humans and pose growing public health concerns globally. The trade and consumption of wild animals are key risk factors contributing to the emergence of zoonotic diseases. The objective of this study is to determine the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices among undergraduate students at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuantan Campus, Pahang, regarding wild animal trade and consumption in the prevention of zoonotic diseases, as well as their association with sociodemographic characteristics. A cross-sectional study using convenience sampling was conducted among 196 undergraduate students from April to May 2022. An English version of the questionnaire was administered, and data were analysed using SPSS Version 20. The results showed that most students had high levels of knowledge (75.5%), attitudes (94.9%), and practices (96.0%) regarding the prevention of zoonotic diseases. Additionally, significant associations were observed between knowledge level and age, as well as year of study and courses (p-value<0.05). These findings suggest the effectiveness of current educational exposure and highlight the need for tailored awareness initiatives to other populations. Educational interventions, grounded in both scientific knowledge and Islamic values, can further enhance public awareness and promote responsible practices regarding wild animal trade and consumption
Hydrothermal pre-treatment of hospital food waste for efficient bio-methane generation
Municipal solid waste management (MWM) in Malaysia has become a challenging task in recent years due to the growth of population, industrialization and an increase in quantity and variation in the types of waste generated. Major solid waste generated in Malaysia is organic waste which includes mainly food waste from households, food processing facilities, markets, food and beverages industry and hospitals. Therefore, it is crucial to identify ways to manage food waste (FW) properly and improve the energy recovery efficiency. This paper is aimed to study the impact of pre-treatment on food waste from Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah (HPSF) as a method to decompose FW faster and to determine the potential of bio-methane generation. A compositional study showed that total solid waste generated was 2,301 kg with 67% waste from lunch followed by 31% from breakfast sessions daily. Hydrothermal pre-treatment was done using a Multipurpose Recycling Machine (MRM) at 1.6MPa for 15 minutes followed by anaerobic digestion with and without the inoculum addition. Un-treated FW with inoculum was used as control in this experiment. It was found out that at a controlled pH of 7, hydrothermal pre-treatment and addition of inoculum i.e. cow manure played an important role in anaerobic digestion process for enhancement of bio-methane production. It significantly reduced the lag phase by 4 days and produced biogas faster compared to nontreated FW and hence, increased the biogas volume up to 638.53 mL compared to 504.08 mL in non-treated FW at the same experimental conditions. Therefore, this study signified that hydrothermal pretreatment is an effective and a beneficial technique added to the waste through the generation of biogas energy
