    SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES AND CONSUMER PERCEPTIONS IN KOTIPIZZA, MYYRMÄKI

    The thesis investigates the sustainability that Kotipizza Vantaa Myyrmäki implements and the extent to which customers consider these activities in their dining choices. In Finland, the restaurant business integrates sustainability to be one of the most prominent topics, as responsible food production and curbing food waste is in high demand. This study addresses this particular void through the study of a single restaurant and the examination of how such practices impact consumers’ attitudes and behaviours in terms of satisfaction and loyalty. The primary focus of this research is to determine the sustainability practices of the selected Kotipizza Myyrmäki and evaluate their influence on customers’ attitudes and behaviours. The research process was approached methodologically. The management of the restaurant was interviewed to understand the operational activities in the restaurant, and on-site observations allowed to analyse how sustainability was communicated to the customers. The findings show that consumers are partly aware that Kotipizza Myyrmäki promotes environmental protection, although the exact practical measures are not always known. The data suggests that Myyrmäki Kotipizza's customers are positively impressed by the sustainability initiatives. This provides justification for the company to expand messages about their sustainable initiatives and strengthen the importance of sustainability in their service model.     "Niche differentiation is argued as one of the mechanisms explaining species coexistence. Despite their sessile nature, similar resource needs and traits to acquire and utilize resources closely related plant species coexist. I hypothesized that i) spatial distribution of congeneric species would be similar because they are closely related with similar traits and resource needs and ii) each species will perform different biological functions (growth vs. reproduction) optimally at different points along a resource gradient and thereby differentiate their functional niche to ensure coexistence by complementary resource use. I collected data on two congeneric wild blueberry species, Vaccinium angustifolium and V. myrtilloides on occurrence from 13,500 20 x 20 cm quadrates, their growth and reproductive response to light and microhabitat parameters from 360 1 x 1 m quadrates along 90 30 m transects from 5 regions of NW Ontario [Northwestern Ontario]. I also grew these two species in a common garden experiment (CGE) under a shade gradient to test their response to light in competition-free environment. A chi-square test confirmed that V. angustifolium and V. myrtilloides are co-occurring species. Variance partitioning analysis revealed that light is the most important microsite variable. Frequency of occurrence showed their abundance gradually increase from low to high light with high niche overlaps. Regression model fitting of cover (indicating growth) and berry yield (indicating reproduction) along the light gradient provided species functional response curves

    EcRD:Edge-Cloud Computing Framework for Smart Road Damage Detection and Warning

    Road damages have caused numerous fatalities, thus the study of road damage detection, especially hazardous road damage detection and warning is critical for traffic safety. Existing road damage detection systems mainly process data at cloud, which suffers from a high latency caused by long-distance. Meanwhile, supervised machine learning algorithms are usually used in these systems requiring large precisely labeled data sets to achieve a good performance. In this article, we propose EcRD: an edge-cloud-based road damage detection and warning framework, that leverages the fast-responding advantage of edge and the large storage and computation resources advantages of cloud. There are three main contributions in this article: we first propose a simple yet efficient road segmentation algorithm to enable fast and accurate road area detection. Then, a light-weighted road damage detector is developed based on gray level co-occurrence matrix features at edge for rapid hazardous road damage detection and warning. Furthermore, a multitypes road damage detection model is introduced for long-term road management at cloud, embedded with a novel image generator based on cycle-consistent adversarial networks which automatically generates images with labels to further improve road damage detection accuracy. By comparing with the state-of-the-art, we demonstrate that the proposed EcRD can accurately detect both hazardous road damages at edge and multitypes road damages at cloud. Besides, it is around 579 times faster than cloud-based approaches without affecting users' experience and requiring very low storage and labeling cost

    Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Activity on Dinuclear Schiff-base Macrocyclic Metal Complexes

    Schiff-bases and their dinuclear metal complexes have been extensively received special attention because of their wide range of applications including catalysts, medicine crystal engineering, anti-corrosion agent, and biological activities [1]. Dinuclear macrocyclic lead (II) complex, Pb2L1(SCN)4 was synthesized by template condensation of pyridine-2,6-dicarboxaldehyde and 1,2-bis (2-aminoethoxy) ethane in presence of Pb(SCN)2 as the metal source, here L1 is tetra-Schiff-base macrocycle. Transmetallation treatment of Pb2L1(SCN)4 with Co(PF6)2.6H2O produced the new complex, Co2L1(SCN)4 [2]. Reduction of lead (II) complex gave new reduced tetra-Schiff-base macrocyclic ligand, L2[3]. All the metal complexes and ligand were characterized by UV-Visible, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy. The antibacterial activities against some pathogenic gram positive and gram negative bacteria were studied by cylinder disk diffusion method. The complexes were found to inhibit the growth of bacteria
