Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Ethics & Philosophy of Technolog
Increasing Competitiveness of Graduates Through Professional Integrity
Lordello, R. Increasing Competitiveness of Graduates through Professional Integrity. Bachelor Thesis. Brno: Mendel University. This thesis seeks to understand how universities can influence students' employability by promoting academic and professional integrity. The research for this thesis was performed in both Brazil and the Czech Republic, and the main goal is to provide recommendations for Mendel University and the Federal University of São Carlos that will enhance students' competitiveness through building a culture of professional and academic integrity. The data was collected through two online questionnaires in Portuguese and English language. One questionnaire was directed to students from the mentioned universities (n=123), and the other one was directed to employers in both countries (n=50). The research findings shows that professional integrity indeed is a factor taken into consideration during a hiring process and will influence the candidate's competitiveness

The guiding research question is how to read the political violence in the Southern Cone authors who write texts for children. To test some answers, we will take as theoretical tools the studies addressing memory conducted by Elizabeth Jelin (2002) and Rossana Nofal’s hypothesis that the horror of Argentina’s military dictatorship is communicable through kids fiction. This work is a continuation of a study that focused on the texts by authors of Argentinian children’s literature. We propose to expand boundaries and explore texts for children by Uruguayan author Mauricio Rosencof to advance their ways of telling the concentration experience
This paper aims to revise the figure of the illustrator in the eighties based on the analysis of several texts from two major collections of end of the decade. The review of this period begins by considering the interest of the publishing market in the field of children´s literature and the displacement of modes of the image as a key precedent for positioning the illustrator as author in the following decades. The counterpoint between image and text helps to show how illustration motivates and makes the reading experience more complex.Fil: Garcia, Laura Rafaela. Citizen science at the roots and as the future of forensic genetic genealogy
Forensic genetic genealogy is an emergent forensic technology that employs databases used by citizens to upload genetic data voluntarily to search for criminal suspects and/or unidentified individuals. Considering a wide view of the roots of forensic genetic genealogy, in this article, I draw on publicly available interviews with key stakeholders in the field, media articles, and companies’ statements to analyze how this technology is both grounded and based upon citizen science. That is, a type of science to which citizens actively, voluntarily, and consentingly contribute in various forms. On the one hand, I show how the emergence of forensic genetic genealogy is mainly based upon the work of individuals with a personal interest in genetic genealogy, who are heavily invested in constructing their own and others’ family trees. That is, citizens from various educational backgrounds and professional activities who became an untapped source of valuable expertise for forensic science because of their prolific experience in conducting genetic genealogy. On the other hand, I argue that the current situation of forensic genetic genealogy is also highly dependent on citizens’ interest and willingness to upload genetic data into publicly accessible genealogy databases and voluntarily deciding to make them available to law enforcement searches. Perceiving citizen science as being at the roots and as the future of forensic genetic genealogy has important implications for the forensic epistemic culture and the protection of citizens’ rights that must be considered in the development and implementation of such technology. The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: This

A Study of the Effect of Halloysite-Reinforcement on the Dynamic Behaviour of Polyurethane
Polyurethanes (PU) are commonly used in transparent armor systems to increase the survivability, blast resistance, multi-hit resistance and fragment containment of multilayered systems. The high tensile-ductility, fracture toughness and self-healing ability are key factors that determine the performance of polyurethanes under high-strain rate conditions. However, so far it is not clear how the macromolecular structural features influence the failure mechanism of PU under dynamic loading conditions. Here, Halloysite nanotubes-reinforced polyurethane nanocomposites are produced that dramatically improve the macromolecular structure's ability to resist fracture. A low content of Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) (maximum 0.8 wt.%) was introduced in the polyurethane to investigate the effect of the nanotubes on the resultant micro-domain morphological architecture. Gas-gun spall testing results showed an increase of 35% in spall strength and 21% fracture toughness for the nanocomposite. Subsequent characterization results show present the influence of the HNTs to alter the resultant hard domain spherulitic structure, which leads to a more energy dissipative fracture mechanism characterized by a rougher fracture surface with highly deformed interspherulitic regions. Analysis of the free-surface velocity histories, combined with fractographies of the spalled surfaces provides information about the failure mechanism and fracture kinetics. The spherulites present a brittle fracture character, while the interspherulitic regions present a ductile behaviour with large deformation. Ballistic testing on multilayered glass/polymer plates (transparent armour configuration) results showed an increase in the ballistic limit, from 457 to 491 m/s, with the change from a neat polyurethane interlayer to the nanocomposite. A higher degree of phase separation was detected within the structure of the nanocomposite, indicating that the presence of the HNTs increases the chemical incompatibility of the hard and soft segments of the polyurethane. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to further investigate the effect of HNTs on the immiscibility and mobility of the segmented structure of the polyurethane. These results demonstrate that the significant improvement in the ballistic performance of the nanocomposite interlayers were not due to the small concentration of HNTs acting as simple reinforcing phase, but rather their influence in the formation of the micro-structure of the matrix polymer
