Near-infrared H2 and continuum survey of extended green objects. II. Complete census for the northern Galactic plane
We discuss 94 Extended Green Objects (EGOs) in the northern Galactic plane cataloged by Cyganowski et al., based on near-infrared narrow H2 (2.122 μm) and continuum observations from the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. This data set is three times larger than the one in our previous study and is unbiased by preselection. As discussed in the previous paper, the morphologies of the 4.5 μm emission generally resemble those of the near-infrared continuum, but are different from those of the H2 emission. Of our sample, only 28% of EGOs with H2 emission show similar morphologies between 4.5 μm and H2 emission. These results suggest that the 4.5 μm emission mainly comes from scattered continuum from the embedded young stellar objects, and partially from H2 emission. About half of EGOs are associated with H2 outflows, if the H 2 outflow incompleteness is considered. The H2 outflow detection rate for EGOs with K-band detections (61%) is significantly higher than for those without K-band detections (36%). This difference may be due to the fact that both H2 and K-band emissions are associated with outflows, i.e., H2 emission and K-band continuum are associated with shocks and outflow cavities, respectively. We also compared the correlation between the H2 outflows and Class I 44 GHz methanol masers from the literature. The methanol masers can be located upstream or downstream of the H2 outflows and some bright H2 spots or outflows are not associated with methanol masers, suggesting that methanol masers and H 2 emission trace different excitation conditions. © 2013. <Notes>Designing a Professional Development Retreat Program for Teachers: --Aiming to Enhance Wellbeing in School Settings in Japan--
This study reports on the development and implementation of a retreat program aimed at enhancing teacher professionalism and wellbeing in Japan. In response to the Central Education Council's report and the 4th Basic Plan for the Promotion of Education, which emphasizes the importance of ensuring teacher wellbeing, there is a growing need for effective teacher training programs. As part of a project under the Ministry of Education's “Teacher Training Advanced Model Development Project, ” the author proposed a blended learning approach and developed a retreat program within this framework. The program development was focused on improving teacher wellbeing and acquiring knowledge and skills in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). After examining various U.S. approaches, the program was ultimately built upon the Engaged Teaching approach. This approach is characterized by its foundation in effective SEL program analysis and its wealth of activities designed for both teachers and students. The program was implemented in two formats: one-day retreat in Japan and three-days retreat in the US. Participants reported high satisfaction levels and perceived improvements in their professional development. These results suggest that the retreat program which was developed was effective in enhancing both teacher professionalism and wellbeing. This research offers valuable implications for developing teacher training programs tailored to the Japanese educational context

The effect of diagnostic and interactive uses of management control systems and managerial coaching on reflection in teams
Purpose - The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of managerial coaching, as well as interactive and diagnostic uses of management control systems (MCS), on reflection and critical reflection, which are important for teamlearning.
Design/methodology/approach - Data were collected using a questionnaire survey. Hierarchical regression analyses were performed to test hypotheses using data from 235 employees in 50 teams from a Japanese automotive supplier.
Findings - The results indicated that: MCS used interactively have a positive influence on critical reflection in teams; MCS used diagnostically have no significant effect on reflection or critical reflection in teams; and managerial coaching has a positive influence on team reflection.
Research limitations/implications - These findings suggest that the interactive use of MCS should be combined with managerial coaching in promoting reflection and critical reflection within teams. Because this study used data from employees of a Japanese automotive supplier, the results may have been influenced by the Japanese management style.
Practical implications - Organizations need to implement interactive MCS at the team level, while coaching programs should be provided for managers to enhance team learning.
