Commercialization of food plants in São Gabriel da Cachoeira-Amazonas
The Upper Rio Negro region is characterized by high concentration of indigenous ethnic groups. In one of the municipalities of the Alto Rio Negro, called São Gabriel da Cachoeira, there is a municipal headquarters, in which there are several establishments that commercialize food plants cultivated and/or extracted by local indigenous people, with great biological and cultural diversity, practically not explored by science. In this way, this work had the objective of researching the diversity of food plants commercialized in the city's urban center, in free fair, small, medium and large markets. A total of 94 species of food plants belonging to 37 botanical families were identified, the most cited being the family Solanaceae and Arecaceae. Most of the plants marketed in the municipality are fruits, which in turn are consumed mainly in natura. At the fair, there is a predominance of the commercialization of local products, which are marketed by both farmers / collectors and retailers. The center of probable origin of most plants marketed at the fair is South America. The markets mainly market plants from other locations. Market traders are all resellers. The likely center of origin of species traded markets is mainly to Asia. In the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira-AM, Alto Rio Negro there are several short networks of local commerce, generating and adding value to the local culture. As well, there are long distribution networks that can be a counterweight to the food security of the indigenous peoples of the Upper Rio Negro.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES
Floristic composition of domestic units on the Brazil-Paraguay border: an ethnoecological approach
Human cultures have particular and differentiated ways of perceiving, identifying, classifying and, above all, interacting with the natural environment. Ethnobiology, a sub-area of Ethnoscience is the basis of Ethnobotany and Ethnoecology, which present studies on the knowledge of a cultural group on botany and ecology, therefore, on human interactions with the natural environment. The knowledge obtained / generated constitutes an important basis in the definition of strategies that allow the biological and cultural conservation. These studies are also relevant to know the mechanisms used by human populations in their interaction with the environment. Based on these principles, the present study aimed to ethnoecologically record the relationship of the human being with the vegetal composition of the domestic unit, considering cultural, social, biological and ecological aspects. In this way, it is intended to contribute to the conservation of ethno-species diversity in the Brazil-Paraguay border region, in the municipality of Ponta Porã, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, during 2016 and 2017. For this purpose, it was observed which plants are available and which are recognized as resources, and how these are used. Data collection procedures involved methods associated with Anthropology and Classical Botany, both suitable for ethnoecological studies. Sixty interviews were conducted with the representatives of each household in the 15 selected city areas. These participants stated that they were responsible for the whole care or for parts of the household. According to the conception of the residents the definition of domestic unit is directly related to the space in which activities related to family leisure are developed, being cited by the interviewees as the place reserved to take tereré - a typical drink - to spend time, where the children play, practice various activities. It is also used for the cultivation of vegetables obtained through the purchase and exchange of seedlings, thus evidencing the contribution of the homegardens to the relations of neighbors and relatives. In this study, the plant component of the 60 participating urban households, known and used by residents, corresponds to 219 species, 82 botanical families, 1560 individuals. Participants know and cultivate vegetables in domestic units belonging to five categories of use: food, medicinal, shading, mystical / religious and ornamental. Of all the species mentioned, 17 were considered by the interviewees to be toxic. These plants are thus considered toxic, because they cause some adverse effect to the organism when in contact or ingestion, and can even lead to death, being the symptoms quite variable from one individual to another. The studied domestic units are organized according to their size and structure and have different potentials, as they also fulfill different specific functions, according to the purposes and characteristics of each inhabitant. In the domestic units were found 74 native species and among these, eleven are endemic to Brazil. Nine species included in the List of Species of the Brazilian Flora Threatened of Extinction were also found. Such information ensures that households contribute to the conservation of biodiversity. In general, we can affirm that ethnobotanical studies in domestic units can contribute to better understand the cultural importance of certain multiple-use species of plants and reaffirm that these environments are capable of reconciling biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources and quality of life of the residents
Influence of different spawn conditions on the production of pleurotus ostreatus (jacq.) P. Kumm. and different concentrations of the residue of the mushroom production in the quality of lettuce (lactuca sativa L.)
