Galileo a leibniz, così presenti sui suoi scaffali – riflessa e deformata
nella propria opera narrativa, che ha ancora molto da rivelare
ai lettori e agli studiosi"
From print to digital: A web edition of Giacomo Leopardi’s Idilli
Although most would agree that the future of the scholarly edition lies in the digital
medium, it is the print scholarly edition that is still more often cited and read. The
production of digital scholarly editions (DSEs) is still seen as an experimental field whose
methodology has not yet settled to the extent that a digital editing project can be
approached with the same confidence as the making of a print edition. This article
describes an experimental conversion of a print scholarly edition—Giacomo
Leopardi’s Idilli by Paola Italia (2008)—into a DSE. This posed a challenge due to the
the complexity of its internal evidence, but was also relatively short and suitable for an
experimental edition. Our objective was to assimilate into a web-based DSE all the information contained in the text and apparatus of the print edition. We also sought to
discover whether the making of a DSE today that could fully utilize the affordances of the
web, would necessarily place a significant technical load on editors who are more accustomed to solving textual problems. We review briefly a number of generic tools for
making DSEs and describe two attempts at making our own DSE of Leopardi’s Idilli: a
wiki edition whose primary purpose was pedagogical and a DSE based on the software
used to make the Charles Harpur Critical Archive (Eggert, 2019, Charles Harpur Critical
Archive. http://charles-harpur.org). We compare these experiences and draw conclusions about the prospects of making DSEs today
A heuristic approach to author name disambiguation in bibliometrics databases for large-scale research assessments
National exercises for the evaluation of research activity by universities are becoming regular practice in ever more countries. These exercises have mainly been conducted through the application of peer-review methods. Bibliometrics has not been able to offer a valid large-scale alternative because of almost overwhelming difficulties in identifying the true author of each publication. We will address this problem by presenting a heuristic approach to author name disambiguation in bibliometric datasets for large-scale research assessments. The application proposed concerns the Italian university system, comprising 80 universities and a research staff of over 60,000 scientists. The key advantage of the proposed approach is the ease of implementation. The algorithms are of practical application and have considerably better scalability and expandability properties than state-of-the-art unsupervised approaches. Moreover, the performance in terms of precision and recall, which can be further improved, seems thoroughly adequate for the typical needs of large-scale bibliometric research assessments

Heat-unstable protein removal by different bentonite labels on white wines
The relationship between heat-unstable wine proteins and bentonite fining is still a matter of debate. Some authors have suggested that bentonite removes protein according to matrix parameters, but others have described it as selective for some protein classes. The aim of our work was to characterize the fining effects of five different types of activated sodium bentonite on two international white wines (Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc). The physical properties of the bentonite samples and the general wine
characteristics were determined, and protein removal was evaluated with gradient SDS-PAGEs, protein quantification and subsequent band identification by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. For the Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc tested in the study, fining with specific bentonite labels to remove select residual proteins, some of which are potential allergens, was very promising. The removal of a single protein by bentonite affected the wine’s thermal stability
Effect of pH on the protein profile and heat stability of an Italian white wine.
A large amount of research is currently being conducted on wine pH because of its effect on the formation of turbidity in unfined white wines. The haze-forming tendency and the protein profile of an Italian white wine (Erbaluce di Caluso D.O.C.G.), as affected by pH ranging from 3.00 to 3.60, a common pH range in wine, were analysed. The results indicated increased heat stability of the wine at lower pH, which was revealed by a lack of haze formation even above 70 °C. The pH increase was accompanied by a progressive shift in the haze formation temperature from 50–60 °C to 70–80 °C. The electrophoretic protein pattern of the wine was characterised,
and proteins derived fromboth yeast and grape tissueswere identified. The statistical analysis of band intensities
revealed that the solubility of five yeast and grape protein bands was modified by the pH shift. Most of the proteins involved were determined to be glycosylated, a feature that has been speculated to have an influence on the
differential solubility of wine proteins in response to pH
Superiumentarius (Suet. Claud. 2,2). L’imperatore Claudio autore di epigrammi?
According to Suet., Claud. 2, 2 in a "libellus" Claudius complained about his master who had been a "superiumentarius". This ironic hyperbole, which refers to the brutal use of whip, seems an allusion to Horace's "plagosus Orbilius", and so suggests the possibility that Claudius'words were part of an epigram. Starting from some recognizable jambic sequences, the author of this article attempts to reconstruct it
