No full textThe purpose of this article is to present, on the one and, a general view of the activities developed by the "mercedarios" of the Spanish America and more especifically in Peru during the period of the conquest. Main enphasis is given to the reason of the early presence of this "Orden de la Merced" despite their belonging to the mendicant orders. Also especial reference will be made to the pecularities of their peaceful and liberating doctrinal methods. A second part is dedicated to the more relevant "mercedarios" as Fray Fernando de Carvajal, Archbishop of Santo Domingo and, Fray Francisco de Bovadilla, whose pacifying attitude, led him to mediate between Almagro and Pizarro.El estudio presenta, en su primera parte, una panorámica de Ia labor desarrollada por los mercedarios en la América Española y, particularmente, en Perú, durante cl periodo de conquista. En él se abordan algunas cuestiones de interés como la razón de la temprana presencia en el Nuevo Mundo de la Orden de la Merced, a pesar de no pertenecer al tronco de las mendicantes, o como las peculiaridades de sus métodos doctrinales pacíficos y liberadores. En Ia segunda parte se pasa revista a algunos de los mercedarios más destacados, entre ellos, fray Fernando de Carvajal, arzobispo de Santo Domingo, y fray Francisco de Bovadilla, mediador entre Almagro y Pizarro, con cuya semblanza pacificadora se concluye

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