Mushrooms are a very viable alternative in the transformation of lignocellulolytic materials into useful products, resulting in the generation of food rich in proteins, fibers, minerals, vitamins, low in lipids and carbohydrates. For the production of the mushroom it is necessary to obtain the inoculum, which may be made from a fragment or pseudotecido taken from the colonus thereof. For fungicide the laboratory phase is as important as the phase in the field. Mushroom cultivation generates a large amount of spent mushroom compost (SMC). The present work aimed to evaluate the influence of the inoculum maturity on the productivity of the Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom using distinct maturation times. After the fungus was cultivated the exhausted substrate was tested in the production of lettuce seedlings, which were taken to field to evaluate productivity and biochemical analysis. For the evaluation of the Spawn, seven bags of 2 kg of inoculated substrate were used every three days, where the first inoculation occurred on the 13th day of mycelial run and the last on the 25th day. Number of bunches, number of mushrooms, weight of bunches, average mass of bunches and mushrooms were evaluated as a parameter for evaluation of productivity. The highest values of productivity were obtained by the 2nd and 3rd inoculation with 19.0 and 19.7%, with 16 and 19 days of seed maturation. It is concluded that the time of maturation of the inoculum influences the yield of the mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus, showing that the production of the inoculum is a primordial phase to reach high yields. Then, the residue of the Pleurotus ostreatus production was used for the cultivation of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) seedlings at doses of depleted compound (50%, 30% and 10%) mixed with the commercial substrate Carolina soil®. For comparison, a control with 100% commercial substrate was used. Seed productivity parameters were evaluated, such as: shoot length, root length, leaf number, fresh and dry shoot mass, and dry and fresh root mass. The physical and chemical characteristics of the substrate were also evaluated. The depleted substrate showed an increase in pH and electrical conductivity when increasing doses of this substrate were used, damaging fresh dry shoot mass and root length. For low doses of mushroom residue mixed to the commercial substrate there was no statistical difference between the evaluated parameters. The spent mushroom compound presented viable for the production of lettuce seedlings in the proportion of 10% mixed with Carolina soil® compound. At high doses of 30 and 50% depleted their values were statistically lower than the control. Physical analyzes of the depleted substrate showed positive results regarding the water retention parameter. For the chemical analysis, the substrate has a high amount of macro and micronutrients, demonstrating a potential for use in plants, but in need of some adjustments with respect to pH and electrical conductivity (C.E.). The production and biochemical changes of the seedlings were evaluated after being taken to the field. The lettuce cultivation was carried out at the San Manuel Experimental Farm, the treatments used were four different treatments of mushroom residue (50%, 30%, 10% and 100% commercial soil substrate Carolina soil) with six replicates and sixteen plants per plot. Agronomic physical parameters (plant diameter, plant height, leaf number, fresh leaf weight, root length, fresh root weight, root dry weight and leaves) and biochemical parameters (phenolic compounds and enzymatic antioxidant activity and not enzymatic). The lettuces produced in substrate with higher amount of mushroom residue had lower values of physical parameters evaluated (182.28 g) than plants grown in commercial substrate (255.03 g). For the enzymatic evaluation for both the peroxidase enzyme and polyphenoloxidase, there was higher activity of the same in the plants produced with higher amount of mushroom residue, this same pattern was maintained for phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. In conclusion, the use of mushroom residue activates the induction of the production of protective enzymes and secondary metabolites in the plant, with a potential inducer of resistance.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)demanda socia
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Development of agroecological farming system and organization of the production chain of Conobea scoparioides (Cham. & Schltdl.) Benth., in communities of Belém, Amazonia Paraense
The Amazon is a vast world in the field of aromas, and the forest peoples, because of their isolation, seek natural alternatives. Pataqueira Conobea scoparioides (Cham. & Schltdl.) Benth., Family Plantaginaceae Juss, is one of these plants. The essential oil of pataqueira has good prospects in the industry of fragrances, however, its economic exploitation is not yet a reality due to its difficulty of cultivation. Because they are native species with traditional use by communities, such propagation and production systems, based on the use of synthetic chemical inputs, demand for high investments and great technical complexity, are scarcely accessible to groups and farmers who culturally relate to this species, as well as not being ecological systems of production. The objective of the present study is to develop a protocol for the cultivation of pataqueira (Conobea scoparioides (Cham. & Schltdl.) Benth. Together with a group of traditional farmers from communities around Belém (PA) commercial production of this plant, for the production and commercialization of the cosmetics industry. To carry out the studies and development of the system of cultivation of the pataqueira, two rural communities were chosen, the groups were already cultivating and collecting other aromatic species. The methodology used was 'action research', which enables the collection and compilation of information and knowledge of the native communities, as well as the collective construction of a plant cultivation protocol based on the relationship between researchers and local producers, who have direct relationship with the species in question. Initially was carried out a historic research of the production, followed by field visits to the natural environment of the plant, experimental production, consolidation of results, preparation of the handbook of good cultivation practices and, finally, pilot cultivation based on the handbook. The results show that the production process through the cuttings placed directly in the beds presented great potential, especially when using apical parts of the plant, using sombrite in the first 15 days, to protect the strong sun, high temperatures and rains, to the detriment of raised beds. Notably, the areas richest in organic matter, as well as the areas that received higher doses of fertilization, were also the most productive. In addition, in the evaluation of technicians as well as of the farmers, the production in raised beds was more efficient. It was also verified that the pataqueira is a species that responds well to the cultural treatments, the productivity was greater the more intense the fertilization, weeding, entrance and exit of sombrite, additional irrigation and harvest at the time of full bloom. In the proposed system, the plant cycle increased from 6 to 3 months, its essential oil yield increased by 60%, all practices and techniques used are low cost, low complexity, accessible and replicable by the farmers themselves, since they were built and defined by the communities in interaction with the technicians
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Ethnobotany of food plants used by the Shanenawa people of Feijó municipality, Acre
Indigenous people use several plants in their cultural and food dynamics, however, there is little information about which species are used as food by these communities. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate which species are used in the food of the Shanenawa people, from the village Shane Kaya, municipality of Feijó – Acre, and how these plants are cultivated and managed. For the data obtainment, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the villagers, field diaries were used to record events during the research and guided tours to the occurrence sites of the plant species. The species were collected and botanically identified. In total, 71 species were identified, divided into 28 botanical families, being the Arecaceae family the most predominant in the number of species. The food species were distributed among four different locations, forest, backyard, roça, and roçado. Most of the food species are cultivated in the backyards located around the houses, however, there are places intended only for the cultivation of roçado (banana, maize, and peanut) and roça (cassava) species, demonstrating the importance of these species in the diet of these people. The species belonging to the forest environment were classified according to the environment subtype: dryland, igapó forest, and igarapé margin. The community has shown significant knowledge of the cultivated and wild food species, which are consumed and prepared in different ways. The development of ethnobotanical studies with indigenous communities can help in the valorization and conservation of the associated traditional knowledge and make part of the Brazilian biodiversity recognized.Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)440236/2016-
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
