In riot
Many scholars and historians have professed that America’s “original sin” is slavery and that the nation has moved slowly, and at times stubbornly, towards repentance and atonement for this sin. Even after the emancipation of blacks in America, the scars of racism remain. Throughout the centuries, there have been a number of slave revolts, rebellions and race riots that have reddened America’s soil. In Riot is a volume of poetry that examines these riots, most specifically the race riots of the 20th century from the 1906 riot of Atlanta to the 1992 LA riots. The events of these riots are told through the voice of a collective “We,” which may be interpreted as the voice of a people who participated or suffered in these riots. Martin Luther King said, “A riot is the language of the unheard.” But in In Riot we hear their actual thoughts and justifications for rebellion. Each riot is dealt with in its own section but pieced together to create a long narrative or “epic” poem. Each section opens with a brief overview of the time and place the riots occurred. The reader is then introduced to a number of characters who help tell the story; some of these characters are actual historical figures that played a central role in the riot or its causes. The second section of the volume deals with other issues of race and racism in America from injustices of the criminal justice system to poverty, gentrification and the destructive nature of dangerous stereotypes in the media and popular culture of black violence and criminality.M.F.A.by Malik Abdul-Jabbaa
İmam Malik ve Muvatta adlı eseri
İlmi yöntemlere göre hazırladığımız bu tezimizde Türkiye'de, İslam dünyasında ve Batıda yapılan İslami araştırmalarda sıkça müracaat edilen kaynaklardan biri olan Muvatta adlı hadis kitabı ile müellifini inceledik. Araştırmamız, bir giriş , iki bölüm ve sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde: araştırma konusunun çerçevesi çizilmiş, araştırmada sıkça başvurulan kaynaklar tanıtılmış, ilk asırlarda hadis tedvini hareketi ve ilk musannifler ile eserleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Tezimizin birinci bölümünde ilk olarak İmam Malik'in teferruatlı biyografisi verildikten sonra hadis öğrenimi, ilmi şahsiyeti, hocaları, öğrencileri, ahlaki özellikleri, alimlerin kendisi hakkındaki kanaat ve övgüleri, eserleri ve vefatı ayrıntılı bir şekilde işlenmiştir. İkinci olarak ise, İmam Malik'in Muvatta' adlı eseri ele alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda kitabın ismi, telifi, özellikleri, ilmi değeri, ravileri, rivayet nüshaları ve etrafındaki nüshalar üzerinde durulmuştur. Tezimizin ikinci bölümünde ise, Muvatta'ın muhtevası ve İmam Malik'in Muvatta'daki metodu araştırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda birincileyin Muvatta'ın hadis muhtevası ve İmam Malik'in Muvatta'daki hadis metodu üzerinde durulmuştur. İkincileyin, Muvatta'ın fıkıh muhtevası ve İmam Malik'in Muvatta'daki metodu incelenmiştir. Araştırmamızın sonuç kısmında ise, ilmi usullere göre hazırladığımız tezimizle ulaştığımız neticeleri özetledik. İmam Malik ve eseri hakkındaolarak şunu diyebiliriz: Muvatta, İmam Malik'in üstünlüğünü gösteren bir eser olup Medine fıkhının önemli ve sağlam bir kaynağıdır. Onu İslam Kültürünün ebedi bir şaheseri olarak nitelendirmek yanlış olmaz. In this scientifically prepared thesis, we examined hadith book called Muvatta which is one of the most populer source of islamic researches in Turkey, in Muslim World and in Europe and we examined its author. Our research is made up of an introduction, two parts and a conclusion. In introduction part, framework of the research is shaped, frequently used sources are acquainted , knowledge about hadith recording moments , first authors and written- works of first author are given. In the first part of our thesis, first of all detailed biography of Imam Malik is given, after that his hadith education, knowledge personality, his teachers, students, his moral characteristics, opinions and eulogies of omniscients to him, his writen- work and his death are given. And for the second part we examined write-work of Imam Malik called Muvatta. Name of the book, its publication, its knowledge value, its transmitters and tranmission copies that surrounds it are examined in detail. In the second part, content of Muvatta and method of Imam Malik for Muvatta are examined. In that contextual, first hadith content and hadith method of Imam Malik in Muvatta is examined and than moslem canonical jurisprudence content and Imam Malik's method in Muvatta is examined in detail. In conclusion we summarized the result of our thesis. In brief we can say about Imam Malik and his written-work : Muvatta is an important written-work which show the superiority of Imam Malik and important source in Medine moslem canonical jurisprudence. We can say, it is a brilliant eternal written- work for islamic culture

Penanaman nilai-nilai religius di Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

