    Stellate cells in medial entorhinal cortex are required for spatial learning

    Spatial learning requires estimates of location that may be obtained by path integration or from positional cues. Grid and other spatial firing patterns of neurons in the superficial medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) suggest roles in behavioral estimation of location. However, distinguishing contributions of path integration and cue-based signals to spatial behaviors is challenging, and the roles of identified MEC neurons are unclear. We use virtual reality to dissociate linear path integration from other strategies for behavioral estimation of location. We find that mice learn to path integrate using motor-related self-motion signals, with accuracy that decreases steeply as a function of distance. We show that inactivation of stellate cells in superficial MEC impairs spatial learning in the virtual-reality task and in a real world object location recognition task. Our results quantify contributions of path integration to behavior and corroborate key predictions of models in which stellate cells contribute to location estimation

    Benchtop NMR analysis of piperazine-based drugs hyperpolarised by SABRE

    Piperazine-based drugs, such as N-benzylpiperazine (BZP), became attractive in the 2000s due to possessing effects similar to amphetamines. Herein, BZP, in addition to its pyridyl analogues, 2-, 3- and 4-pyridylmethylpiperidine (2-PMP, 3-PMP and 4-PMP respectively) were subjected to the hyperpolarisation technique SABRE (Signal Amplification By Reversible Exchange) in order to demonstrate the use of this technique to detect these piperazine-based drugs. Although BZP was not hyperpolarised via SABRE, 2-PMP, 3-PMP and 4-PMP were, with the ortho- and meta-pyridyl protons of 4-PMP showing the largest enhancement of 313-fold and 267-fold respectively in a 1.4 T detection field, following polarisation transfer at earth's magnetic field. In addition to the freebase, 4-PMP.3HCl was also appraised by SABRE and was found not to polarise, however, the addition of increasing equivalents of triethylamine (TEA) produced the freebase, with a maximum enhancement observed upon the addition of three equivalents of TEA. Further addition of TEA led to a reduction in the observed enhancement. SABRE was also employed to polarise 4-PMP.3HCl (ca. 20% w/w) in a simulated tablet to demonstrate the forensic application of the technique (138-fold enhancement for the ortho-pyridyl protons). The amount of 4-PMP.3HCl present in the simulated tablet was quantified via NMR using D2 O as a solvent and compared well to complimentary GC-MS data. Exchanging D2 O for CD3 OD as the solvent utilised for analysis resulted in a significantly lower amount of 4-PMP.3HCl being determined, thus highlighting safeguarding issues linked to drug abuse in relation to determining the amount of active pharmaceutical ingredient present

It is based on new geophysical and geological data collected as of 2021, including gravity, magnetics, reflection seismic and drilling data.<b>Purpose</b><br/>To document contemporary understanding of the solid geology of the East Tennant region based on new data collected as part of the Exploring for the Future program.New multidisciplinary data collected as part of the Exploring for the Future (EFTF) Program has changed our understanding of the basement geology of the East Tennant region in the Northern Territory, and its potential to host mineralisation. To ensure this understanding is accurately reflected in geological maps, we undertake a multidisciplinary interpretation of the basement geology in East Tennant. For the purposes of this product, basement comprises polydeformed and variably metamorphosed rocks of the pre-1800 Ma Warramunga Province, which are exposed in outcrop around Tennant Creek, to the west. In the East Tennant region, these rocks are entirely covered by younger flat-lying strata of the Georgina Basin, and locally covered by the Kalkarindji Suite, and South Nicholson Basin (Ahmad 2000).<br/><br/>The data from this solid geology map are designed to be included in mineral potential models and future updates to Geoscience Australia’s chronostratigraphic solid geology maps. <br/><br/>This interpretation comprises a Geographic Information System (GIS) dataset containing basement geology polygons, faults and contacts. Geological units are consistent with the Australian Stratigraphic Units Database and faults utilise existing conventions followed by Geoscience Australia’s chronostratigraphic solid geology products (Stewart et al. 2020). To aid in understanding the data, we have added a three-stage fault hierarchy. Basement geology was interpreted at 1:100000 scale (but is intended for display at 1:250000 scale) using geophysical imagery, namely total magnetic intensity and vertical derivatives of these data, and gravity. The interpretation makes use of numerous new datasets collected as part of the EFTF program. These include a new 2-km spaced gravity grid over most of East Tennant, drill-core lithology from new boreholes drilled as part of the MinEx CRC National Drilling Initiative, airborne electromagnetic data collected under the AusAEM program, new active seismic data, and geochronology from legacy boreholes. These data are available to view and download from the Geoscience Australia portal (https://portal.ga.gov.au).<br/><br/>We interpret that basement in the East Tennant region does represent the eastern continuation of the Warramunga Province. There is no obvious geophysical or geological boundary between Tennant Creek and East Tennant. However, the East Tennant region mostly lacks stratigraphy equivalent to the Ooradidgee Group, which overlies and postdates mineralisation in turbiditic rocks of the Warramunga Formation at Tennant Creek. Instead, East Tennant is underlain by a widespread succession of clastic metapelitic rocks that bear many lithological and geochronological similarities to the Warramunga Formation (Cross et al. 2020). Other important outcomes of this work include the documentation of significant regional faults and shear zones and abundant intrusive rocks at East Tennant. Geophysical and geochronological data suggest that this deformation and magmatism is the eastern continuation of ~1850 Ma tectonism preserved at Tennant Creek (e.g. Cross et al. 2020). <br/><br/>NOTE: Specialised (GIS) software is required to view this data. <br/><br/><br/>References:<br/>Ahmad M, 2000.     Maintenance and Update Frequency: notPlannedStatement: This Tennant Creek Gravity (P197311), gravity point data contains ground gravity point data for the Tennant Creek Gravity (P197311) survey acquired for Bureau of Mineral Resources (BMR). This dataset contains a total of 351 point data values. The data is located in NT and were acquired in 1973. The point located data were collected in grid layout at an average station spacing of 1000 metres. Terrain corrections were calculated using the INTREPID Geophysics software package. The processed data are checked by GA geophysicists using standard methods for assessing quality to ensure that the final data are fit-for-purpose. All data are provided in EPSG:4283 coordinates, Australian Height Datum (AHD) and gravity datum of AAGD07. The units are degrees, meters, and micrometres per second squared, respectively.     Instream flow methodologies: an evaluation of the Tennant method for higher gradient streams in the national forest system lands in the western U.S.

