Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Cytotoxic Effect of the Combination of Gemcitabine and Atorvastatin Loaded in Nanoparticle on the MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells and HFS Human Foreskin Cells
Background: The combination of anticancer drugs in nanoparticles has great potential as
a promising strategy to maximize drug efficacies. Gemcitabine (GEM), a nucleoside analogue, and
atorvastatin (ATV), a cholesterol lowering agent, have shown anticancer effect with some limitations.
Objective: The study aimed to evaluate antitumor activity of the combination therapy of GEM and
ATV encapsulated in nanodroplets of microemulsion (ME) formulation in MCF-7 breast cancer cells
and healthy HFS human foreskin cells.
Method: The physical characterization of drug formulas has been studied by the transmission electron
microscope (TEM). The cytotoxicity and efficacy of the formulation were examined by
3(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphyneltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, light microscopy, and
ApopNexin apoptosis detection kit.
Results: It has been found that the IC50, inhibitory concentration at which 50 percent of the cells
inhibited, for the combination of GEM and ATV at 1:2 ratio, respectively, in the ME (GEM/2ATVME)
with a droplet diameter of 4.81±0.86 nm, subjected into the MCF-7 cells for 24h, was similar to
the combination of GEM and ATV at 1:1 ratio, respectively, in water (GEM/ATV). According to the
FITC/PI assay, 5 µM of GEM/2ATV-ME was less toxic on the HFS cells as higher percentages of
viable cells (85.15%) were detected when compared to the GEM/ATV that caused reduction in the
percentages of the viable cells (66.45%).
Conclusion: Formulating GEM with ATV in ME has improved the therapeutic anticancer potential
of both drugs while reducing their side effects on the normal cells.

Topotecan Incorporation Into Avocado Oil-based Nanoemulsion Potentiates Its Inhibitory Effect on the Cellular Growth of Various Human Cancer Cells
Background:
The aim is to ameliorate the anticancer activity of topotecan (topoisomerase [TOPO]) by solubilizing it in a nanoemulsion (NE) delivery system containing avocado oil (AO), then to assess its cytotoxicity in MCF-7 breast, HCT116 colon, HeLa cervical, and HepG2 liver cancer cells.
Methods:
AO-NE formulation was developed using an ultrasonic homogenizer and characterized by a zeta-sizer and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The effects of the TOPO-AO-NE formula on viability, cellular and nuclear morphology of cancer cells, as well as TOPO cellular accumulation, inflammatory effects, apoptosis, and autophagy, were examined.
Results:
The nanosized particles of the AO-NE formula were negatively charged (114.83 ± 1.10 nm, −8.96 ± 0.14 mV) even after TOPO loading (75.44 ± 8.51 nm,−5.79 ± 0.38 mV). In contrast to free TOPO, TOPO-AO-NE exhibited significant anti-proliferation, clear apoptotic changes, improved TOPO cellular uptake and decreased IC50 from (12.65 ± 0.05, 15.78 ± 0.08, 26.82 ± 0.50, and 5.50 ± 0.50 μM) to (2.35 ± 0.05, 4.90 ± 0.05, 2.58 ± 0.08, and 4.87 ± 0.08 μM) in MCF-7, HCT116, HeLa, and HepG2 cells, respectively. In MCF-7 and HCT116 cells, cytotoxicity of TOPO-AO-NE was attributed to decreased IL-6 levels relative to a negative control, lessened autophagic LC-3 levels compared to free TOPO-treated cells, and induction of type-I apoptotic cell death. In HeLa cells, TOPO-AO-NE-induced apoptosis through autophagy inhibition and induction of type-I apoptosis. In HepG2 cells, AO-NE reduced IL-6 cytokines and induced both type-I-apoptotic and type-II-autophagic cell deaths in comparison with control cells.
Conclusion:
Loading TOPO in AO-NE has dramatically enhanced its’ antiproliferative effects in cancer cells

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
