Some Canadian evidence on the quit/lay-off distinction\ud

The question of whether or not there exists a meaningful economic distinction between quits and layoffs has attracted considerable attention. This paper utilizes a recent test proposed by J. S. Cramer and G. Ridder (1991) to test formally whether quits and layoffs may legitimately be aggregated into a single undifferentiated job-mover category. The paper also estimates wage equations for job stayers, quits, and layoffs, corrected for the endogeneity of job mobility. The major results are that quits and lay-off cannot legitimately be pooled and correction for sample selection would appear to be important

The effects of energy price changes: heterogeneous welfare impacts and energy poverty in Indonesia

    No full text
We study the welfare and energy poverty implications of energy price change scenarios in Indonesia. Our analysis extends previous analyses of energy price impacts at the household level in three ways. First, by employing a household energy demand system (QUAIDS), we are able to distinguish between first- and second-order welfare effects over the income distribution. Second, our results point to the ownership of energy-processing durables as another source of impact heterogeneity. Third, we extend the welfare analysis beyond the money-metric utility effects and look at energy poverty, which is understood as the absence of or imperfect access to reliable and clean modern energy services. The analysis indicates that energy prices may serve as an effective instrument to reduce energy use but also have important adverse welfare effects. The latter can, however, be mitigated by appropriate compensation policies

Preparing Lay Ministers in Dominica to Conduct Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of the Priest

Degree awarded: D.Min. Pastoral Studies. The Catholic University of AmericaPreparing Lay Ministers in Dominica for Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a PriestReginald La FleurDirector: Rev. Michael G. Witczak, S.L.D Preparing Lay Ministers in Dominica for Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest which is the topic of this Dissertation makes specific reference to Sacrosanctum concilium, which was the first document that was promulgated at the Second Vatican Council (1963). This document called for reform of the liturgy in order to facilitate the full, conscious, and active participation of the people of God in the liturgical life of the Church, particularly Mass. In the Diocese of Roseau, there is a pastoral situation where one priest has to serve as pastor of multiple parishes. Consequently, in some parishes Mass is replaced with a Communion Service every other Sunday. The Mass remains the proper way of celebrating Sunday, but the people must also recognize the presence of important elements of Sunday worship even when Mass cannot be celebrated. This study presents a systematic analysis of the Vatican II and post Vatican II documents that have seeks to explicate the role of the laity. It is intended to design and implement a model of training for lay ministry which incorporates a four-module course that encompasses liturgical, Eucharistic, scriptural, and preaching components. This will support and provide a basic, holistic approach to guide the ongoing formation of lay ministers. This proposal touches only one aspect of liturgical leadership and has a threefold content: the celebration of the Eucharist, the celebration of Sunday, and the role of Lay Ministers. It has been designed to ensure, in the best way possible and in every situation, the Christian celebration of Sunday.Made available in DSpace on 2011-06-24T17:12:25Z (GMT).