Nilai-nilai religius yang bersumber dari agama saat ini telah sedikit demi sedikit mengalami pengikisan. Perlu selalu adanya penanaman nilai-nilai religius, terlebih pada pendidikan ditingkat mahasiswa. Diharapkan mampu untuk mengatasi berbagai kebutuhan yang terjadi di masyarakat, Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang merupakan bagian dari pendidikan tinggi yang menanamkan nilai�nilai religius. Keberlangsungan penanaman nilai-nilai religius yang dilaksanakan universitas menjadi ciri khas tersendiri. Penanaman inilah yang perlu adanya keberlanjutan selama sebagai mahasiswa UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Sehingga dapat menjadi lulusan intelek-profesional yang ulama.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk: (1) untuk mengetahui serta mendeskripsikan tujuan penanaman nilai-nilai religius yang ada di Unit Kegiatan mahasiswa (UKM) Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, (2) untuk mengetahui
materi-materi pada penanaman nilai-nilai religius di Unit Kegiatan mahasiswa (UKM) Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, (3) untuk mengetahui serta mendeskripsikan langkah-langkah penanaman nilai-nilai religius yang ada di Unit Kegiatan mahasiswa (UKM) Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.
Untuk mencapai tujuan diatas, digunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian lapangan (field research) yaitu: suatu penelitian yang dilakukan secara sistematis dengan mengangkat data yang ada di lapangan. Metode pengumpulan data observasi lapangan, wawancara, dokumentasi. Sedangkan untuk analisisnya, penulis menggunakan analisis data Miles dan Huberman yaitu reduksi data (data reduction), penyajian data (data display), kesimpulan (conclution drawing).
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, (1) Penanaman nilai-nilai religius di UKM Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, memiliki tujuan untuk meningkatkan keimanan, meningkatkan ibadah serta akhlak dari anggota UKM, (2) Materi yang diberikan mengikuti sesuai program kerja yang ada di UKM Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, (3) Langkah yang dilakukan oleh pengurus UKM dengan melakukan pengenalan dan pengetahuan. Kemudian timbul peraasan menerima sehingga dapat bertindak secara sadar sesuai dengan nilai-nilai religius yang ditanamkan. Langkah-langkah ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sebuah keteladanan dan pembiasaan kepada anggota agar tertanam nilai-nilai religius.

Religious values derived from religion today have gradually undergone erosion. It is always necessary to instill religious values, especially in education at the student level. Expected to be able to overcome various needs that occur in society, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) Malang is part of higher education that instills religious values. The continuity of the cultivation of religious values carried out by universities is a characteristic in itself. This cultivation is what needs to be sustainable while as a student of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. So that it can become a graduate of the intellect-professional who is a scholar.
The purpose of this study is to: (1) to find out and describe the purpose of cultivation religious values in the student activity unit (UKM) of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang, (2) to find out the materials on the cultivation of religious values in the student activity unit (UKM) of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang, (3) to find out and describe the steps of cultivation religious values in the Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Maulana State Islamic University Malik Ibrahim Malang
To achieve the above objectives, a qualitative research approach is used with the type of field research (field research), namely: a study that is carried out systematically by raising the data in the field. Methods of data collection of field observations, interviews, documentation. As for the analysis, the author uses Miles and Huberman's data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation (display data), conclusions (conclution drawing).
The results showed that, (1) The cultivation of religious values in SMEs, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang, has the aim of increasing faith, increasing worship and morals of UKM members, (2) 2) The material provided follows the work program at THE MAULANA Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University UKM Malang, (3) The steps taken by the UKM management by introducing and knowledge. Then comes the feeling of accepting so that it can act consciously in accordance with the religious values instilled. These measures aim to provide an example and habituation to members to embed religious values

القيم الدينية الناشئة عن الدين اليوم تتآكل تدريجياً. من الضروري تنمية القيم الدينية دائمًا ، خاصة في التعليم على مستوى الطلاب. ترجى أن تكفي الاحتياجات المختلفة التي تحدث في المجتمع ، جامعة مولانا مالك إبراهيم الحكومية الإسلامية الحكومية مالانج هي جزء من التعليم العالي الذي ينمي القيم الدينية. يعتبر استمرار تنمية القيم الدينية في الجامعة سمة مميزة. هذه التنمية هي التي تحتاج إلى الاستمرار بينما كان طالبًا في جامعة مولانا مالك إبراهيم الإسلامية الحكومية مالانج. حتى يتمكنوا أن يصبحوا الخريجين الفكريين والمهنيين العلماء.
