Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Efficacité et synergie d’une radiothérapie à faible dose associée à une immunothérapie anti-PD-L1
No full textL’efficacité prometteuse de l’association des immunothérapies, dont les inhibiteurs de programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1), et de la radiothérapie (RT) à faible dose est susceptible de créer de nouvelles indications de radiothérapie, tout en limitant la toxicité. Des stratégies récentes utilisent ainsi la radiothérapie à faible dose en association à de multiples immunomodulateurs, ou à une RT ablative à haute dose et des inhibiteurs de checkpoints immunitaires (ICI) dans le but d’améliorer l’efficacité de ces thérapies chez les patients. Cependant, de nouvelles recherches sont nécessaires afin d’explorer et d’’optimiser ces nouvelles stratégies prometteuses. A ce titre, il n’existe actuellement aucune stratégie associant la radiothérapie à faible dose à une immunothérapie unique dans un schéma similaire. En utilisant des modèles précliniques murins, nous avons démontré que la RT faible dose a un effet anti-tumoral synergique avec un anti-PD-L1, dont l’amplitude dépend de la dose de RT utilisée. Ainsi, un traitement de RT faible dose combiné à un anti-PD-L1 avait une efficacité équivalente à celle d’un traitement de RT seule à forte dose, tout en étant moins toxique. Nous avons également démontré qu’une RT faible dose était capable d’augmenter l’efficacité d’un anti-PD-L1 concomitant non-seulement sur la tumeur irradiée, mais également sur une tumeur à distance, et entraînait donc un effet abscopal. Une analyse transcriptomique du microenvironnement immunitaire des tumeurs abscopal a démontré la modulation des macrophages infiltrant ces tumeurs suite à la RT faible dose. La déplétion de ces macrophages par administration intra-tumorale de clodronate a montré leur importance dans l’effet abscopal lié à la RT faible dose. Ces résultats sont en faveur de l’utilisation de RT faible dose chez les patients présentant une tumeur solide, en particulier métastatique, traités par immunothérapie.The synergy of low-dose radiotherapy (RT) with immunotherapy, including programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockade, is found to broaden the scope of patients eligible for RT while limiting toxicity. Recent strategies to increase the efficacy of immunotherapy in patients involve the use of low-dose RT in combination with either a cocktail of immunomodulators, or high-dose RT and immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). However, further investigations are required for a deeper understanding and the optimization of such promising strategies. To our knowledge, there are currently no strategies using low-dose RT as the only irradiation regimen combined to single ICI in the setting of advanced solid tumors. By using preclinical murine models, we demonstrated low-dose RT is able to synergize with concurrent anti-PD-L1 in a dose-depending manner. Thus, low-dose RT in combination with anti-PD-L1 provided the same anti-tumor effects than high-dose RT, while decreasing toxicity. Finally, low-dose RT to one tumor was able to increase the efficacy of concurrent anti-PD- L1 in another tumor, leading to a potent abscopal effect improving the survival of mice, in a similar manner to that observed with high-dose RT. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) showed the modulation of tumor- associated macrophages (TAMs) in abscopal tumors following low-dose RT. Moreover, the deleption of TAMs in abscopal tumors using intra-tumoral administration of liposomal clodronate showed the importance of these cells in the abscopal effect following low-dose RT combined with anti-PD-L1. These findings are in favor of the implementation of low-dose RT in patients with locally advanced and/or metastatic solid tumors treated with immunotherapy

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
