    Sustainable Investing - A no-brainer

    No full text
Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on tutkia johtaako sijoitusrahaston korkea vastuullisuus parempaan tuottoon. This thesis is about sustainable investing with mutual funds from household and private investor’s perspective. According to previous studies, sustainable investing could offer better than average returns for investor. The goal for the thesis is to find out if high sustainability leads to higher returns. In addition, the thesis studies how costs and activity behave in relation to sustainability. The theory consists of the background information and history of investing, sustainability and sustainable investing. The theory is collected from literature, internet sources and previous studies. The research data is collected from Morningstar and bank and brokerage websites and annual, semi-annual or monthly fund reviews. The thesis compares returns, costs and activity of the mutual funds by dividing them by the Morningstar Sustainability Rating (MSR) and into MSR classes. Additionally, the thesis studies sustainability and other attributes of sustainable mutual funds. The thesis is done without work-life assignment to ensure its independence and transparency. However, sustainability specialists from the financial sector comment on the research and its conclusions

Vitamin D Status and Behavioral Impulsivity in Anorexia Nervosa: Insights from a Longitudinal Study

    No full text
: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe psychiatric disorder marked by extreme weight control behaviors and significant impacts on physical and psychosocial health. This study explores the relationship between vitamin D (Vit-D) levels and impulsivity in women with AN. Forty-six cisgender White women participants were assessed upon admission and before discharge from a specialized eating disorder treatment center, with an average duration of 2.5 ± 0.10 months. Methods included self-reported questionnaires and behavioral tasks to measure impulsivity, alongside serum Vit-D levels. Our results showed significant improvements in Vit-D levels and certain impulsivity measures, such as faster reaction times and fewer errors on the go/no-go task, correlating with higher Vit-D levels. However, no significant correlations were found between Vit-D levels and self-reported impulsivity. These findings suggest that adequate Vit-D levels may enhance cognitive functions related to impulse control in AN. Given this study's limitations, including its exclusive focus on women and small sample size, future research should involve larger, more diverse populations and randomized clinical trials to better understand the causal relationships and therapeutic potential of Vit-D in managing AN-related impulsivity

Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) matrilines in the Mediterranean: further evidence of genetic diversity and connectivity

We re-sequenced 815 bp of the mtDNA of loggerhead turtles from a population nesting in Calabria (southern Italy), which was found recently. Non-invasive sampling was applied and information on deposition date and place was used to avoid possible resampling of nesting females. Among 38 nests laid by independent females, we found the common haplotype CC-A2.1 (57.9%) and two other haplotypes which have never been described in Mediterranean nesting grounds, CC-A20.1 (36.8%) and CC-A31.1 (5.3%). Calabria harbors the highest intra-population diversity among 11 Mediterranean nesting populations. Our findings narrow the gap between haplotypes recorded in feeding grounds and those found in nesting grounds. Analyses of population structure show a strong maternal isolation, with Calabria and east Turkey displaying far more diversity than expected considering their census size. These observations suggest that recurrent female founder effects from sources yet to be identified in the Atlantic or in the Mediterranean may have shaped the pattern of mtDNA diversity in this latter basin. Our results provide evidence that the Ionian Calabrian sites should be protected because of the high diversity found there

Digitalization based innovation - A Case Study Framework

    No full text
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been leading innovation processes, where the upsurge of digital technology has overpowering implications on competitive positioning, ̄rm's value chains and overall business model. Value creation facilitated by emerging digital technologies alters costs, as well as process performance. Due to ̄eld research and in-depth interviews with owners and managers of SMEs in North-East Italy area, we combine and analyze evidence of the contingent challenges companies face while trying to redesign their business model. Our results point out that being able to accumulate and put into action external ideas can be vital in supplementing internal knowledge base and therefore crucial in escaping technological lock-ins; thus, imposing efforts toward digital transformation offers favorable outcomes
