    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     [ES] La tecnología 6G representa la próxima generación de redes móviles, prometiendo velocidades ultrarrápidas, baja latencia y conectividad masiva. Para lograrlo, 6G promete incorporar tecnologías como la inteligencia artificial (IA) o la detección (sensado) y comunicaciones integradas (ISAC), en la cual se centra el presente proyecto. ISAC permite a las redes 6G no solo transmitir datos, sino también detectar y rastrear objetos, mejorando aplicaciones como vehículos autónomos y reconstrucción del entorno. El desarrollo de nuevos modelos de canal para ISAC es vital para su desempeño, ya que los modelos tradicionales no son adecuados al centrarse tan solo en las comunicaciones, mientras que en ISAC deben presentar como el entorno y los objetos interactúan con el canal, incluyendo nuevas características como la sección recta radar (RCS), no presentes anteriormente en los modelos de comunicaciones convencionales. Estos nuevos modelos de canal para ISAC presentan varias opciones dependiendo del caso de uso. Estos van a ser analizados en este trabajo, donde se estudiarán modelos estocásticos, deterministas o híbridos (una mezcla de los dos anteriores). A su vez, se estudiará como modelar los objetos detectados: como simples o múltiples puntos de dispersión (scattering), como distribuciones estadísticas, como funciones y/o tablas, etc.[EN] 6G technology represents the next generation of mobile networks, promising ultra-fast data speeds, low latency and massive connectivity. To achieve this, 6G promises to incorporate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) or integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), which is the focus of this project. ISAC enables 6G networks not only to transmit data, but also to detect and track objects, enhancing applications such as autonomous vehicles and environmental reconstruction. The development of new channel models for ISAC is vital for its performance, since traditional models are not adequate as they focus only on communications, while in ISAC they must present how the environment and objects interact with the channel, including new features such as radar cross section (RCS), not previously present in conventional communications models. These new channel models for ISAC present several options depending on the use case. These will be analyzed in this work, where stochastic, deterministic or hybrid models (a mixture of the two previous ones) will be studied. In addition, it will be studied how to model the detected objects: as single or multiple scattering points, as statistical distributions, as functions and/or tables, etc.Micó Rosa, S. (2024).     [ES] Actualmente, el cáncer de colon se ha convertido en una enfermedad que presenta una alta incidencia y mortalidad en muchos países. Debido a esto, así como a una fase asintomática prolongada, una detección temprana aumenta en gran medida la probabilidad de supervivencia y disminuya el costo de los tratamientos. Conocer las propiedades electromagnéticas de los tejidos biológicos con la mayor exactitud posible tiene una gran importancia en el diseño de un elevado número de aplicaciones biomédicas. Debido a que el cáncer provoca modificaciones estructurales en las células que a su vez generan cambios en las propiedades dieléctricas, es posible desarrollar aplicaciones de detección de cáncer que se basen en este principio. En lo que se refiere al cáncer de colon, existe la posibilidad de acceder de forma más o menos sencilla a este tejido durante procedimientos endoscópicos. Además, se ha reportado en la literatura, que existe una diferencia considerable en los valores de propiedades dieléctricas de los tejidos sanos y cancerosos, lo cual abre la puerta al empleo de esta técnica como método de diagnóstico. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es prototipar un dispositivo que ayude en la detección de cáncer colorrectal durante la colonoscopia mediante la caracterización dieléctrica de biopsias. Además, este dispositivo puede ser extendido para su uso en procedimientos quirúrgicos de cáncer de colon, para determinar con mayor precisión el alcance del tejido a eliminar. El prototipo ha de ser pequeño y de fácil manejo, además de cumplir con determinados requisitos de esterilización. Además, el diseño del dispositivo debe incluir desde el diseño del equipo en sí, hasta la metodología de medida y procesamiento de los datos si es necesario. Como parte final de este trabajo se contempla la validación preliminar en las unidades de Endoscopias y Cirugía Digestiva del Hospital Universitario La Fe de Valencia.[EN] Currently, colon cancer has become a disease with a high incidence and mortality in many countries. Because of this, as well as a prolonged asymptomatic phase, early detection greatly increases the survival probability and lowers the cost of treatments. Knowing the electromagnetic properties of biological tissues as accurately as possible is of great importance in the design of a large number of biomedical applications. Because cancer causes structural changes in cells that in turn lead to changes in dielectric properties, it is possible to develop cancer detection applications based on this principle. With regard to colon cancer, there is the possibility of more or less easy access to this tissue during endoscopic procedures. In addition, it has been reported in the literature that there is a considerable difference in the values ¿¿of dielectric properties of healthy and cancerous tissues, which enables the use of this technique as a diagnostic method. The main objective of this work is to prototype a device that helps in the detection of colorectal cancer during colonoscopy through the dielectric characterization of biopsies. In addition, this device can be extended for use in colon cancer surgical procedures to more accurately determine the extent of tissue to be removed. The prototype must be small and easy to handle, in addition to meeting certain sterilization requirements. In addition, the design of the device must include everything from the design of the equipment itself, to the measurement methodology and data processing, if necessary. As a final part of this work, the preliminary validation in the Endoscopy and Digestive Surgery units of the Hospital Universitario La Fe of Valencia is contemplated.Micó Rosa, S. (2022).     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
