Safe Transients for Pipe Survey in a Real Transmission Main by Means of a Portable Device: The Case Study of the Trento (I) Supply System
In this paper the possibility of using transient tests, generated by the Portable Pressure Wave Maker (PPWM) device, as a powerful tool for singularity detection, is checked in a real transmission main. During tests, small pressure waves – with an entity smaller than 1 m of water column – are injected by means of the PPWM, just upstream of the end reservoir. The results of the field test are discussed in terms of the time needed to prepare the experiments, their repeatability, and effectiveness of the injected pressure waves

Characterization of a Family of Paraffin-Based Solid Fuels
In the framework of EU-project ORPHEE, some innovative solid fuel formulations for hybrid rocket propulsion were manufactured and tested in order to overcome the shortcoming of very low fuel regression rates, typical of conventional hybrid rocket fuels. Firing tests were perfomed in a 2D slab burner implemented at SPLab (Space Propulsion Laboratory of Politecnico di Milano). Nano-Al powders and a metal hydride (Magnesium hydride (MgH2)) were used as fillers in paraffin matrices. The highest regression rates were found for the Solid Wax (SW) composition, added with 5% MgH2 mass fraction. At 350 kg/m2s oxygen mass flux, the measured regression rate, averaged in space and time, was 2.5 mm/s, which is approximately five times higher than that of the pure HTPB composition, taken as baseline reference fuel. Compositions added with nano-sized Aluminum powders were compared with those added with MgH2, using gel or solid wax. A rheological investigation and a mechanical characterization were performed, in order to explain the dependence of the regression rate on the nature and size of the metal powder, the viscosity of the paraffin melted layer, the thermodynamic properties of the different paraffins considered in this work

Notes:— Handel-Mazzetti (1931) described Delphinium umbrosum on the basis of a single collection, HandelMazzetti 7809 (WU; Fig. 7), from Zhongdian county in northwestern Yunnan, China. In the protologue, the author stated that this species was related to D. delavayi Franchet (1886: 379), but the latter species differed by having thicker leaves, lanceolate and sessile bracts, much less reflexed spur, much more obliquely truncate upper petals, densely ciliate lateral petals, and very pilose ovaries (“Affine D. Delavayi Franch. quod differt foliis crassioribus, bracteis lanceolatis sessilibus, calcare multo minus reflexo, petalis superioribus multo obliquius truncates, lateralibus crebre ciliatis, ovaries valde pilosis”). Since its description, D. umbrosum has been recognized as an independent species by Wang (1962, 1979 a, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2020), Munz (1968), and Wang & Warnock (2001). Wang (1962) referred ten collections to Delphinium umbrosum, including C.W. Wang 69050 (PE), C.W. Wang 69052 (PE) from Deqen county in northwestern Yunnan and T.T. Yu 979 (PE), J.Q. Hu et al. 3824 (PE), J.Q. Hu et al. 3859 (PE) all from Yuexi county, J.Q. Hu et al. 1132 (PE), J.Q. Hu et al. 1554 (PE), J.Q. Hu et al. 1607 (PE), J.Q. Hu et al. 4248 (PE) all from Hongxi county (now Meigu county), and T.T. Yu 3417 (PE) from Leibo county all in southwestern Sichuan. Wang (1965) considered that only the two Yunnan collections (Fig. 8) belonged to D. umbrosum. He thus described a new variety, D. umbrosum var. hispidum, to accommodate the Sichuan collections, with J.Q. Hu et al. 1607 (PE; Fig. 12A) designated as holotype. He stated that the new variety differed from the type variety, var. umbrosum, by having stem proximally spreading hispid (vs. retrorsely puberulent) and thinner (vs. thicker) (2‒3.5 mm vs. 5‒10 mm in diameter). This treatment was accepted by Wang (1979a, 2020) and Wang & Warnock (2001). We have examined all the type material of Delphinium umbrosum var. hispidum and determined that this variety is identical with D. omeiense, a species described on the basis of six collections also from southwestern Sichuan and since its description generally recognized by Wang (1979 a, 1984, 2000, 2016, 2020), Wang & Wang (2000), Wang & Warnock (2001), and Xie (2016). In fact, the four sheets of Sichuan Econ. Pl. Exped. 1607 (PE; Fig. 12A–D), which constitute the type collection of D. umbrosum var. hispidum, belong also to a paratype collection of D. omeiense (Wang 1979b; Fig. 12B), because J.Q. Hu et al. 1607 and Sichuan Econ. Pl. Exped. 1607 are actually the same collection, with Hu as the leading participant of the expedition (Fig. 12C). Our critical examination indicates that this collection is not mixed, comprising only one taxon. We will deal with D. omeiense in detail elsewhere; in addition to D. umbrosum var. hispidum, several other names should also be reduced to the synonymy of this species.Published as part of Yuan, Qiong & Yang, Qin-Er, 2022, Taxonomic studies on the genus Delphinium (Ranunculaceae) from China (XXII): Clarifying morphological distinction between D. drepanocentrum and D. umbrosum and synonymizing D. umbrosoides with D. drepanocentrum, pp. 243-258 in Phytotaxa 572 (3) on pages 250-257, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.572.3.3, http://zenodo.org/record/732218

