Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Essas mídias chegam às escolas e, se usadas de maneira pedagógica, possibilitam a criação de ambientes mais dinâmicos e ativos para a construção dos conceitos matemáticos. Com a chegada das tecnologias digitais móveis, surge a necessidade da adaptação do saber tecnológico do docente a elas. Nesta perspectiva, surgiu como cenário da pesquisa, o desenvolvimento de um curso básico de programação de aplicativos educacionais móveis no software de programação App Inventor 2, com a finalidade de verificar quais as contribuições e limitações que este pode apresentar para a formação do professor de matemática. Sendo assim temos como questão norteadora: "Quais as contribuições que o desenvolvimento de aplicativos educacionais móveis utilizando o software de programação App Inventor 2, pode trazer para à formação de professores de matemática?". Temos como objetivos específicos analisar o desenvolvimento e/ou aprimoramento do saber tecnológico dos professores que realizaram o curso de formação; destacar algumas possibilidades de construção de aplicativos educacionais móveis no App Inventor 2. Para responder a questão levantada, bem como para atingir nossos objetivos, realizamos uma pesquisa qualitativa, sob o aspecto da pesquisa participante, tendo 09 sujeitos, licenciandos Matemática, pós-graduandos em Educação matemática, ou graduados de áreas afins, que realizaram a inscrição online para o curso. Inicialmente buscamos nos repositórios materiais que auxiliassem na fundamentação teórica desta pesquisa, partindo em seguida para a exploração do software de programação App Inventor 2 e para a construção dos aplicativos que seriam usados durante o curso de formação ofertado. Após o conhecimento das potencialidades do software organizamos e desenvolvemos o "Curso Básico do Software de Programação App Inventor 2: Desenvolvendo Aplicativos educacionais para o Ensino da Geometria" nas instalações da UTFPR campus Curitiba, com o intuito de constituir os dados da pesquisa. Como instrumentos metodológicos, utilizamos a aplicação de questionários, observações e anotações, gravações das apresentações e os arquivos dos aplicativos produzidos pelos participantes Os resultados da pesquisa indicam a existência de contribuições para a formação de professores de matemática, indicando uma remodelação dos saberes docentes, propostos por Tardif, com o intermédio das tecnologias digitais, e que foram nomeados nessa pesquisa por, saber tecnológico disciplinar, tecnológico curricular, tecnológico da formação profissional e tecnológico experiencial. These medias reach schools and, if used in a pedagogical manner, enable the creation of more dynamic and active environments for the construction of mathematical concepts. With the arrival of mobile digital technologies, the need arises to adapt the teacher's technological knowledge to them. In this perspective, the development of a basic course of programming mobile educational applications in the App Inventor 2 software emerged as a research scenario, in order to verify the contributions and limitations that it can present to the mathematics teacher training. Therefore, we have as a guiding question: "What contributions can the development of mobile educational applications using the programming software App Inventor 2 bring to the training of mathematics teachers?". Our specific objectives are to analyze the development and or improvement of the technological knowledge of the teachers who took the training course; highlight some possibilities of building mobile educational applications in App Inventor 2. To answer the question raised, as well as to achieve our goals, we conducted a qualitative research, in the engaging research aspect, with 09 subjects, Mathematics graduates, postgraduate students in Mathematical education, or graduates from related fields, who have applied online for the course. Initially, we searched the repositories for materials that would help in the theoretical foundation of this research, starting with the exploration of App Inventor 2 programming software and the construction of applications that would be used during the offered training course. After learning about the potential of the software, we organized and developed the "App Inventor 2 Programming Software Basic Course: Developing Educational Applications for Geometry Teaching" at the UTFPR campus Curitiba facilities, with the purpose of constituting the research data. As methodological instruments, we used the application of questionnaires, observations and annotations, recordings of the presentations and the application files produced by the participants. The research results indicate the existence of contributions to the formation of mathematics teachers, revealing a remodeling of the teaching knowledge proposed by Tardif through digital technologies, that were named in this research by technological disciplinary knowledge, technological curriculum, technological professional training and experiential technological. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
