    Frames of Reference Experimental Study

The goal of this study is to determine whether recalling explicit memories in a personal frame of reference versus using semantic memory in a abstract frame of reference influences people’s feelings of nature connectedness and subsequent environmental moral reasoning. The rationale is that by associating ones own personal memories to nature they feel more connected to it than if they need to recall facts about nature. The human categorisation task used in Levin & Unsworth (2013) is seen as a potential measure for connectedness to nature and so the study will look to validate this by comparing it with the Inclusion of Nature in Self Scale (INS) (Schultz, 2001). Research suggests that people who perceive greater overlap between themselves and nature are more likely to participate in pro-environmental conduct, and so this will be tested by a moral reasoning exercise similar to that used by Hahn & Garrett, 2017. The results can help us better understand the link between self, human, and nature. (Davis, Green, & Reed, 2009; Schultz, 2001; Levin & Unsworth, 2013)
