Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Equilibrium and kinects adsorption of copper and zinc in tropical soils
The expansion resulted in the use of several classes of soil for cultivation and the use of fertilizers made essential. However, the physical-hydraulic and chemical properties of soils are determinants of their greater or lesser susceptibility to leaching and contamination of groundwater by metal ions present in agrochemicals, such as copper and zinc. These metals are essential to the life cycle of plants and their availability in the soil is related to the type and content of clay, organic matter and iron and aluminum oxides present. Thus, the objective of this paper was to quantify the adsorption of copper and zinc in mono and multicomponent systems in a Red Latosol (LV), Haplic Cambisol (CX) and Quartzarenic Neosol (RQ) using adsorption isotherms and kinetics, by Batch method. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir multocomponent and Freundlich multicomponent equilibrium models were fitted to the observed data, for initial concentrations of the evaluated and companion ion of 10, 15, 30, 40 and 50 mg L-1, determining the Gibbs free energy and the separation factor. For the kinetics test, the contact times of 2, 5, 10, 20, 60, 120, 180, 240 and 1440 minutes were evaluated, adjusting the models of pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and Elovich. To evaluate the average adsorption for the equilibrium and adsorption kinetics, it was used a completely randomized design in a factorial scheme with three replications. Copper was the ion most adsorbed in the mono and multicomponent systems for equilibrium and adsorption kinetics because its greater electronegativity. Among the soils, CX was the one with the greatest ion retention capacity due to the presence of 2:1 and 1:1 clay minerals. The RQ, on the other hand, was the one that least adsorbed the ions and, despite the higher energy of the binding sites, it is a soil more conducive to the leaching of copper and zinc. The LV, although it has the highest clay content among the studied soils, did not show a high capacity for adsorption by the type of clay present. The Freündlich and Langmuir multicomponent isotherm model obtained good adjustments to the observed data. For kinetics, the pseudo-first order model fits both mono and multicomponent systems. Gibbs' free energy showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and there was a predominance of physisorption.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)A expansão agrícola resultou na utilização de diversas classes de solo para o cultivo e o uso de fertilizantes tornou-se fundamental. Contudo, as propriedades físico-hídricas e químicas dos solos são determinantes da sua maior ou menor suscetibilidade à lixiviação e contaminação das águas subterrâneas por íons metálicos presentes nos agroquímicos, como o cobre e o zinco. Estes metais são essenciais ao ciclo de vida das plantas e sua disponibilidade no solo relaciona-se com o tipo e teor de argila, matéria orgânica e óxidos de ferro e alumínio presentes. Assim, objetivou-se quantificar a adsorção de cobre e de zinco em sistema mono e multicomponentes em um Latossolo Vermelho (LV), Cambissolo Háplico (CX) e Neossolo Quartzarênico (RQ) por meio de isotermas e cinéticas de adsorção, empregando-se o método Batch. Aos dados observados, foram ajustados os modelos de equilíbrio de Langmuir, Freündlich, Langmuir multicomponente e Freündlich multicomponente, para concentrações iniciais do íon avaliado e acompanhante de 10, 15, 30, 40 e 50 mg L-1, determinada a energia livre de Gibbs e o fator de separação. Já para o ensaio de cinética foram avaliados os tempos de contato de 2, 5, 10, 20, 60, 120, 180, 240 e 1440 minutos, ajustando-se os modelos de pseudo-primeira ordem, pseudo-segundo ordem e Elovich. Para avaliação da adsorção média dos ensaios de equilíbrio e cinética foi montado um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial com três repetições. O cobre foi o íon mais adsorvido tanto no sistema mono quanto multicomponentes para os ensaios de equilíbrio e cinética de adsorção, devido à sua maior eletronegatividade. Dentre os solos, o CX foi o que apresentou maior capacidade de retenção de íons devido à presença de argilominerais 2:1 e 1:1. O RQ, por outro lado, foi o que menos adsorveu os íons e, apesar da maior energia dos sítios de ligação, é um solo mais propício à lixiviação de cobre e zinco. O LV, embora tenha o maior teor de argila dentre os solos estudados, não demonstrou elevada capacidade de adsorção pelo tipo de argila presente. O modelo de isoterma de Freündlich e Langmuir multicomponente obtiveram bons ajustes aos dados observados. Para a cinética, o modelo de pseudo-primeira ordem se ajustou tanto para os sistemas mono quanto multicomponentes. A energia livre de Gibbs mostrou que o processo de adsorção foi espontâneo e houve predominância de fisissorção
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