أهداف هذا البحث هي: (1) لمعرفة ووصف هدف تنمية القيم الدينية في وحدة النشاط الطلابي في جامعة مولانا مالك إبراهيم الإسلامية الحكومية مالانج ، (2) لوصف مواد تنمية القيم الدينية في وحدة النشاط الطلابي في جامعة مولانا مالك إبراهيم الإسلامية الحكومية مالانج ، (3) لمعرفة ووصف خطوات تنمية القيم الدينية في وحدة النشاط الطلابي في جامعة مولانا مالك إبراهيم الإسلامية الحكومية مالانج.
لتحقيق الأهداف المذكورة أعلاه ، يتم استخدام مدخل البحث الكيفي بنوع البحث الميداني ، وهو: البحث الذي يتم إجراؤه بشكل منهجي من خلال جمع البيانات في الميدان. طرق جمع البيانات هي الملاحظة الميدانية والمقابلة والتوثيق. وأما للتحليل ، استخدم الباحث تحليل بيانات مايلز وهوبرمان أي تقليل البيانات وعرض البيانات والاستنتاج.
وأظهرت النتائج أن (1) تنمية القيم الدينية في جامعة مولانا مالك إبراهيم الإسلامية الحكومية مالانج تهدف إلى زيادة الإيمان وزيادة العبادة والأخلاق لأعضاء وحدة النشاط الطلابي ، (2) المواد المعطاة لتنمية القيم الدينية لا تختلف كثيرًا عن المواد الدينية التي يتم تدريسها في المواد الدينية ، (3) الخطوات التي يقوم بها منظم وحدة النشاط الطلابي من خلال الاجتماع لإعداد البرنامج الديني ، ثم يعقد التنسيق أثناء إعداد مفهوم برنامج العمل الديني المعد. يعقد الإعداد ونشر المعلومات المتعلقة بوقت ومكان النشاط قبل يوم التنفيذ. تهدف هذه الخطوات إلى تقديم المثال والممارسة على الأعضاء لكي يتم تضمين القيم الدينية
Analisis gaya kepemimpinan dalam meningkatkan kinerja pegawai Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang
ABSTRAK
Perkembangan kehidupan dunia secara umum, mendorong manusia untuk menuju pada era globalisasi yang semakin menuntut adanya peningkatan standart tatanan dalam berbagai hal.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian diskriptif, dengan pendekatan kualitatif, data yang digunakan adalah data primer dan sekunder, dengan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan metode analisis datanya menggunakan analisis deskriptif, karena pada penelitian ini penulis mendiskripsikan gaya kepemimpinan dan kinerja pegawai pada fakultas ekonomi UIN Malang.
Hasil penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa Gaya kepemimpinan di Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibahim Malang adalah gaya kepemimpinan selling karena dalam fakultas ekonomi tugasnya sangat tinggi dan hubungannya juga sangat tinggi dan piminan selalu memberi pengarahan dan menjelaskan hasil keputusan. Dan juga gaya kepemimpinan di fakultas ekonomi sangat sesuai dengan konsep islam karena kepemimpinannya mengedepankan hubungan yang baik dan keteladanan yang tinggi dan tugas yang sangat maksimal dan optimal.
Kinerja pegawai pada Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang dapat dikatakan memenuhi kriterian sebagai pegawai yang baik, karena para pegawai selama ini telah melaksanakan sesuai job disciption masing-masing dan mereka juga bekerja sesuai standar kualitas, kuantitas dan standart waktu yang telah ditetapkan oleh fakultas. akan tetapi dalam hal kedisiplinan waktu kerja masih harus diperlukan perhatian lebih serius. Hal ini terlihat pada data yang diperoleh peneliti.
ABSTRACT
The development of the world life in general, encourages people to go in the era of globalization which is increasingly demanding an increase in the standard order of things.
This research is a descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, the data used are primary and secondary data, the interview data collection techniques, used are observation and documentation, while the method of data analysis is a descriptive analysis because in this study the author describes the leadership style and performance of staff at the Faculty economic Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang.