    2006 Fall.Includes bibliographical references.In 1976 Donald Tennant introduced a method for determining instream flow requirements for fish, known as the 'Montana method', or more commonly the Tennant method. The method uses a percentage of average annual flow (AAF) to determine fish habitat quality. From 58 cross sections from 11 streams in Montana, Nebraska, and Wyoming, Tennant concluded that 10% of AAF is the minimum for short term fish survival, 30% of AAF is considered to be able to sustain fair survival conditions, and 60% of AAF is excellent to outstanding habitat. These quantities are employed internationally, regardless of physical and hydrologic setting, due to the simplicity of using only the average annual hydrograph. The purpose of the current study was to determine under what conditions Tennant's fixed percent AAF values apply, to specifically evaluate Tennant's original width, depth, and velocity measurements, to evaluate the applicability of Tennant's percent of AAF, as compared to other methods of determining minimum instream flows, and to determine if there are regional characteristics that relate to the applicability of the Tennant method. Tennant's method was tested to see if percent AAF actually can be used as a surrogate for other hydraulic measures, such as width, depth, and velocity. These physical parameters have been used in other studies to quantify instream flow used for fish. The two other methods that were used in the comparisons were the wetted perimeter method and the physical habitat simulation system (PHABSIM). A set of regional characteristics were used to look for region specific patterns. These characteristics including: stream type, state, ecoregion, and hydro-climatic regime. A total of 151 cross sections were analyzed on seventy river segments throughout the western U.S. (California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Washington). The streams were classified as pool-riffle, plane bed, step-pool, and dune-ripple. This study will offer resource managers additional information on the applicability of the Tennant method for determining instream flow needs for the physical, biological, and social setting. This study concluded that Tennant's original dataset was not representative of streams in the western United States. Data collected from lower gradient streams in Nebraska followed the patterns set forth by Tennant much more closely, and therefore the Tennant method is more applicable in similar low gradient streams (slope less than 1%). In higher gradient streams the use of the Tennant method should be with caution and be restricted to planning stages of instream flow recommendations. Further validation and method adaptation is recommended when using the Tennant method for higher gradient stream types. The Tennant method should be used in instream flow protection scenarios and not in restoration scenarios because of the method's assumption that the current average annual hydrograph represents the optimal fish habitat

    The Economic Impacts of Information and Communication Technology In The Hungarian Economy

    As the author could not find a reassuring mathematical and statistical method in the literature for studying the effect of information communication technology on enterprises, the author suggested a new research and analysis method that he also used to study the Hungarian economic sectors. After a brief introduction to the theoretical background of the Information Age, the author examines the question of what factors have an effect on their net income is essential for enterprises. First, the potential indicators related to economic sectors were studied, then the author compared those indicators to the net income of the surveyed enterprises. The data resulting from the comparison showed that the growing penetration of electronic marketplaces contributed to the change of the net income of enterprises in various economic sectors to the extent of 37 %. Among all the potential indicators, only the indicator of electronic marketplaces has a direct influence on the net income of enterprises. It was practical to determine two clusters based on the potential indicators

The highest increment of specific Gross Value Added was produced by thefields of ‘Manufacturing’, ‘Electricity, gas and water supply’,‘Transport, storage and communication’ and ‘Financialintermediation’. With the exception of ‘Electricity, gas andwater supply’, the other economic sectors belong to the groupof underdeveloped branches (below 50%).On the other hand, ‘Construction’, ‘Health and social work’and‘Hotels and restaurants’ can be seen as laggards, so theygot into the lower left part of the coordinate system.‘Agriculture, hunting and forestry’ can also be classified as alaggard economic sector, but as the effect of the compoundindicator on the increment of Gross Value Added was lesssignificant, it can be found in the upper left part of thecoordinate system. Drawing a trend line on the points, it can bemade clear that it shows a positive gradient, that is, the higherthe usage of ICT devices, the higher improvement can bedetected in the specific Gross Value Added
