An optimized neural network for monitoring key performance indicators in HSDPA

    No full text
HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is drawing great attention as the 3.5G technology capable of providing higher data rate packet switch services over Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) to support broadband services like multimedia conferencing, VoIP, or high-speed internet access. The paper proposes the use of a Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) Neural Network able to estimate the quality of service (QoS) across analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and to provide automatically a possible classification of warnings related to the load status of HSDPA radio resources or to the bad radio channel quality condition. ©2010 IEEE

Performance analysis and enhancements for IEEE 802.11e wireless networks

    No full text
This article is posted here with persmission from IEEE - Copyright @ 2005 IEEEThe IEEE 802.11 WLAN legacy standard cannot provide QoS support for multimedia applications. Thus, considerable research efforts have been carried out to enhance QoS support for 802.11. Among them, 802.11e is the upcoming QoSenhanced standard proposed by the IEEE working group. This article describes in detail the new QoS features of 802.11e based on the latest version of the standard draft. We investigate the performance of 802.11e through computer simulations. Using simple examples, we show the effectiveness of adaptive schemes under the 802.11e framework. This work was supported in part by the French National Telecommunication Research Project (VTHD++) and Science Foundation Ireland WLAN Project (grant no. 03/IN3/I396

Copyright @ 2004 IEEEA method is presented for finding the optimum fixed LC compensator for power factor correction of nonlinear loads where both source voltage and load current harmonics are present. The LC combination is selected because pure capacitive capacitors alone would not sufficiently correct the power factor. Optimization minimizes the transmission loss, maximizes the power factor, and maximizes the efficiency. The performance of the obtained compensator is discussed by means of numerical examples

Wireless broadband access: WiMAX and beyond - Investigation of bandwidth request mechanisms under point-to-multipoint mode of WiMAX networks

    No full text
The WiMAX standard specifies a metropolitan area broadband wireless access air interface. In order to support QoS for multimedia applications, various bandwidth request and scheduling mechanisms are suggested in WiMAX, in which a subscriber station can send request messages to a base station, and the base station can grant or reject the request according to the available radio resources. This article first compares two fundamental bandwidth request mechanisms specified in the standard, random access vs. polling under the point-to-multipoint mode, a mandatory transmission mode. Our results demonstrate that random access outperforms polling when the request rate is low. However, its performance degrades significantly when the channel is congested. Adaptive switching between random access and polling according to load can improve system performance. We also investigate the impact of channel noise on the random access request mechanism
