La città con il se
No full textQuale sarebbe oggi l'aspetto di alcuni luoghi della città di Bologna se a suo tempo fossero stati realizzati i progetti che dovevano trasformarli? Da questa domanda nasce un'ipotesi di ricerca che l'Istituto per i beni culturali della Regione Emilia-Romagna ha proposto al Dipartimento di architettura dell'Università di Bologna, nel quadro della collaborazione derivante da una convenzione sottoscritta nel 2013. Il titolo richiama uno studio del 1985 su Venezia, curato tra gli altri da Lionello Puppi e Manfredo Tafuri, Le Venezie possibili. Da Palladio a Le Corbusier , studio che divenne una mostra allestita al Museo Correr.
I tre contributi che seguono fanno il punto sull'avanzamento di questo progetto, che è stato sperimentato riferendosi a un'area, quella a ridosso del viale Panzacchi e della via San Mamolo, oggi nota come ex StaVeCo, interessata nel corso del Novecento da diverse proposte progettuali. Maria Beatrice Bettazzi riferisce sul progetto della Scuola di Ingegneria di Attilio Muggia; Simone Garagnani e Luisa Bravo commentano le ipotesi ricostruttive elaborate in base a quel progetto; Matteo Sintini prosegue il racconto sulle diverse ipotesi di utilizzo dell'area negli anni Trenta e Quaranta.
L'intenzione è quella di estendere nei prossimi mesi il lavoro ad altri ambiti urbani già individuati, con l'intento di suscitare l'interesse e persino la sorpresa dell'osservatore, sottolineando al tempo stesso il valore decisivo del progetto urbano nel processo di riflessione sulla forma della città e sulla riconversione degli spazi a nuovi usi

No full textIl volume racchiude la storia di una delle principali arterie di Bologna: via Indipendenza. Il capitolo sul Teatro Verdi ricostruisce le vicende costruttive ed evolutive di uno degli allora più frequentati luoghi dello spettacolo bolognesi, che dal 1907 alla fine degli anni '50 ha subito importanti trasformazioni per aumentarne progressivamente la capienza, giungendo ad ospitare 1500 posti. Dopo i pesanti bombardamenti subiti durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, il teatro ha subito l'ultima definitiva modificazione, che lo ha reso uno dei pochi cinematografi tuttora attivi nel centro storico di Bologna
I luoghi delle merci
No full textIl repertorio di illustrazioni e tavole a fumetti dedicate alla rappresentazione di luoghi deputati alla vendita o alla distribuzione delle merci è particolarmente esiguo. Se la rappresentazione degli spazi costruiti e della città in senso lato trova infatti numerosissime referenze che hanno nel tempo stimolato un percorso di ricerca piuttosto definito, grandi magazzini, negozi, shopping center e mall trovano scarsa fortuna a livello rappresentativo e vengono raramente impiegati nel contesto della narrazione sequenziale per immagini. Questa esiguità di riferimenti ha ragioni precise ed è il frutto di un rapporto affatto particolare che la narrazione per immagini intrattiene con le merci e di conseguenza con i luoghi a esse consacrati.
Si propone quindi di tenere in parallelo due piani del discorso in oggetto: il primo e più elementare attiene alle situazioni nelle quali la tavola a fumetti rappresenta nel contesto di una storia qualsiasi un luogo deputato alla diffusione delle merci in senso stretto. Il secondo piano è invece riferito a quei pochi esempi nei quali il tema dei luoghi della merce è oggetto centrale della narrazione e della riflessione dell’autore. Il primo discorso potrà restituirci spunti di riflessioni sulle modalità rappresentative adottate in relazione a questi luoghi, il secondo restituirà ragione del complesso rapporto tra fumetto e merce in senso lato

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full text<p>The Ludovico Quaroni's competition winner project for the urban park of the Tobacco Manufacturing and the Navile dockyard, although unrealised, still represents a sort of conclusive point of the search path (he died in 1987) of one of the most prominent characters of the Italian architectural scene – and not only - of the 20th century. Furthermore, the high number of contenders to the competition’s first stage (139) made the contest itself an extraordinary occasion of rethinking an important part of the city of Bologna, a somewhat hybrid part located on the verge of town historic centre and its first expansion and offered the chance of challenge for the mostly Italian architects. The Quaroni’s group was composed by many others architects including important authors of the reconstruction projects of Bologna in the years following World War II; their proposal aimed at bringing order in a non-connected urban context filled with many fragments of historical memories of the site. The process of spaces redefinition, as in the beginning projects of the architect’s career, is conducted with the tools of the “design” (as used by Manfredo Tafuri, 1964), as an instrument of territorial and urban areas re-composition, undertook through the conservation of trails, overlapped by a new system of episodes, keeping the idea of fragments, responding to the competition requirements. In fact, the project balances the new parts in strict relation with the pre-existing elements of the historic town centre, considering the tangible and material dimensions of the city. Such a new system is governed by a clear scheme of structured elements based on the project of void, provided with a clear formal image, whose final outcome is a figurative regeneration. In this idea and formal organism Quaroni developing many of his design principles, gives a personal interpretation to the contemporary issue of regeneration empowered by those reflections that had just entered in the much wider debate in the mid-eighties, about conservation and sustainability of historic centres and the natural environment. Notably, this issue is dealt with in a cultural environment such as the one of Bologna, a city that gave much to the debate on conservation of old towns (see the Cervellati plan); a discussion founding the Italian experience of the 20th century and particularly of its second half. From this point of view, the contribution of architects from Bologna at Quaroni’s project has therefore probably accounted for the special sensibility shown by the project on those matters. After giving up on Quaroni’s plan Aldo Rossi was chosen by the Municipality to develop the project; his ideas confirm, although with different outcomes, an approach based on the value of the conservation of memory and the use of clear forms as means of urban regeneration.</p></jats:p
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
