Susan Susie Miller Interview, May 9, 2019
Susan “Susie” Miller recalls her experiences working with the Hmong community in Missoula to document their history and culture through the oral history project “Hmong Voices in Montana” and an art exhibit at the Missoula Art Museum displayed from 1992 to 1993. She describes her collaboration with Ia Vang, Bounthavy “Vee” Kiatoukaysy, Tou Yang, and the rest of the Hmong community and how developing these friendships led to a deeper sense of appreciation for Hmong culture. Miller remembers the joys of helping to put together the art exhibit and talks about the importance of consulting with the Hmong elders and shaman about the topics that could be included in the project. Miller stresses the importance of the Hmong involvement in the project, speaking for themselves and deciding what parts of their culture to share and how.https://scholarworks.umt.edu/mtcommunities_oralhistory/1035/thumbnail.jp
