Effect of Sodium Alkane Sulfonate Addition on Tribological Properties of Emulsion for Cold Rolling Strips: Experimental and Simulation Investigations

    No full text
Cold rolling emulsion contains a variety of functional additives, which often exhibit complex interactions with each other. Sodium alkane sulfonate (SAS) is a common corrosion inhibitor used in cold rolling emulsions for temporary rust prevention. In this study, it was found that SAS would deteriorate the tribological properties of the emulsion. Emulsions containing SAS and different friction modifiers were prepared. Tribology tests were carried out on a four-ball friction and wear tester. White light interferometer was used to investigate the 3D morphology of the friction surface and wear volume. Microscopic morphology of friction surfaces was observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The chemical activity and electrostatic potential of the molecules were calculated based on density functional theory (DFT). The adsorption energies of additives on metal surfaces were calculated via molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The results indicate that the strong electrostatic force gives SAS an advantage in competitive adsorption with ester friction modifiers due to the positive charge on the metal surface. This results in the friction modifier not functioning properly and the tribological properties of the emulsion being significantly reduced

Growth of CrSi2 Nanostructures Using CrCl2 Powder on Si Substrates

Chromium disilicide (CrSi2) nanostructures were grown by the exposure of Si (111) substrates to CrCl2 vapor in an argon gas flow at atmospheric pressure without using any metal catalyst. Dependence of the growth condition on the structural property was investigated. Hexagonal-shaped CrSi2 microrods were grown at 750 °C with 0.05 g of CrCl2. As the quantity of CrCl2 increased to 0.1 g, the bundle of CrSi2 nanowires with microrods and web-liked CrSi2 nanostructure with turning angles were grown at 750 °C and 700 °C, respectively. The preliminary discussion on the growth mechanism of CrSi2 micro- and nanostructures was carried out

Shape modification of Si nanowires by using faceted silicide catalysts nucleated in Au-Si catalyst solution during the growth

    No full text
The shape modification of Si nanowires is demonstrated using faceted solid silicide catalysts. The Si nanowires were grown on Si(111) substrates covered with Au as a catalyst using MnCl2 and Si powders as source materials. The solid silicide catalysts were nucleated and formed in the Au-Si catalyst solution at the top of the nanowires during the growth. The faceted solid silicides grew larger with increased growth time and played a role as a solid catalyst. The faceted shape of the catalyst defines the shape of the faceted Si nanowire. The squared Si nanowires were grown with the growth direction of Si[111] and the sidewalls of {110} and {211} planes. The growth evolution of the faceted Si nanowires occurs by a vapor-liquid-solid mechanism followed by the silicide vapor-solid-solid mechanism

A variety of nanostructured silicide bundles and oxide nanowire arrays with abundant, non-toxic materials we are prepared. The CrSi2 nanowire and Mg2Si/MgO composite nanowire bundles were synthesized using a Si substrate and a SiOx nanofiber bundle, respectively. The hexagonal MoSi2 nanosheet bundles were also synthesized using a MoS2 layered material as a template. In addition, ZnO, CuO/Cu2O and a-Fe2O3 nanowire arrays were prepared on semiconductor or metallic substrates. The growth phenomena and the structural properties of the nanostructured materials awere investigated. In addition, the preparations of axial and radial nanowire structures weare examined

Each lipid diet was supplemented with three concentrations of α-lipoic acid at 0, 700 and 1400 mg/kg, and fed to E. sinensis juveniles for eight weeks. The weight gain and specific growth rate of crabs fed the diets supplemented with α-LA were significantly higher than those fed the control diet without α-LA, regardless of dietary lipid percentage. The α-LA significantly increased lipid accumulation in the whole body and hepatopancreas in a dose-dependent manner. Crabs fed 13% lipid showed a significantly higher hepatosomatic index than those fed 7% lipid. The mRNA expressions of triacylglycerol lipase and intracellular lipase increased with the increase of α-LA concentration in crabs fed 7% lipid. No significant difference was found in the CPT-1 mRNA expression among all treatments. The α-LA supplementation at 1400 mg/kg significantly improved oxidative stress due to lipid accumulation in the hepatopancreas of crabs fed 7% lipid as indicated by the high activity of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase and a low level of malondialdehyde. The diet with 13% lipid increased the lipid content in the hepatopancreas but suppressed glutathione peroxidase. Meanwhile, the total antioxidant capacity increased with the increase of α-LA concentration in crabs fed 13% lipid. This study indicates that α-LA supplementation can improve growth performance and accelerate lipid accumulation in the hepatopancreas by increasing lipid utilization efficiency. Furthermore, α-LA can relieve hepatopancreas oxidative damage induced by lipid accumulation and improve the health of E. sinensis