The results showed that the style of leadership in the Faculty of Economics Maulana Malik Ibrahim state Islamic university of Malang was “Telling” leadership style because there are many duties in the Economics Faculty and the social relation is so wide, therefore leaders always give directions and explanation based on the decision made. The leadership style in this Faculty also matches with the concept of Islam because of his leadership to promote good relations and to be able to do high ideals and tasks maximally and optimally.
Performance of staff in the Faculty of Economics Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang can be said to meet the criterian as good staff, because the employees had been conducting appropriate job, and also work as standard quality, quantity and time standards determined by the faculty. Optics and theory of vision in the Kitāb nūr al-'uyūn wa-jāmi' al-funūn: critical edition, translation and comment of the second maqāla
Science changes constantly. Most of the time, progress involves minor issues or specific elements of inquiry. Much more rarely, instead, the foundational paradigms evolve, entailing processes of conceptual re-elaboration which re-define the disciplines anew. Let us consider optics. The re-definition of the discipline as the physics of light is quite recent. Throughout Antiquity and the Middle Ages, its status was completely different. Optics was in fact conceived as the science of vision, the eye being its primary element of investigation, rather than light. Such a paradigmatic link warranted a special connection between optics and medicine, namely with ophthalmology. The medieval Arabic production in this field is a case in point inasmuch as the lion’s share of its texts usually presents a section devoted to optics. Within this tradition, deeply influenced by the ancient Greek legacy, the Kitāb nūr al-ʿuyūn wa-ǧāmiʿ al-funūn stands out. Contrary to a standard, unoriginal treatment of the ophthalmological issues, the contents, sources, and general setup of its second maqāla, entirely devoted to optical matters, is as peculiar as to make this work a unicum in the field of medieval Arabic ophthalmology. Centered on the examination of this section, this study aims to produce a critical edition thereof, integrated with an annotated translation. Before that, a contextualization of the Kitāb nūr al-ʿuyūn wa-ǧāmiʿ al-funūn is provided in Chapter One. The first paragraph introduces the work regarding its main contents, setup, and approach. A brief overview concerning the state of the art on the Kitāb nūr al-ʿuyūn wa-ǧāmiʿ al-funūn is presented afterwards. The second paragraph focuses on the second maqāla, which is examined upon the background of the Arabic medieval literary production on ophthalmology. By means of retracing models and patterns regarding the treatment of optical matters within the most famous works in the field, the uniqueness of the maqāla is established. The third paragraph deals with diagrams, pivotal elements of Euclidean geometrical optics. In particular, diagrams are examined with regard to their paleographical-codicological peculiarities, in order to shed some light upon issues relating to the material culture, as well as to investigate how diagrams interact with the leaf and the mathematical content they refer to. The fourth paragraph is reserved to the author of the Kitāb nūr al-ʿuyūn wa-ǧāmiʿ al-funūn, Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyā b. Abī al-Raǧāʾ. This section is structured as an attempt at sketching a biographical profile of the author of the treatise. Chapter Two focuses on the manuscript witnesses of the Kitāb nūr al-ʿuyūn wa-ǧāmiʿ al-funūn, which are thoroughly analyzed with regard to their codicological and paleographical characteristics. In Chapter Three, the critical edition and annotated translation of the second maqāla are provided. Three Appendices conclude the study. Appendix I is devoted to diagrams; synoptical tables comparing the lectiones of the lettering and the drawings of manuscripts are presented. Appendix II focuses on bāb 14 of the ninth maqāla, “On strabismus and its cure”; the critical edition of the Arabic text and an annotated translation are provided. Appendix III is a specialized glossary of technical terms relating to the field of optics. Finally, a bibliography is supplied
The Wear Project
When we meet a character in a performance, the implicit understanding is that they have existed until the point where we join their journey and will continue existing after we leave them. Their clothing tells a story to the audience before any words are spoken and before any action takes place. As a Costume Designer and Lecturer, my awareness of costuming as an anthropological practice has led me to explore these principles using myself as the subject of scrutiny. For one year I am logging every clothing combination I go through along with memories, prices, locations and dates etc. in order to explore the clothing decisions I make and the stories, embedded in my clothes, that I am surrounded by every day. What does my wardrobe mean to me inwardly and reveal outwardly to others? How does this ‘me-search’ extend my artistic practice?
The Wear Project will be a visual archive, a teaching tool, and a foundation for further academic research/writing through the questions it raises about design, visual storytelling, memory, dress and audience: a personal interrogation generating a critical framework for understanding the dramaturgical significance of costume.