Obesity and canine mammary tumors: correlations between BCS, adiponectin expression, clinical pathological features and overall survival
Obesity was identified as a risk factor for developing breast cancer in the women postmenopausal period and is also associated with a higher risk of lymph node metastasis (1). Obesity is associated with a worse prognosis also in the bitch (2).
The aims of this study were to investigate: the correlation between body condition score (BCS) and some prognostic factors (overall survival, histology and grade of mammary gland tumours), the influence of diet on the BCS and the correlations between adiponectin expression, tumor histological type, histological grade and overall survival at 730 days after mastectomy.
Seventy three bitches presenting with simple, complex or solid carcinomas of the mammary glands were included in the present study. For each dog, an accurate weight assessment was conducted using a nine-point BCS system and the study population was divided into three groups: normal weight (4-5/9)(n=42), overweight (6-7/9)(n=19) and obese (8-9/9)(n=12). Type of diet and eating habits were recorded.
After surgical excision, histological type, tumor size, and nodal status were determined according to WHO criteria (3). Immunohistochemistry was performed for the evaluation of adiponectin expression using a mouse monoclonal anti adiponectin primary antibody (ab22554) and streptavidin peroxidase system as detection method. Staining intensity and staining distribution were both assessed with a specific 4 point scoring system. If the sum of scores was greater than 2, the sample was considered positive; otherwise, it was negative.
No differences were found between BCS and histological types, while BCS was correlated to a worse histological grade (P<0.01). Overweight and obese bitches showed a shorter overall survival than normal weight bitches. Bitches fed with a homemade diet had a higher BCS than dogs fed with a commercial one, and it was observed a correlation between diet and overall survival of dogs after the mastectomy. A homemade diet seems to be generally worse probably because it is often unbalanced and not correctly integrated, predisposing to obesity and consequently increasing the risk of developing mammary gland carcinoma. In neoplastic mammary gland tissue, the adiponectin expression was positive for 36 samples (49%) and negative for 37 (51%). No statistical correlation was found between adiponectin expression, histological type and histological grade and, therefore, it can’t be considered a positive prognostic factor for mammary gland carcinoma in dogs.
In conclusion, an higher BCS affects the survival time and the histological grade of breast canine mammary carcinoma

Pressure Reducing Valve Characterization for Pipe System Management
AbstractPressure control strategy through Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs) has been deeply investigated as management strategy, aimed at water leakage reduction avoiding very expensive pipe replacement programmes. On the contrary, few experimental data are available in literature, particularly in unsteady-state conditions. In this paper, the results of some tests carried out at the Water Engineering Laboratory of the University of Perugia (I) in order to characterize a PRV with two set points for high and low pressures are presented. The PRV is installed in a single high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe supplied by a tank in which the pressure is assured by pumps of different characteristics. Two types of tests are considered: steady-state tests, to characterize the PRV, and extended period tests, to check its dynamic behaviour
