    No full text
This contribution focuses on the collaboration between Anna Maria Ortese and the independent publisher Beppe Costa, who brought the author back into the publishing market in the 1980s after years of absence. It draws on a selection of unpublished letters written by Ortese to Costa between 1985 and 1986, a period of intense collaboration between the two. The letters highlight their common poetics and reveal their capacity for resilience in the face of the difficulties of everyday life and the literary market

Exposure-Tolerant Imaging Solution forCultural Heritage Monitoring

    No full text
This paper describes a simple and cheap solution specifically designed for monitoring the degradation of thin coatings employed for metal protection. The proposed solution employs a commercial photocamera and a frequency-domain-based approach that is capable of highlighting the surface uniformity changes due to initial corrosion. Even though the proposed solution is specifically designed to monitor the long-time performance of protective coatings employed for the restoration of silver artifacts, it can be successfully used also for assessing the conservation state of other ancient metallic works of art. The proposed solution is made tolerant to exposure changes by using a procedure for sensor nonlinearity identification and correction, does not require a precise lighting control, and employs only free open-source software, so that its overall cost is very low and can be used also by not specifically trained operator

This contribution aims to illustrate some affinities between two Swiss-German writers from two different literary periods: Christian Kracht, a contemporary author particularly appreciated by critics, and Robert Walser, an eclectic writer of the Moderne. After a brief analysis of Kracht’s relationship with his motherland and its culture, the paper will move on to an examination of two ‘exemplary’ works by these authors – the novel Faserland and the ‘Prosastück’ Der Spaziergang –, focusing on highlighting evident similarities between these two texts and in general in the textual poetics and in the construction of authorial identity – in particular with regard to the Selbstinszenierung (self-staging) of the author both in fiction and reality – of these two Swiss writers

GNSS VarioPy: A Comprehensive Tool for Enhancing Early-Warning Systems for Geophysical and Atmospheric Events Through GNSS Permanent Stations Networks

The GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) Variometric Approach first implementation was proposed in 2011 (Colosimo et al., 2011) in the VADASE (Variometric Approach for Displacement Analysis Stand-Alone Engine) algorithm, in the field of GNSS Seismology. At its core, the variometric approach relies on single-epoch differences of dual-frequency phase observations, collected by a stand-alone receiver. Variometric parameters estimates are performed through the sole use of broadcast products, achieving accuracy levels within the millimeters-per-second range. Despite the well-established effectiveness of the Variometric Approach, there has been a lack of a fully comprehensive variometric tool available to the scientific community. This work aims to address this gap by introducing GNSS VarioPy, a Python-based package designed to implement the real-time GNSS Variometric Approach for static and quasi-static applications. GNSS VarioPy is designed to support the streaming of RTCM-3 data through a socket connection to a NTRIP caster, allowing for real-time data collection and processing for permanent station networks and any additional receiver available. Key features of GNSS VarioPy are three dimensional ground velocity field estimation (VADASE) and ionospheric slant TEC variometric estimation (VARION). Recent enhancements to the algorithm include the incorporation of receiver clock offset drift estimation, derived from the variometric equation applied in a pure static scenario. Through the application of the variometric algorithm in static scenario, the variometric residuals can be derived for individual satellites, and potentially be used as a real-time descriptor of the timely evolution of local tropospheric conditions with respect to a GNSS receiver. Residual analysis implications and limitations are further explored into the article

Interactions between tissues, cells, and biomaterials: an advanced evaluation by synchrotron radiation-based highresolution tomography.

This chapter discusses the most recent findings, obtained with the support of synchrotron radiation-based microtomography, in terms of interactions between tissues, cells and biomaterials. Synchrotron imaging has proven to be a fundamental characterization tool for understanding the mechanism of biological behavior of biomaterials proposed as a tissue substitute. Moreover, through this same technique it has been possible to investigate the growth kinetics of the regenerated tissues in different vitro and in-vivo environments. Tissue regeneration, biomaterial resorption and neo-vascularization were evaluated by synchrotron radiation microtomography and holotomography at different times from grafting. These innovative techniques allowed not only the visualization and quantification of regenerated tissues, but showed also the eventual presence and distribution of the neo-vascularization. This is of paramount importance and demonstrates that X-Ray phase tomography and holotomography appear to be important ways to investigate the cross talk between tissues, cells and biomaterials

In the modern parish church of La Palma quarter, in Cagliari, is kept a beautiful devotional painting, a Marian icon, still unpublished. The author and period of realization are unknown. As regards iconography, the painting may derive from an old and venerated Roman prototype, the S. Maria in Portico icon, known as Portus Romanae Securitatis, kept at present in S. Maria in Campitelli. From an artistic, historical point of view, the dating of the picture could be ascribed to the first decades of the seventeenth century, during the Roman Counter Reformation period. The painting may be attributed to Giuseppe Valeriano and Scipione Pulzone school or to some of their followers
