Learning in the New Normal: Positive convergence of technology, quality, and sustainability
All of us are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic that caused disruptions in education, healthcare, economy, and travels. Likewise, it is impacting the way we live, study, work, think, and interact. This perspectives provide how the education sector is affacted by the outbreak, and how the online learning has catapulted into the forefront due to the restriction of face-to-face classes.
Communication is very important and vital during this pandemic. We need to communicate clearly, positively, and effectively. In the digital platform of teaching and learning, the teacher needs to be creative and innovative in communicating, to get the interest and attention of the students, thus, make the learning process more engaging and interactive.
In this paper, the author writes the challenges for conducting online learning in the new normal that involving the three vital elements: Technology, Quality, and Sustainability
Angiotensin II induces soluble fms-Like tyrosine kinase-1 release via calcineurin signaling pathway in pregnancy
Maternal endothelial dysfunction in preeclampsia is associated with increased soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), a circulating antagonist of vascular endothelial growth factor and placental growth factor. Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a potent vasoconstrictor that increases concomitant with sFlt-1 during pregnancy. Therefore, we speculated that Ang II may promote the expression of sFlt-1 in pregnancy. Here we report that infusion of Ang II significantly increases circulating levels of sFlt-1 in pregnant mice, thereby demonstrating that Ang II is a regulator of sFlt-1 secretion in vivo. Furthermore, Ang II stimulated sFlt-1 production in a dose- and time-dependent manner from human villous explants and cultured trophoblasts but not from endothelial cells, suggesting that trophoblasts are the primary source of sFlt-1 during pregnancy. As expected, Ang II-induced sFlt-1 secretion resulted in the inhibition of endothelial cell migration and in vitro tube formation. In vitro and in vivo studies with losartan, small interfering RNA specific for calcineurin and FK506 demonstrated that Ang II-mediated sFlt-1 release was via Ang II type 1 receptor activation and calcineurin signaling, respectively. These findings reveal a previously unrecognized regulatory role for Ang II on sFlt-1 expression in murine and human pregnancy and suggest that elevated sFlt-1 levels in preeclampsia may be caused by a dysregulation of the local renin/angiotensin system
Servant leadership inventory: Its development, validation, and norming
This study is about the development, validation, and norming of a Servant-Leadership Inventory (SLI), to assess the servant-leadership practices of school leaders and their manifestations of the servant-leadership traits. It aims to find out the core factors which can measure servant-leadership in the school setting, and to establish the validity, reliability, and the norms of the instrument. The respondents of the study were 772 school leaders. Eleven (11) servant-leadership traits based on the theory of Robert Greenleaf were used as the hypothesized factors of the servant-leadership construct, namely: servant-first, listening, empathy, stewardship, commitment to growth of people, healing, foresight, conceptualization, awareness, persuasion, and community-building. The items were formulated based on the literature and a Delphi survey. The item review made by a panel of experts, established the content validity of the 247 accepted items out of the 300 initial item pool. The items were analyzed using item total correlation. Those items which did not reach the set criterion were eliminated. In the factor analysis, most of the items did not load under the factors that they were originally categorized
Analysis and prediction of prudential judgement and legal ability of educational managers in private secondary schools in Metro Manila
This research investigated the nature of prudential judgment and legal ability. An instrument was developed and validated, and used to assess and analyze the prudential judgment and legal ability of educational managers in private secondary schools in Metro Manila. The instrument evolved five core factors which were covered in the analysis and profiling: three on prudential judgment (goodwill, justice, peace and order) and two on legal ability (legalistic and non-legalistic). The study additionally yielded path models for predicting prudential judgment and legal ability. The findings of the study are breakthroughs in the educational managers’ professional development in school legislation and decision-making skills
"I' ll tell you a story that will make you believe" in narratives: the role of metafiction in the novel and in the film Life of Pi
Abstract : Recent studies propose that Film Adaptations should be understood as sources of creation, which also reflect a different context and interpretation from the text upon which they were based. In this thesis, I propose a comparative analysis of the novel Life of Pi (2001), by Yann Martel, and the homonymous film directed by Ang Lee (2012). The analysis has the objective of identifying the presence and the way in which metafiction is constructed in the novel and in the film, and what are some of the meanings produced by it in both texts, the filmic and the literary. The concept of metafiction was based on the definitions by Linda Hutcheon and Patricia Waugh. It is understood as the self-conscious fictional text, which exposes the writing process to the readers and invites them to have an active role in the construction of meaning. In the comparative analyses of the two texts, I have proved that metafiction is present in the two texts, both thematically and structurally. The reflections of the characters on narrative itself as well as the use of different narrative levels and intertextual references reveal different uses of metanarrative in both film and novel. The most important difference between the novel and the film Life of Pi is in their uses of different narrative levels. While the novel has an unnamed =author? who presents the story to the readers, the film has an implicit director who leaves =clues? of which version of Pi?s story is ?real? in the context of the narrative. This difference gives to the novel an open end, facein which the readers must choose which version of the story they believe in, while the film presents a resolution to this question. The film, thus, can be understood as a testimony narrative, a narrative of the trauma of a survivor from a shipwreck and from the experience of migration, while the novel does not decide for one of the versions of the story, enabling a more inconclusive reading
