Tra grammatica e discorso: esiti pragmatici di dum e tum in latino

    No full text
Latin has a rich temporal subordination system, which is interesting with regards to both verb strategies and conjunctions. Reference grammars and some specific studies mainly discuss morphosyntactic issues about the verb (tense and mood) of temporal subordinates, while temporal items (adverbs or conjunctions) are less considered. This paper deals with some of these items (dum, tum, and related forms), in order to cast further light their usage between syntax and pragmatics and their paths of diachronic development

A New Educational Model for Criminality Prevention

    No full text
Solon said that, in order to be free, a citizen had to study; education was the ground of democracy and in Athens there was no illiterate citizen. The education was both of the body as well as of the soul in a natural continuity... Plato was even aware that in all that there was, there was a core of “dissension” (entropie) that sooner or later led to the fall. He tried to set a fortress model that would minimize the effects of this core of destruction. In the dialogue entitled „Republica”, he pointed out that it was in the power of man to minimize the evil and to build a harmonious fortress that would prevent the destruction. The idea of harmony, which is to be found also in music and mathematics, is extended also to the relations between people.

Marche linguistiche della soggettività nelle lettere private in latino

    No full text
This study focuses on the linguistic means that speakers (or rather writers) employed to express their subjectivity in a Latin epistolary corpus (II A.D.). Private letters, and particularly the Tiberianus archive which is the focus of this analysis, constitute a privileged genre to undertake an analysis of linguistic elements that express subjectivity. Letters convey intimate emotional themes, personal points of view on events, feelings and concerns. Such wide range of topics is expressed through pragmatic functions that are encoded on the linguistic level by markers of subjectivity, i.e. linguistic elements that the writer employs to construct, negotiate, modulate, redefine and convey his own identity, opinions, relations with the interlocutor, together with his personal attitude towards the message. Moving from the analysis of the letters contained in the corpus Tiberianus, this study aims at defining different classes of markers of subjectivity, taking into consideration pragmaticalised units as the attention getter scis ‘you know’, hedges as vide si potes ‘see if you can’, or courtesy markers as rogo ‘I pray’. As the analysis of the repertoire of forms identified will show, the identity of the speaker is established or negotiated through a series of strategies that go beyond the use of referential linguistic expressions, projecting this identity at the level of organization of discourse in key communicative and complex interactional dynamics

Stability constants of the weak⁎ fixed point property for the space l1

    No full text
The main aim of the paper is to study some quantitative aspects of the stability of the weak⁎ fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings in l1 (shortly, w⁎-fpp). We focus on two complementary approaches to this topic. First, given a predual X of l1 such that the σ(l1,X)-fpp holds, we precisely establish how far, with respect to the Banach–Mazur distance, we can move from X without losing the w⁎-fpp. The interesting point to note here is that our estimate depends only on the smallest radius of the ball in l1 containing all σ(l1,X)-cluster points of the extreme points of the unit ball. Second, we pass to consider the stability of the w⁎-fpp in the restricted framework of preduals of l1. Namely, we show that every predual X of l1 with a distance from c0 strictly less than 3, induces a weak⁎ topology on l1 such that the σ(l1,X)-fpp holds

ISBN 978-9975-75-968-7.The need of communication has never been greater in our today lives. In this study we are trying to reveal if potential customers they think is reliable and they take into consideration of purchasing products that are promoted on social media networks. Social media networks have grown in power an influence over the last years as never before, reaching over 3.4 billion unique users worldwide. They can be consider a truly catalyst of communication. The study represents a desk research regarding how social media networks influence the process of purchasing products and services. JEL:M31, M37

The pragmaticalization of verbs of movement and exchange in Latin and Italian: paths of development from lexicon to pragmatics

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to provide some insight into the theoretical framework of pragmaticalization by considering functional markers derived from imperative forms of verbs of movement and exchange in Latin and Italian. Although these forms have frequently been described in reference grammars as interjections, through a corpus based study we show that, unlike interjections such as wow and um, the lexical semantics of the source verbs played a key role in triggering metaphorical processes of functional extensions. We also aim to refine and constrain the broad label of pragmaticalization by distinguishing between functionally neighboring, but different, pathways of development that can be oriented toward social cohesion and the expression of the speaker’s stance (pragmatic markers) or discourse cohesion (discourse markers)

Mircea Popescu was a professor, literary critic and journalist who lived almost all his life in exile, in Italy, where he promoted the Romanian culture permanently. He has a very rich correspondence with Ștefan Baciu, N.P. Comnen, Neagu Djuvara, Mircea Eliade, Vintilă Horia, Virgil Ierunca, Petru Iroaie and Alexandrina Mititelu. Due to his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Simona Coleş-Popescu, we’ll include some unpublished letters sent by his friends and Romanian writers in a book dedicated to Mircea Popescu’s literary activity. In this article we publish two of them
