Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
[Angiodysplasia of the duodenum with arteriovenous shunts, sub-serosal prevalence and interstitial elastosis; peritonitis and rupture of sub-serous dysplasic vessels and hemoperitoneum. Description of a case and review of the literature].
We present a case report of a 74 year old man, affected by angiodysplasia of the duodenum, which developed in peritonitis and hemoperitoneum. After undergoing two surgical interventions, it is 14 days since he died. First of all, the importance of this case is due to the extreme rarity of the angiodysplasia of the duodenum, specially when it becomes worse in peritonitis and hemoperitoneum, this case having been described only one time till now, then the localization mainly sub-serousal and lastly the presence of a component, characterized by an elastotic nature, disposed in islets and interstitial widespread also among the glands, which we have first described in literature
Tenascin expression in elastotic cuffs of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast
We studied immunohistochemically one thousand one hundred and thirty-seven cases of primary invasive breast cancers (NST) and adjacent normal mammary glands for tenascin expression, and compared their elastic content to verify if a relationship exists between tenascin expression and elastosis. Periductal, perivascular and stromal elastosis were graded on a scale from 0 to 3 (absent to massive). All carcinomas showed tenascin expression and elastosis with various histological appearances. In the adjacent breast, teanscon was distributed around the normal ducts or with extasia and uctal hyperplasia without atypia. Digestion of the sections with elastase prior to staining resulted in a loss of the specific staining reactions in all areas where elastosis was present. Tenascin staining was observed in the mesenchyme closely surrounding the neoplastic ducts and the cancer cell nests. Stromal tenascin staining appeared stronger in those carcinomas that exhibited marked desmoplastic reactions. The highly differentiated tumours contained more elastosis in their tumour tissue than the poorly differentiated ones, whereas tenascin expression was stronger in poorly differentiated tumours than well differentiated tumours. A strong staining for tenascin was observed in the elastotic cuff. Tenascin staining did not disappear afterwards with elastase. We did not find a statistically significant correlation between tenascin expression, elastosis and prognostic factors such as size of the tumour, lymph node metastasis, tumour necrosis and age. In our study tenascin proved to be an additional element in elastotic areas even though the significance of an association between elastosis and tenascin is still unkown, as is that of elastosis itself

FADER: Fast Adversarial Example Rejection
Deep neural networks are vulnerable to adversarial examples, i.e., carefully-crafted inputs that mislead classification at test time. Recent defenses have been shown to improve adversarial robustness by detecting anomalous deviations from legitimate training samples at different layer representations - a behavior normally exhibited by adversarial attacks. Despite technical differences, all aforementioned methods share a common backbone structure that we formalize and highlight in this contribution, as it can help in identifying promising research directions and drawbacks of existing methods. The first main contribution of this work is the review of these detection methods in the form of a unifying framework designed to accommodate both existing defenses and newer ones to come. In terms of drawbacks, the overmentioned defenses require comparing input samples against an oversized number of reference prototypes, possibly at different representation layers, dramatically worsening the test-time efficiency. Besides, such defenses are typically based on ensembling classifiers with heuristic methods, rather than optimizing the whole architecture in an end-to-end manner to better perform detection. As a second main contribution of this work, we introduce FADER, a novel technique for speeding up detection-based methods. FADER overcome the issues above by employing RBF networks as detectors: by fixing the number of required prototypes, the runtime complexity of adversarial examples detectors can be controlled. Our experiments outline up to 73× prototypes reduction compared to analyzed detectors for MNIST dataset, up to 50× for CIFAR10 dataset, and up to 82× on ImageNet10 dataset respectively, without sacrificing classification accuracy on both clean and adversarial data
Pretreatment scalene node biopsy in cervical carcinoma
To evaluate incidence of scalene node metastases from carcinoma of the cervix, 20 patients had scalene fat-pad node biopsy. All cases were staged according to FIGO criteria and abdominal lymph nodes were studied by CT and lymphangiography. Scalene node metastases were found in 2 patients with clinically suspicious node and pelvic and paraaortic nodes involvement. Seven patients had sinus histiocytosis in scalene node biopsy and this seems related to a more favourable prognosis. From this study it appears that scalene node biopsy is not a routine procedure and should be performed in all patients with palpable supraclavicular masses or when paraortic nodes are involved
Benign tumors of heterotopic tissue in the thyroid gland: a report of two cases of lipomatous lesions
A report of two cases, concerning heterotopic nests of fat cells in the thyroid gland, is presented here together with a review of lipomatous lesions in the literature. Both cases involved patients who presented with goiter; one had Grave's disease and the other had adenomatous hyperplasia. The fat cells were principally located in the subcapsular areas and scattered among the follicles. The distribution of the immunohistochemical staining, and the morphologic characteristics of the adipose tissue, suggested a probable origin of the fat cells from inclusion nests during embryogenesis of the thyroid gland
Oral focal mucinosis of the tongue
Oral focal mucinosis (OFM) is an uncommon clinicopathological entity which is considered to be the oral counterpart of cutaneous focal mucinosis and cutaneous myxoid cyst. It is comprised of a clinically elevated mass with a histological feature of localised areas of myxomatous connective tissue. The present study adds a rare case of OFM of the tongue to the literature, and we present a review of the most characteristic oral myxomatous lesions
