Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle: Modeling, Prototype Realization, and Inverter Losses Reduction Analysis
No full textNowadays, the greatest part of the effort to reduce pollution emissions is directed toward the hybridization of automotive drive trains. In particular, the design of hybrid vehicles requires a complete system analysis, including the optimization of the electric and electronic devices installed on the vehicle and the design of all the mechanical connections between the different power sources to reach the required performances. The aim of this paper is to describe the design and prototype realization of a plug-in hybrid electrical vehicle (PHEV). Specifically, an energetic model was developed in order to analyze and optimize the power flux between the different parts. This model was experimentally validated using a prototype PHEV. In addition, in order to improve the driving range in an all-electric model (all-electric range), a detailed analysis of the inverter control was performed, because this component is one of the key components of the power train. In order to reduce inverter losses and dimensions, several control methods can be adopted. In this paper, a direct self-control strategy for reducing the inverter losses is presented and validated

No full textSu invito di Paolo Rusconi, Sergio Ubbiali e Anna Nabot, avevo preparato insieme a Fabio Mauri, in alcuni incontri della primavera e dell’estate del 2007, tra Milano e Roma, la presentazione del suo lavoro per il convegno Bellezza e Giustizia della Pro Civitate Christiana. Purtroppo Mauri, che avrebbe voluto ripercorrere personalmente, sul filo della memoria, alcune fasi salienti del proprio cammino, non aveva potuto essere presente, il 13 ottobre ad Assisi, lasciando a me, inaspettatamente, l’onere di svolgere, in una forma necessariamente più anodina e didattica la presentazione per immagini della sua opera.
Fortunatamente è stato possibile utilizzare con una certa ampiezza i suoi lucidi e trasparenti scritti di poetica, ai quali hanno dato voce, alla Cittadella, gli amici Silvia Bignami, Roberto Carusi Davide Colombo e Paolo Rusconi
Synthesis of novel bio-based and degradable polyurethanes using lignin oligomers
No full textBio-based and degradable materials were proposed to challenge the major problem of plastic disposal in the environment. In this context, polyurethane production was re-evaluated, encouraging the search for replacing both petroleum components and highly toxic species. A novel synthesis route is explored in this work, aimed to produce degradable lignin-based polyurethanes. Oligomers from steam-exploded lignin were extracted and used with e-caprolactone (e-CL) to generate a fully bio-based pre-polymer (oligo-grafted-poly(e-CL)), exploiting ringopening polymerization. We have demonstrated that tuning the main reaction parameters, such as e-CL:oligomer and catalyst:e-CL mass ratios, and reaction time, it is possible to obtain different pre-polymers enabling the synthesis of bio-based polyurethanes with variable physicochemical properties. In particular, the oligomeric content modulates the thermal and mechanical properties of the polymer (melting point range: 54-62 degrees C; Young modulus range: 3-7 kPa) and enhances the degradability (up to 13 % wt, in acid environment), highlighting the potential of the material for possible applications
