Integrated weed management in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

    No full text
The poor competition ability of chickpea opens the door for weed to cause a serious yield loss. The experimental field is conducted to evaluate the integrated effects of pre-emergence herbicides and hand-weeding on weed control, yield components, yield, and their economic feasibility for cost effective weed control in chickpea. The experiment consisted of 12 treatments viz. pre-emergence s-metolachlor (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 kg ha−1) and pendimethalin (1.0, 1.25 and 1.5 kg ha−1), each at three rates metolachlor, s-metolachlor + one-hand-weeding, pendimethalin + one-hand-weeding, two-hand-weeding, complete weed free and weedy checks arranged. The weed flora consisted of broadleaved and sedge with the relative densities of 95.24 and 4.76% at Haramaya district, and 93.72 and 6.28%, at Hirna district, respectively. Application of s-metolachlor and pendimethalin 1.0 kg ha−1 each supplemented with hand weeding 5 WAE significantly (p ≤ 0.01) affected the broadleaved weeds, sedges and weed dry weight at both sites. S-metolachlor 1.0 kg ha−1 supplemented with hand weeding 5 WAE gave the lowest total number of weeds (21.78 m−2) following the weed free check. Higher average grain yield (2344.41 kg ha−1 or 234.441 g m−2) was produced with s-metolachlor 1.0 kg ha−1 supplemented with one-hand-weeding 5 WAE following complete weed-free. The benefit gained from s-metolachlor and pendimethalin at 1.0 kg ha−1 each supplemented with one hand weeding 5 WAE were greater than the value recorded from the weedy check by 216% and 198 %, respectively. S-metolachlor 1.0 kg ha−1 supplemented with hand weeding 5 WAE treatments resulted in the highest grain yield and economic benefit. However, in case labour is constraint and s-metolachlor herbicide is timely available, pre emergence application of s-metolachlor at 2.0 kg ha−1 should be the alternative to preclude the yield loss and to ensure maximum benefit. Herbicides application is an integral part of farmer’s crop management in modern agricultural systems

Author Musse Alemu Year 2014 Supervisor Mattila Erkki Commissioned by Oy Aurora Data and Systems Ltd. Title of thesis REST API No. of pages + app. 44 + 2 Communication between various systems is common in the technology world. Thus, this thesis report discussed one of the popular means of communication, REST API. Additionally, it described the six basic constraints of REST conjointly to HATEOAS constraint. Furthermore, it observed all the good advantages REST API has over SOAP. Moreover, it demonstrated practical implementation of Restful web services. The report started to discuss from the bigger picture, software architecture, and continued down to API level. Besides, it clearly documented how REST architectural principles are applied in API level. Moreover, it demonstrated the implementation of REST API using Flask-Python micro framework. As a result, the report used classical approach to introduce REST API. Accordingly, in this report solid theoretical explanation is covered. Moreover, a step-by-step guide for practical use of RESTful web service also shown. Therefore, it suggested all the good reasons why REST is needed as a standard to be a means of communication between systems

The purpose of this study was to examine the practice of teacher licensing and relicensing implementation for primary school teachers and to identify the challenges related to a low score in the competency exam in South West Shewa Zone. It was concerned with identifying the extent of implementing the criteria and process of teachers licensing and relicensing, the challenges observed in implementing and how teachers and school leaders perceive its importance as quality assurance and professional development. This study employed the concurrent mixed research design including both quantitative and qualitative methods by more focusing on quantitative one. A total of 522 respondents including 339 teachers sampled through multistage sampling in which simple random sampling techniques were employed and 159 school leaders sampled through comprehensive sampling from the schools’ teachers were selected; and 24 zone and woreda education office heads and experts, and Woreda and school teachers’ association representatives selected using purposive sampling techniques were participated in responding the questionnaires ant interview. Questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis were used to collect data for the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviations) with the help of SPSS version 20. Based on the analysis of the data, it was found that the implementation of both criteria and process of teachers licensing and renewing according the guide and teachers’ competency exam result were found low. And also teachers’ perception regarding teachers licensing implementation was low or negatively perceived teachers licensing and relicensing. The study also found that teachers licensing and relicensing was challenging by low preparation of teachers for teachers’ competency exam, low awareness of teachers on standards and different directives of teachers licensing and high workload on teachers and also connection of teachers licensing with teachers’ career development was low. The study concluded that teachers licensing and relicensing was not implementing according to the directives and guideline established and lack of awareness of different parties was challenging the implementation of teachers licensing. Based on these findings and conclusion drown, capacitating teachers and other professionals, implementing teachers licensing and relicensing according to the directives and guidelines and facilitating the online test and assessment mechanism were suggested
