Paleoamerican Occupation, Stone Tools from the Cueva del Medio, and Considerations for the Late Pleistocene Archaeology in Southern South America
Archaeological excavations at the Cueva del Medio performed during the 1980s and 1990syielded an important record of both faunal and stone tool remains, as well as data, to discuss issues that occurred during the Terminal Pleistocene. Due to that, the shaped Paleoamerican artifacts collected in the author?s excavations were partially informed. The present article provides unpublished data on the field-work, the results of a techno-morphological analysis of the stone tools, and considerations about early hunter-gatherer societies along with their regional paleo-environmental interactions, as well other topics regarding the regional archaeological process during the last millennium of the Pleistocene. Findings from there have been extremely useful for discussing diverse paleo-ecological and archaeological topics and have extended the knowledge and discussions about dierent Pleistocene scientific issues, mainly related with flora, fauna, and the colonization of southern Patagonia.Fil: Nami, Hugo Gabriel. An Evaluation of the Speech Training Techniques Used in the Gabriel Richard Basic Course
The Gabriel Richard Institute first came to the attention of the author in the fall of 1964 when he began his career as a high school teacher of speech. A fellow faculty member suggested that the Institute\u27s Leadership Course, the forerunner of the basic course, might offer some techniques which would be helpful in the classroom. Some of the methods used by the Institute proved so effective that the possibility of evaluating them was investigated in a study preliminary to this thesis. The study revealed that previous theses and papers had undertaken an evaluation of similar courses. No academic critique had been made of the basic course of the Gabriel Richard Institute, however. These factors led to the choice of the subject for this thesis
Outras aventureiras: mulheres no circuito editorial de Hugo Pratt
The aim of this study is to look at the editorial career of comics artist Hugo Pratt and analyze it from a gender perspective. However, this approach does not focus on the female representation in the characters created by the author, but rather on the traces of the real women who made up a workforce, often invisible, in the author\u27s comics. Using methodologies from the History of Books and Reading, analyzing Pratt’s “reading circuit”, we seek to identify female agents with direct participation in the construction of the author’s bibliography. Understanding this process allows us to understand that women have historically occupied positions in the editorial field, but the inequality and asymmetry of power in the field becomes evident.O objetivo deste estudo é olhar para a trajetória editorial do quadrinista Hugo Pratt e analisá-la com enfoque na questão de gênero.

The President in His Labyrinth: Literature and the Construction of the Chávez Mythology
This article analyzes the complex relationship between writers and the self-mythologizing of Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. The author traces Chávez's attempts to acquire cultural capital through the support of writers such as Gabriel García Márquez and Victor Hugo while confronting other notable figures, such as Mario Vargas Llosa. The author argues that emphasis on Chávez's role in manipulating the media has obscured the fact that he also has attempted to be taken seriously as a public intellectual. Using Angel Rama's concept of the "letrado" (the learned man of letters), the author argues that Chávez's relationship with public intellectuals fits within a historical continuum of using literary writing as a basis for legitimizing political power. Finally, the author contrasts the role of García Márquez with that of two other Boom figures, Mario Vargas Llosa and Carlos Fuentes, who have been vehement in their criticism of the Venezuelan president.
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).This work discusses aspects of dramatic literature regarding to the origins of the text written for the stage, the serious-comic genres and the forms of monologue and political theater of the twentieth century. Starting from the play Diatriba de amor de contra un hombre sentado, written by the Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez and debuted in Buenos Aires, in 1988, I recognize tragic and satirical characteristics as compositional methods of the piece. Thinking about the materiality of the dramatic genre, which is, a text written to be staged in front of an audience, I verify the representation of a performative, revolutionary and, in this specific case, female force against the ruling bourgeois order and patriarchal society divided into classes. In order to ensure better contextualization, I present my translation to the full text of the play and then develop a study on the serious-comic genres, from which the diatribe and the monologue were born. So, I discuss the revolutionary aspect of satires and tragedies and establish a
comparison between the protagonist of the play, Graciela Jaraiz de la Vera, and the character Fernanda del Carpio, from Cien años de soledad, in order to observe how the speech reaches, by the form of the theater, a sense much more political than in the novel. To support this reading, I use the theoretical texts of Georg Friedrich Hegel, György Lukács, Raymond Williams, Mikhail
Bakhtin, Peter Szondi, Patrice Pavis, Hans-Thyes Lehmman and Anatol Rosenfeld, between others
Structural analysis of a mold for plastic components injection
This thesis aims at the analysis of a mold for injection of plastic components. The work focuses on a specific mold that, due to the need for reduction of its dimensions (in order to be compatible with the client machine), gave some problems.