Originality/value - This study extends the existing literature by examining the effect of MCS at the team level, and identifying that managerial coaching plays a complementary role, supporting the interactive use of MCS in promoting reflection within a team
Enhanced exoplanet biosignature detection from an interferometer addition to low resolution spectrographs
The physics of molecular vibration causes absorption spectra of atmospheric molecules to be a group of approximately periodic fine lines. This is fortuitous for detecting exoplanet biosignificant molecules, since it approximately matches the periodic sinusoidal transmission of an interferometer. The series addition of a 0.6 cm interferometer with a dispersive spectrograph creates moire patterns. These enhance detection by several orders of magnitude for initially low resolution spectrographs. We simulate the Gemini Planet Imager integral field spectrograph observing a telluric spectrum of native resolutions 40 and 70 for 1.65 and 2 micron bands– too low to resolve the fine lines. The interferometer addition increases the detectability of the molecular signal, relative to photon noise, to a level similar to a R=4400 (at 1.65 micron) or R=3900 (at 2 micron) spectrograph.First author draf

Ejection Patterns in the DG Tau Jet over the Last 40 yr: Insights into Mass Accretion Variability
We aim to clarify the link between mass accretion and ejection by analyzing DG Tau’s jet observations from optical and near-infrared data spanning 1984–2019, alongside photometric variations between 1983 and 2015. We classified 12 moving knot groups among 17 total knot groups based on their constant proper motions and comparable radial velocities. A strong correlation emerges between the deprojected flow velocities of the knots and the photometric magnitudes of DG Tau. From 1983 to 1995, as the deprojected ejection velocities surged from ∼273 ± 15 to ∼427 ± 16 km s ^−1 , the photometric magnitudes ( V ) concurrently brightened from 12.3 to 11.4. Notably, when DG Tau became brighter than 12.2 in the V band, its ( B − V ) color shifted bluer than its intrinsic color range of K5–M0. During this period, the launching point of the jet in the protoplanetary disk moved closer to 0.06 au from the star in 1995. Following a V magnitude drop from 11.7 to 13.4 in 1998, the star may have experienced significant extinction due to a dust wall created by the disk wind during the ejection of the high-velocity knot in 1999. Since then, the magnitude became fainter than 12.2, the ( B − V ) and ( V − R ) colors became redder, and the deprojected velocities consistently remained below 200 km s ^−1 . The launching point of the jet then moved away to ∼0.45 au by 2008. The prevailing factor influencing photometric magnitude appears to be the active mass accretion causing the variable mass ejection velocities
Constraints on photoevaporation models from (lack of) radio emission in the Corona Australis protoplanetary disks
Photoevaporation due to high-energy stellar photons is thought to be one of the main drivers of protoplanetary disk dispersal. The fully or partially ionized disk surface is expected to produce free-free continuum emission at centimeter (cm) wavelengths that can be routinely detected with interferometers such as the upgraded Very Large Array (VLA). We use deep (rms noise down to 8 μJy beam-1 in the field of view center) 3.5 cm maps of the nearby (130 pc) Corona Australis (CrA) star formation (SF) region to constrain disk photoevaporation models. We find that the radio emission from disk sources in CrA is surprisingly faint. Only three out of ten sources within the field of view are detected, with flux densities of about 102 μJy. However, a significant fraction of their emission is nonthermal. Typical upper limits for nondetections are 3σ ~ 60 μJy beam-1. Assuming analytic expressions for the free-free emission from extreme-UV (EUV) irradiation, we derive stringent upper limits to the ionizing photon luminosity that impinges on the disk surface ΦEUV < 1−4 × 1041 s-1. These limits constrain ΦEUV to the low end of the values needed by EUV-driven photoevaporation models to clear protoplanetary disks within the observed few Myr timescale. Therefore, at least in CrA, EUV-driven photoevaporation is unlikely to be the main agent of disk dispersal. We also compare the observed X-ray luminosities LX of disk sources with models in which photoevaporation is driven by such photons. Although predictions are less specific than for the EUV case, most of the observed fluxes (upper limits) are roughly consistent with the (scaled) predictions. Deeper observations, as well as predictions spanning a wider parameter space, are needed to properly test X-ray driven photoevaporation
