No full textTruly wearable, fully flexible, and multiparametric sweat analysis with soft and socially discrete packaging offers tremendous potential to enable the next generation of noninvasive digital biomarkers analysis. Several examples of miniaturized potentiometric ion-selective electrodes have been proposed. However, several challenges remain unsolved concerning their long-term stability due to variations in physical sweat parameters. We hypothesize that the simultaneous monitoring of such parameters (e.g., skin-surface temperature, sweat rate, and pH) may pave the way for accurate and robust sweat biomarker analysis. Therefore, we propose a flexible multiparameter sensory interface fabricated on Kapton polyimide foil with high-resolution inkjet printing using silver nanoparticles. A facile controlled drop-casting of a custom synthesized ion-selective membrane ensures the selectivity of the biosensing. Next, we interfaced the fabricated sensory array with a custom-designed compact flexible biosignals conditioning embedded system, which enables system calibration, data processing, and wireless data transmission to a smartphone device. Later, we validate the proposed system in simultaneous sweat multi-ion (K+ and Na+) and skin-surface temperature recording. After that, we characterize the system by embedding the smart medical bracelet in a soft microfluidic platform to mimic in situ analysis on the body. Overall, the reported results represent the fundamental evidence proof for the development of the wearable multimodal sweat parameter analyzer
Implantable Biosensor for Brain Dopamine using Microwire-Based Electrodes
No full textThis paper systematically demonstrates the feasibility of wirelessly monitoring dopamine concentration in the brain with an implantable biosensor. The biosensor was realized using microwires, and then, the dopamine concentration was measured in-vitro ranging from 0.3 μM to 2 μM, corresponding to the physio-pathological concentration range in human brain. The obtained results were used to design and optimise a full-custom CMOS sensor interface for in-vivo dopamine monitoring. The key component of this interface is a potentiostat with a maximum power consumption of 10.24 μW in a 10 kHz sampling frequency. The CMOS interface automatically subtracts the background current up to 2.34 μA. The obtained sensitivity in dopamine detection has been evaluated in 150 μA/μM, with a Limit of Detection (LoD) of 33 nM, thus being suitable for dopamine monitoring in human brain.SCI-STI-S

Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

New Sensory Method for Neural Activity by Frequency Upconversion with Non-Linear Element
No full textTraditional analog front-ends for biomedical signal acquisitions operate at very low frequencies (Hz-range) and are severely affected by flicker and environmental noise, which degrade the quality of low-frequency signals, thereby reducing the signal-to-noise ratio. While offering advantages, the increasingly common use of microelectrodes poses challenges due to their low-frequency high impedance, which is comparable to the one of the front-end, thus creating additional difficulties in signal acquisition. To tackle the challenges of in-vitro low-frequency biosignal acquisition, this paper proposes a novel methodology based on the upconversion of low-frequency biosignals to a higher frequency band by a Schottky diode immersed in a solution. This work aims to demonstrate the feasibility of the new sensory method by translating in frequency the information of a sinewave stimulus representing a biological signal. Experimental results showed a conversion loss of 11.11 dB and demonstrated the upconverted signal propagation in the solution, measuring an intermodulation power above the noise floor, from −87.04 dBm to −104.13 dBm. The proposed method provides a better signal-to-noise ratio than the traditional acquisition method, estimating an improvement of 8.99 dB

No full textThe central theme of this volume is the work of Sabahattin Ali, the Turkish author and translator from German into Turkish who achieved posthumous success with his novel Kürk Mantolu Madonna (The Madonna in the Fur Coat). Our contributors analyze this novel, which takes place largely in Germany, and several other texts by Ali in the context of world literature, (cultural) translation, and intertextuality. Their articles go far beyond the intercultural love affair that has typically dominated the discussion of Madonna. Other articles consider Zafer Şenocak’s essay collection Deutschsein and transcultural learning through picture books. An interview with Selim Özdoğan rounds out the issue.Im Mittelpunkt dieses Bandes steht das Werk des türkischen Autors und Übersetzers aus dem Deutschen Sabahattin Ali, der mit seinem Roman Kürk Mantolu Madonna (Die Madonna im Pelzmantel) zu posthumem Ruhm gelangte. Der Roman, der zum Großteil in Deutschland spielt, und andere seiner Werke werden unter Aspekten der Weltliteratur, (kultureller) Übersetzung und Intertextualität diskutiert.
