No full textNeste artigo, discuto o uso do círculo de narrativas (Roadside Theatre, 1999) denominado como um modelo de repetição desconstruída para o ativismo comunitário, capaz de conectar os problemas pessoais dos alunos com as questões sociais/comunitárias. Iniciei este projeto com um curso síncrono online de Redação de Textos para alunos de graduação. Ao final do semestre, os alunos participaram dinamicamente do ativismo comunitário por meio da exploração de questões socio-pessoais, o que levou a diversas iniciativas empreendidas posteriormente pelo Grêmio Estudantil da universidade. Este projeto foi conduzido para testar o Modelo de Repetição Desconstruída desenvolvido como uma ferramenta eficaz de ativismo social e construção comunitária. Este relatório do projeto defende o sucesso e a eficácia do modelo para o ativismo social no meio acadêmico, além de abordar suas limitações e futuras áreas de pesquisa
‘Shock in War-Gothic’: Exploring War Shock and Trauma in Pat Barker’s Another World
Get PDFThis article is written to explore the manifestation of after-war shock and trauma in the lives of individuals in the gothic setting. The novel Another World by Pat Barker is dealt with through textual analysis in order to see the gothic novel in a new light and bring forth new perspective. The paper deals with the life of the grandfather, Geordie, the impact of the horrors of war, the life of trenches, the massacre, bloodshed, butchery and the inhumanity practised and suffered by every soldier there, on him and the people surrounding him. It reintegrates the past into present, forming a complex of psychological and visceral into the contemporary resonance. Two poems by Wilfred Owen and Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf are used as secondary texts, and the methodology of textual analysis along with analytical framework of psychoanalysis has been used. This paper aims at opening new vistas for the students of literature by inter-relating Gothic and War literature and intends to fill the research gap. This Is Theatre: Deconstructed Repetition and Theatre-in-Education during Covid-19
Get PDFThis project report is a practical application of deconstructed repetition model, I devised by merging Augusto Boal and Baz Kershaw, in an undergraduate Composition Writing class in Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, U.S. As the facilitator Deconstructed repetition means cost-effective repetition of personal and local stories for introspection in order to engage the community members, address the oppression, and celebrate the local culture. The four stipulations of the models are: avoiding the Western canon (or hegemonic voice), making the audience(s) see direct and indirect oppression, circumventing commodification while maintaining audience interest, and celebrating local culture instead of downright criticizing it. For this specific project I set two project goals i.e. exploring personal truth and undergoing ideational transaction. I define ideational transaction as participants self-teaching themselves about the issue, exploring their subjective experiences with objective angles, and finding solutions to their issues. Activist practitioners provide multiple deconstructed repetition techniques among which I selected Story Circle to implement the model. I taught my class the Composition Writing curriculum and as the joker I created an imaginary space for them to deconstruct their stories. In the fifteen-week-long Spring 2021 semester, the students participated in five story circles i.e. “Zoom/In Person Class Issues, Toxic Household, Effect of Social Media, Dealing with Loss,” and “Body Insecurity.” I measured successful ideational transaction through their two main assignments, i.e. “Observation Logbook” and “Final Essay.” The spect-actors explored their truth via analyzing their own stories through a series of assignments, self-learning about the same issue in society, and going through ideational transaction where they came up with suggestions to solve the issue in their Louisiana State University (LSU) community

No full textThis dissertation titled Theatre, Activism, and Pakistan is an intervention for contemporary activist theatre in Pakistan. The dissertation proposes a deconstructed repetition model. The model recommends deconstructing rituals, routines, stories, narratives upon repetition via theatre in order to address local issues and celebrate local culture. This dissertation’s theoretical framework is devised by merging Baz Kershaw’s triad of cultural history, pre-existing metanarrative, and repetition with Augusto Boal’s techniques of spect-acting. The first chapter explores Pakistani theatre and cultural history to figure out stipulations for activist theatre survival in Pakistan. The devised activist model puts forth the following four stipulations in order to then reach the set goals: avoiding the hegemonic voice, making spect-actors see oppression, circumventing commodification without taking element of interest out, and celebrating local culture. The second chapter examines two Pakistani activist plays, Barri (Acquittal) and We shall Resist, and the underlying fundamentalist religious metanarrative to figure out the activist model that can address this unique situation of indirect oppression (while meeting the aforementioned four criteria). The deconstructed repetition model, that deconstructs culture and its metanarratives upon repetition, is an appropriate fit for theatre activism in Pakistan instead of seeking violent revolution, passive subversion, or open-ended activism. After figuring out the stipulations and the suitable model for implementation of those stipulations for social activism in Pakistan, the third chapter studies Augusto Boal and relevant activist theatre practitioners for techniques of the model implementation. The third chapter narrows down the focus on the technique of Story Circle. The final chapter is a report of the project undertaken to test the model. The project report proves the efficacy of the deconstructed repetition model. The conclusion then wraps up the discussion with possible future directions for the model implementation in Pakistan
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