Susing salita: Vicente Rama, salin, kathang pangkasaysayan, kolera ABSTRACT“Artemio Aranas” is a short story or sugilanon in Sugbuanong Binisaya. It was written by Vicente Rama: fictionist, newspaper editor, and politician from Cebu City, Cebu. “Artemio Aranas” was translated into English by essayist-fictionist Renato Madrid (nom de plume of Fr. Rodolfo Villanueva) and was among those rendered into that language in a compilation of Rama’s works released in 2003. The short story was situated during one of the cholera epidemics that hit Cebu in the 1900s. That context will be discussed in the first part of the paper. One can notice in the narrative the tensions between “modern, scientific” knowledge in medicine that were brought by American occupiers and the traditional beliefs being held by the Cebuanos during at that time. There were also tensions between the “older” and “younger” generations that broke out amid the political, cultural, and lingustic changes raveling in the archipelago during those times. “Artemio Aranas” also features the perceived misinformation by some newspapers in Cebu on the epidemic and the bull-headedness of some people in that capital of Cebu province. This author recommends a Filipino translation of “Artemio Aranas” in order to make the story more accessible to readers who do not have a copy, either of the Sugbuanong Binisaya original or of the English translation. The challenges in making this translation will also be mentioned. Keywords: Vicente Rama, translation, historical fiction, choler

ang. Teacher’s proffesionalism - what is?
Author makes on subject of teachers' professionalism the review of opinion, ladled from different accessible sources in Internecie. The also personal, subjective argument of idealized model of the teacher's professionalism represents. Placing the thesis, that the shaped teacher, educative and working in day of egoism and propagating it is not the musings in me willing to renouncements of, devotion, or the free pracy. Introduction to school programmes as well as programmes of education of teachers of elements of social education in figure of how the most frequent pupil's contacts with different men would have to be with remedial centre - especially from Innymi and Obcymi. Author's sentence, it can not be about the teacher's professionalism of his become fond of the man the speeches. Discussion about professionalism of teacher's occupation would can so concern searches on question answer also: "What do to make teacher to pass me matter that it worked with man?”Autor dokonuje przeglądu opinii na temat profesjonalizmu nauczycieli, zaczerpniętych z różnych źródeł dostępnych w Internecie.
This article presents a critique of the popular song, “Nagmahal Ako [ng Bakla]” by Dagtang Lason (2009) through a close reading of the song’s lyrics, music video, and the text’s place within a larger sociohistorical milieu replete with various popular phenomena—including the continually evolving forms of the identities presented in the song such as the bakla, the lalaki (man), and the composition, negotiation, and negation of the desire—as it exists and is performed—between them. The homophobia that pervades the song is brought to the fore by highlighting certain features of the dynamics between the bakla and the lalaki as narrated by the song’s persona, thereby placing the song within the bakla’s continual character development as a marker of both his composition and oppression.
This article presents a section of a larger study that the author writes about the bakla, his local culture, and his various portrayals through local music
Understandings and social practices of medications for Zimbabwean households in New Zealand
Medications are a central part of health care. How medications are understood and used by people in everyday life remains unclear. This study looks at understanding and social practices of medications in everyday life for Zimbabwean households in New Zealand. This project investigates understandings of medications and their use, taking account of all forms of medications, medical drugs, alternative medicines, traditional medicines and dietary supplements. Four Zimbabwean migrant families who all reside in Hamilton took part in this study. Data were collected using a variety of methods which included individual interviews with the families, household discussions, photographs, diaries, material objects, and media content to capture the complex and fluid nature of popular understandings and use of medications. This research provides insight into the cultural values and practices of these four families pertaining to how they acquired, used, shared, and stored indigenous and biomedical medications. Four key themes were identified: the preference of biomedical over traditional medications, storage, sharing and safety of medications; availability and affordability of medications; and the influence of the media in making decisions to purchase medications. Knowledge of how meanings are linked to the things people do with medications will inform strategies for ensuring that medication use is safe and effective
Towards a brain like computer - 1
In recent years, neuroscientists and nanoscientists have been working together to map the activity of the entire human brain and the eye. This ambitious project aims to unlock the mysteries of these complex systems and shed light on how they function. By combining technology such as LM393 and Light Emitting Diodes, the author hopes to create a comprehensive map of the neural circuits and pathways that underlie perception, cognition, and behavior. This research has the potential to improve the understanding of the brain and the eye. However, it is also an enormous challenge, requiring the collaboration of intense research from multiple disciplines and the development of new methods and tools. Despite these challenges, progress is being made, and the field is rapidly advancing towards its goal of mapping the activity of the human brain and eye at unprecedented levels of detail.Bachelor of Engineering Science (Electrical and Electronic Engineering
