Dynamic pricing for airline ancillaries with customer context
Ancillaries in the travel industry have become a major source of income and profitability. However, conventional pricing strategies are based on poorly optimized business rules that do not respond to changing market conditions.
This study describes the dynamic pricing model that we have developed in conjunction with Deepair solutions, an AI technology provider for travel suppliers. We present a pricing model that provides dynamic pricing recommendations specific to each customer interaction and optimizes expected revenue per customer. The unique nature of personalized pricing provides the opportunity to search over the market space to find the optimal price-point of each ancillary for each customer, without violating customer privacy.
In this study, we present and compare three approaches for dynamic pricing of ancillaries, with increasing levels of sophistication: (1) a two-stage forecasting and optimization model using a logistic mapping function; (2) a two-stage model that uses a deep neural network for forecasting, coupled with a revenue maximization technique using discrete exhaustive search; (3) a single-stage end-to-end deep neural network that recommends the optimal price. We describe the performance of these models based on both offline and online evaluations. We also measure the real-world business impact of these approaches by deploying them in an A/B test on an airline's internet booking website. We show that traditional machine learning techniques outperform human rule-based approaches in an online setting by improving conversion by 36% and revenue per offer by 10%. We also provide results for our offline experiments which show that deep learning algorithms outperform traditional machine learning techniques for this problem.
Additionally, we propose a meta-learning approach for synchronous deployment of multiple models. This approach is currently under production with our partner airline. Our end-to-end deep learning model is currently being deployed by the airline in their booking system.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2021-05-01The student, Naman Shukla, accepted the attached license on 2019-04-24 at 12:54.The student, Naman Shukla, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2019-04-24 at 13:09.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2019-04-26 at 08:55.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #13881 on 2019-08-22 at 15:08:18Made available in DSpace on 2019-08-23T20:36:09Z (GMT). COMMON ENCRYPTION/ DECRYPTION SPECIFICATION
The invention relates to using a common specification to encrypt and decrypt EMV tags. Currently, several EMV tags are not included and hence, payment gateways need to provide service based on different merchants. Hence, a common specification solves the problem of the payment gateways re-programming according to the needs to different merchants. Each merchant can program respective POS devices according to the common specification, thus reducing the complexity and burden on the payment gateways

Two paralogous genes, Opn4x and Opn4m, were described as responsible for the expression of melanopsin. The role of each type of melanopsin in the vertebrate retina is still not fully elucidated and a diversity of expression patterns of this photopigment can be observed in retinas of different vertebrate species. Owls are an excellent model for studying the role of melanopsin due to the diversity of species and their different activity patterns, with owls with diurnal, nocturnal and cathemeral habits. The purpose of the study was to characterize the expression of melanopsin in different species of owls of the Strigidae and Tytonidae family: Athene cunicularia, Asio clamator, Glaucidium brasilianum, Megascops choliba, and Tyto furcata, through genetic, phylogenetic and morphological analyses. The animals were obtained from the Institute of Biological Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais and sacrificed with the sodium pentobarbital (50 mg/kg of weight) injected intraperitoneally, followed by a guillotine. Collections were carried out from 11:30 am to 12:30 am in August/2019. The eyes were enucleated, and the retinas were dissected for genetic and morphological studies. RNA extraction and transcription cDNA were performed. The melanopsin cDNA was used in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with subsequent sequencing to identify melanopsin genes expressed in the retina of owls. For the quantitative analysis of gene expression, the real-time PCR was performed. Data were compared by analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) followed by Tukey test. The phylogenetic reconstruction was obtained by the maximum likelihood method (Maximum Likelihood, ML) using the program Garli v.0.96. Statistical support for the branches was obtained by non-parametric boostrap. In morphological studies, retinas of the species A. cunicularia, G. brasilianum and T. furcata were labeled with specific antibodies for melanopsin OPN4x and OPN4m, by immunohistochemistry and revealed with secondary antibody CY3. The results showed that the genetic owls express both genes of melanopsin, Opn4x Opn4m, and phylogenetic analysis of the gene recovered phylogeny of owls, with separation of two monophyletic clades formed by Strigidae and Tytonidae families. Real-time PCR showed a variation in expression pattern between nocturnal, diurnal and catameral species. In the morphological results, it was observed that melanopsin can be expressed in the photoreceptor layer (PL), in the inner nuclear layer (INL), in the ganglion cell layer (GCL), and in the nerve fiber layer (NFL). Based on all the results obtained, it is observed that in species with different habits the melanopsin pattern differs and it is possible to infer that melanopsin genes may have different functions in the retina of owls. The results point to the need for further research on the gene expression of melanopsin in owls at other times of the day, to better understand the pattern of expression throughout the day in these species and its relationship with different patterns of activity dail
