Wang Meng and contemporary Chinese literature: the vicissitudes of a committed writer
Get PDFThis thesis examines the way Wang Meng has developed as a writer from the 1950s to the 1990s in the context of New China's political and literary background. It looks at the compromises he was forced to make between his political beliefs in the Communist Party and his chosen role as a professional writer. After his disastrous early foray into what was deemed to be unacceptable political criticism with The Young Newcomer in the Organisation Department in the 1950s, when the opportunity came to start publishing again in the late 1970s he was boldly innovative in style, helping to transform New Period literature, but conservative in content, sticking to politically acceptable topics. It was only with Hard Porridge in 1989 that he ventured again, and very successfully, into political comment. There is no outstanding leading writer in contemporary China, but Wang Meng is a leading contender for the title

No full textGammarus tianshan nom. nov. = G. montanus Hou et al., 2004, in Hou et al., 2004: 257 –284, figs 1–5. Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition, derived from the type locality. Diagnosis and description. see Hou et al., 2004. Remarks. Hou et al. (2004) established a new species of the genus Gammarus based on specimens from Tianshan Town, Xinjiang Province, China, Gammarus montanus, whose name is invalid as it has been previously used for Gammarus pavlovici montanus Karaman, S., 1929 from Skopska Crna Gora, Macedonia. Although Gammarus pavlovici montanus Karaman, S., 1929 was synonymized with Gammarus balcanicus Schäferna, 1922 (Karaman 1977, Karaman & Pinkster 1987), it may be a valid taxon based on molecular analysis (Mamos et al. 2016). Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
