Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Evaluation zervikokranialer Gefäßstenosen mittels MRT: 1,0M Gadobutrol vs. 0,5M Gadoterat-Meglumin - diagnostischer Vorteil durch höhere Molarität?
Purpose: Gadobutrol (GB) is the first 1.0M macrocyclic contrast agent. Thus, it provides better relaxivity compared to 0.5M gadoterate meglumine (GT) in magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and improved signal-to-noise and contrast-to-noise ratios. However, it remains unclear whether these capacities improve graduation of stenosis. Aim of this study was to compare GB and GT with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in terms of quantitative stenosis grading of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and the vertebrobasilar (VB) territory.
Methods: A total of 28 patients with 43 stenoses of the cervicocranial vasculature underwent two identical contrast-enhanced MRA-examinations with both GB and GT used in equimolar dose within 7 days. Gradings of stenosis according to the diameter-based North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) criteria and the area-based cross-sectional area (CSA) ratio were obtained and compared mutually as well as to DSA.
Results: With regard to stenosis grading of the ICA, CE-MRAs with GB and GT showed very strong correlations and no statistically significant differences for both NASCET (p = 0,378; r = 0,958) and CSA ratio (p = 0,191; r = 0,958). When assessing the VB vasculature there were very strong correlations and no significant differences as well. Compared to DSA, ICA-stenoses were without significant differences and showed very strong correlations on NASCET scoring (p = 0,402; rDSA/GB-MRA = 0,904; rDSA/GT-MRA = 0,881). CSA ratio, however, was significantly lower only with GT (post-hoc-p-valueGT-MRA = 0,006), although it showed very strong correlation (rDSA/GT-MRA = 0,823). VB MRAs showed no significant differences and strong correlations of NASCET and CSA ratio versus DSA. The direct comparison of NASCET value and CSA ratio revealed a significantly higher stenosis grading via CSA calculation with both GB and GT, as well as in DSA (p < 0,001 in the ICA series).
Conclusion: In this study, equimolar dosed GB and GT yield equivalent grading of stenosis. Despite higher molarity, no clinically relevant diagnostic advantage of 1.0M GB concerning precision of measurement in ICA- and VB stenoses could be demonstrated.Hintergrund und Ziele: Gadobutrol (GB) ist das erste verfügbare 1,0M makrozyklische Kontrastmittel. Es bietet hierdurch eine verbesserte Relaxivität im Vergleich zu 0,5M Gadoterat-Meglumin (GT) in der Magnetresonanzangiographie (MRA). In früheren Arbeiten wurden bereits höhere signal-to-noise und contrast-to-noise ratio-Werte mit GB nachgewiesen. Dennoch ist unklar, ob dies auch zu diagnostischen Vorteilen in der Stenosegraduierung führt. Ziel dieser Arbeit war der Vergleich von GB und GT mit digitaler Subtraktionsangiographie (DSA) in der quantitativen Graduierung von Stenosen der A. carotis interna (ACI) und des vertebrobasilären (VB) Stromgebiets.
Methoden (Patienten, Material und Untersuchungsmethoden): 28 Patienten mit 43 Stenosen der zervikokranialen Gefäße erhielten zwei identische MRA-Bildgebungen mit jeweils GB und GT in äquimolarer Dosis innerhalb von 7 Tagen. Die Stenosegrade wurden anhand des Durchmesser-basierten North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET)-Werts und des Querschnitt-basierten Cross-Sectional Area (CSA)-Quotienten berechnet und untereinander sowie mit DSA-Datensätzen verglichen.
Ergebnisse und Beobachtungen: Beim Vergleich der GB- und GT-MRA zeigten sich im Fall der ACI sehr starke Korrelationen und keine signifikanten Unterschiede der NASCET-Werte (p = 0,378, r = 0,958) oder CSA-Quotienten (p = 0,191; r = 0,958). Auch an VB Gefäßen konnte kein signifikanter Unterschied bei sehr starken Korrelationen detektiert werden. Beim Vergleich mit den DSA-Serien ergaben sich für die ACI keine signifikanten Unterschiede und sehr starke Korrelationen der NASCET-Werte (p = 0,402; rDSA/GB-MRA = 0,904; rDSA/GT-MRA = 0,881). Nur bei GT konnten signifikant niedrigere CSA-Quotienten nachgewiesen werden (Post-Hoc-p-WertGT-MRA = 0,006), trotz sehr starker Korrelation (rDSA/GT-MRA = 0,823). Die VB Messungen ergaben gegenüber der DSA keine signifikanten Unterschiede und starke Korrelationen der NASCET- und CSA-Werte. Der direkte Vergleich von NASCET- und CSA-Werten ergab signifikant höhere Stenosegrade anhand der Flächenverhältnisse mit GB, GT und DSA (ACI-Reihe: p < 0,001).
Schlussfolgerung: In dieser Studie ergeben GB und GT in äquimolarer Dosierung eine äquivalente Stenosegraduierung. Trotz höherer Molarität führt 1,0M GB nicht zu einer klinisch relevanten verbesserten Messgenauigkeit bei ACI- und VB Stenosen

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
