Enhanced in-plane magnetic anisotropy in thermally treated arrays of Co-Pt nanowires
Ordered arrays of CoxPt100-x cylindrical nanowires (NWs) with x = 90, 80, 70 were synthesized by template-assisted electrodeposition using nanoporous alumina membranes of 55 nm pore diameter. The obtained NWs alloys crystallize in hcp and/or fcc structures, depending on the composition and thermal treatment, resulting in different magnetic behaviors. The magnetic anisotropy was studied as a function of composition and crystalline structure in as-deposited and annealed samples. An enhanced coercivity was obtained for the Co70Pt30 NWs array, in which in-plane anisotropy (e.g., perpendicular to the NWs axis) was found. These characteristics have not been reported for NWs of this kind. A simplified model of effective anisotropy including shape, magnetostatic interaction and magnetocrystalline contributions is presented, which appropriately describes the magnetic behavior of the CoxPt100-x NWs arrays before and after annealing.Fil: Meneses, Fernando. Nanohilos ferromagnéticos : preparación y propiedades físico-químicas

Facultad de Matemática, Astronomía, Física y Computación, 2020.En esta tesis sintetizamos y caracterizamos nanohilos ferromagnéticos para comprender los procesos físicos y químicos que determinan sus propiedades magnéticas, estructurales y electroquímicas. Trabajamos con arreglos ordenados de nanohilos metálicos fabricados en membranas de alúmina porosa por la técnica de electrodeposición. La hipótesis de partida es que el confinamiento a una dimensión puede cambiar significativamente las propiedades del material, un salto cualitativo además de cuantitativo. Como eje central elegimos trabajar con sistemas de nanohilos basados en níquel y planteamos varios objetivos específicos que involucran el material en su estado puro y también aleaciones ferromagnéticas con otros metales: Ni-Fe, Ni-Pd y Ni-Pt. Adicionalmente, estudiamos la aleación Co-Pt, con mayor anisotropía magnética que Ni-Pt.Ferromagnetic nanowires were synthesized and characterized in order to gain understanding of the physical and chemical processes that determine their magnetic, structural and electrochemical properties. The two-step anodization technique was employed to build alumina templates and the nanowires were grown by electrodeposition. The starting hypothesis was that the unidimensional confinement may change significantly the material’s properties, leading to qualitative transformations besides quantitative improvements. Nickel-based nanowires were chosen as the central theme and different specific objectives were studied, involving the pure material and its alloys with other metals: Ni-Fe, Ni-Pd and Ni-Pt. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variación de las propiedades magnéticas y estructurales de nanohilos de Ni en función de su diámetro

Instituto de Física Enrique Gaviola; Argentina.Se estudiaron las propiedades de histéresis magnética de arreglos ordenados de nanohilos de Ni, electrodepositados éstos en una membrana de alúmina con un arreglo hexagonal de poros cilíndricos. Se analizó el efecto de la geometría de los nanohilos individuales (diámetro y longitud) y del ordenamiento y porosidad del arreglo sobre la coercitividad y la remanencia del conjunto. Las membranas de alúmina auto-ensambladas se sintetizaron por anodizado en dos pasos, usando una celda electroquímica y potencial eléctrico constante. Se variaron los diámetros de poro entre 20 nm y 40 nm (no así la distancia media entre ellos) sumergiendo las membranas en ácido fosfórico al 5 % durante distintos tiempos. Estas membranas se caracterizaron por microscopía de barrido (SEM). Los nanohilos de Ni se obtuvieron por electrodeposición AC, a 20 V, 200 Hz y temperatura ambiente. Una vez sintetizados, los arreglos de nanohilos se caracterizaron estructuralmente por SEM y magnéticamente usando un SQUID. Se observa que las propiedades magnéticas de los arreglos son fuertemente dependientes de la relación largo / diámetro de los nanohilos,la que regula el valor de su anisotropía de forma, y también de la porosidad, que determina la magnitud del campo de interacción dipolar que percibe cada nanohilo por la presencia de sus vecinos en el arreglo.The hysteresis properties of ordered arrays of Ni nanowires, electrodeposited into cylindrical nanoporous alumina membranes were in-vestigated. The effect of the nanowire geometry (diameter and length), the array order and the nanowires’ volume fraction on the array coercivity and remanence were analyzed. Porous alumina membranes were produced by a two-step anodization process in a potentiostatic electrochemical cell. The pores’ diameters were varied from 20 nm to 40 nm by immersing the membranes in a 5 % phosphoric acid solution for different times. The membranes were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and both the pore size distribution as well as their separation were determined. These membranes were used as templates for the AC electrodeposition of Ni nanowires, using a voltage of 20V and a frequency of 200 Hz, at room temperature. The Ni nanowire arrays were structurally and magnetically characterized by SEM and with a SQUID magnetometer, respectively, at room temperature. It was found that the magnetic properties of the array strongly depend on the nanowires aspect ratio - length/diameter ratio- which regulates the wire shape anisotropy and also on the porosity,which determines the magnitude of the dipolar interaction field acting on the array.Fil: Meneses, Fernando. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
