North by East. Seafood wholesaler Rod Mitchell, owner of Browne Trading Company in Portland, has made hand-caught crabmeat part of haute cuisine, calling it peekytoe, and crabmeat has become popular among chefs from New York City to Napa Valley
Browne Trading in Portland, under Rod Mitchell of Peaks Island, has become a sea
Browne Trading in Portland, under Rod Mitchell of Peaks Island, has become a seafood empire since he and his wife, Cynde, bought it in 1990. He credits a boyhood spend fishing off Cundys Harbor with instilling in him a love for seafood, and he now specializes in selling the best seafood to be found in the world. From a start in two small rooms, Browne Trading now takes up an entire building. Mitchell\u27s insistence on quality has earned him the trust of well-known chefs across the country, and he has become one of the most important caviar wholesalers in America
North by East piece about Rod Mitchell, who built his multimillion-dollar Port
North by East piece about Rod Mitchell, who built his multimillion-dollar Portland business, Browne Trading Company, after a chance meeting in Camden fifteen years ago with Chef Jean-Louis Palladin, the owner of the four-star restaurant, Jean Louis, at the Watergate in Washington, D.C. Palladin happened to complain of the difficulty finding truly fresh, high-quality seafood in the United States and mentioned that he was flying in fish twice a week from Paris. Mitchell offered to ship fresh scallops and seafood directly to Washington. Palladin was so pleased with the result that he recommended Mitchell to other leading chefs. Today, Browne Trading Company and its fifteen employees ship fresh fish from the Portland waterfront to more than 200 clients, including such well-known chefs as Wolfgang Puck in California and Daniel Boulud in New York City
n-3 fatty acid deficiency alters recovery of the rod photoresponse in rhesus monkeys
© 2002 by The Association for Research in Vision and OphthalmologyPURPOSE. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is the major polyunsaturated fatty acid within rod outer segments. Varying the dietary content of DHA or its precursor, -linolenic acid (ALA), can alter retinal DHA levels. The purpose of the present study was to assess rod phototransduction and recovery in rhesus monkeys raised on diets with different DHA and ALA content. METHODS. Adult rhesus monkeys had consumed from birth a diet low in ALA (0.3%) and known to induce an 80% reduction in retinal DHA. They were compared with groups receiving 8% ALA or 0.6% DHA, both of which support normal retinal DHA levels. Rod recovery was assessed with a double-flash protocol using a-wave saturating test flashes. The recovery of rod-isolated ERG a-wave amplitude was analyzed to determine Tc, the time to initiation of rod recovery, and T50, the time from initiation to 50% of full recovery. Phototransduction was assessed from the fit of a quantitative model to the leading edges of rod-isolated ERG a-waves. ERG a- and b-wave amplitudes and implicit times were also measured. RESULTS. Rod recovery (T50) was delayed by 30% and ERG implicit times by 5% in monkeys in the low ALA group compared with the other groups. There was no significant effect of diet on ERG amplitudes, the time to initiation of rod recovery, or the parameters describing phototransduction. CONCLUSIONS. The results indicate that mechanisms involved in deactivation and rod recovery are selectively altered in monkeys raised on a low-ALA diet whereas, at the flash intensities used, the mechanisms underlying phototransduction remain unaffected.Brett G. A rod-linear cascade model for emulating rotor-stator interaction noise in turbofans: A numerical study
This manuscript presents a rod-linear cascade model for emulating rotor-stator interaction noise. The model is intended as a test platform for studying noise mitigation techniques for a turbofan fan stage, while it also extends the classical rod-airfoil configuration by considering a row of blades based on realistic geometrical details. The rod-linear cascade model consists of a rod positioned upstream of a 7-blade linear cascade, such that the rod wake impinges onto the central blade. The rod is scaled to obtain a fundamental shedding frequency equal to the first blade passing frequency of the NASA-Glenn Source Diagnostics Test (SDT)fan stage at approach condition. The cascade blade profile is also based on the OGV of the SDT sampled at 90% of the radial span. Subsequently, numerical simulations are performed using lattice-Boltzmann Method on a computational setup comprised of a contraction and a test section enclosing the rod-linear cascade model. The integral length scales of the rod wake and the mean loading of the central blade have been found to be in good agreement with the trends observed in the SDT fan stage. The primary noise sources are localized at the central blade leading edge, although noise propagation to the far-field is influenced by additional diffraction by the other blades. Furthermore, the acoustic-blade row interaction causes intense pressure fluctuation within the inter-blade channels, including in those that are not directly affected by the rod wake.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Wind Energ

0854: Isaac H. Mitchell Biographical Sketch Collection
This collection consists of the research done by Scott Lemley and Rod Pell on Isaac Mitchell’s life and genealogy, including his descendants, in order for Mitchell to be memorialized by the Huntington Police Department in 2013. The bulk of the collection consists of printed copies of email correspondence between Lemley and Bob Mitchell and Michelle Shypkoski (both descendants of Isaac Mitchell), printed genealogies, and two copies of the memoirs of William Clare Mitchell, a descendant who moved to Idaho. Also included are the HPD Memorial Application, copied photographs of Isaac Mitchell’s grave and other family members, copied and transcribed newspaper articles, and a CD and thumb drive which presumably contain similar information on Isaac Mitchell and his descendants. The collection arrived as one large stack of paper, almost entirely photocopied, and so it was divided into similar categories. The pages of correspondence are mostly chains of emails, and so repeats are inevitable. As a new email may have been added, these chains have all been kept. The CD and thumb drive were not examined at the time of processing. Some information gathered on the Mitchell Family from 2013 comes from a Law Enforcement Report and contains social security numbers, and as such is restricted (Folder 8)