The study focused on a finite element analysis using the SolidWorks program. In a first approach is made a study of the components of the simplified mold, the results of this study are then validated against a second simulation where the critical components are simulated considering the cooling channels.
The reduction in the size of structural components of the model, requested by the client, resulted in a weakening of the structure. Generating excessive displacement between the core and the mold cavities and thus the burr occurrence in the molded parts. In order to know if the mold had been well dimensioned on budgeting phase, a new simulation has been prepared, with the dimensions of the structural components increased to the values used in the preliminary phase of budgeting. This simulation showed that the mold was able to smoothly inject the parts, however was oversized.
It is known that the design of the mold components is implemented based on Manuel Novo (Erofio’s owner) and Gabriel Santos (responsible for budgeting) experience. This type of prediction is successful because it has a very high safety margin. The reason for this event relates to the difficulty to achieve critic point, from which start to be problems. This theory is supported by the latest simulation conducted in this study.
The analysis of the mold in question took place at the department of production of Erofio S.A. in the, the company premises in Batalha, Leiria, during 6 months.
Over the next chapters the focus will be on the study and evaluation of results, whose findings will be presented throughout the work
Implementing the market approach to enterprise support - an evaluation of ten matching grant schemes
Developing viable new business is critical to recovery, and long-term growth, especially in transition economies. There has been a long history of public support of enterprise development, starting with centralized state agency initiatives, but moving more recently to decentralized instruments for development of the business services market. The window of time during which the benefits of intervention are likely to be greatest: when a market is in its infancy, and its development is constrained by uncertainty, and lack of information. Interventions for enterprise support should be demand-responsive, and flexibly organized. In some circumstances, centralized assistance may still be effective, but it is generally better to use competitive private service providers responding to enterprises'changing needs. The main task is to stimulate the private services sector, improving its capacity to respond to the demands of new, and expanding private enterprises. Support for enterprises has tended to be either free, or heavily subsidized. But such subsidies can be justified only if interventions efficiently supply goods. Providing technical, and management know-how can be a public good if it generates externalities- if, for example, know-how benefits can be disseminated at proportionately low additional cost. Any subsidy for an intervention should be temporary, and should be phased out when the main objective of intervention is achieved - that is, when the market takes off. Grants should generally be for know-how, not for equipment. There may be a case for unbundling the know-how component of loans (including feasibility studies, and follow-up expert services) for grant funding. A package combining loans and grants - through a single financial institution, or through separate institutions - may work provided safeguards can be put in place to prevent perverse use of grants. The matching grant model, which is used increasingly in the World Bank, and elsewhere, is one solution - but it must be justified, and carefully designed. After evaluating ten matching grant funds, the author concludes that performance is mixed. Best practice models are needed. Ensuring economic benefits requires proactive management, with clear objectives of market facilitation ("making a market"). And it requires a balance between rapid grant approval procedures, and careful selection of services for grants.Economic Theory&Research,Decentralization,Enterprise Development&Reform,Environmental Economics&Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Health Economics&Finance,Banks&Banking Reform,Economic Theory&Research,Environmental Economics&Policies,ICT Policy and Strategies
Introduction: The circadian rhythm regulates metabolic changes in 24-hour cycles. In healthcare workers with night shifts, lower quality of life, emotional fatigue, and obesity are observed. Studies indicate sleep and dietary disturbances, with possible traits of anxiety or depression. Metabolic and cardiovascular diseases worsen with disruptions in the sleep-wake cycle.
Objective: To establish the metabolic effects of circadian rhythm disruption in hospital healthcare workers.
Methodology: This study is a narrative literature review on the metabolic effects of circadian rhythm disruption in hospital healthcare workers. Articles from the last 5 years in English and Spanish, from various sources and countries, were included. Relevant keywords were used, and studies without open access were excluded. Results were synthesized in a database with information on author, year, study type, population, and observed metabolic effects.
Results: Circadian rhythm disruption in healthcare workers is associated with changes in the ability to process stimuli and alterations in clock genes affecting metabolic health. Increased fasting glucose levels and alterations in phospholipid metabolism, with elevated triglycerides and HDL, were observed. Night shift workers experience sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, work-related stress, and reduced performance compared to conventional schedules, increasing the risk of occupational accidents.
Conclusion: Circadian rhythm disruption in healthcare workers is linked to diabetes, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome. Rotating night shift workers every 2 months normalizes the circadian rhythm and reduces long-term metabolic effects. Prolonged night shifts without adequate rest cause physical problems and increase the risk of depression and Burnout syndrome. Night work affects attention and critical judgment, posing risks to patients. Lack of staff, insufficient rest periods, and poor diet are major contributors to circadian disruptionTesisRevisión bibliográfic
