Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. A bacia hidrográfica do córrego Jatuquara, localizada no município de Terra Rica, tem como destaque a ocorrência de processos erosivos acelerados que causam intensa degradação da cobertura pedológica e oferecem riscos à infraestrutura rural e urbana, resultado da combinação da fragilidade natural do meio físico e o uso inadequado do solo sem a adoção de práticas conservacionistas. O procedimento metodológico pautou-se em quatro etapas, sendo o levantamento de dados, caracterização geral da área de estudo, atividades de campo e laboratório e, por fim, a elaboração de produtos cartográficos e redação com as interpretações dos dados e discussões dos resultados. Por meio de fotografias aéreas e imagens de satélite, dos anos de 1980, 2008 e 2016, foi possível estabelecer três cenários distintos de evolução dessas feições erosivas. A partir dos dados levantados, foram identificadas no ano de 1980 quatro voçorocas que abrangiam uma área de 10.021 m2. No ano de 2008, foram identificadas vinte e nove voçorocas que ocupavam uma área de 59.633 m2. Em relação ao ano de 2016, constatou-se que as vertentes nas quais haviam sete voçorocas em 2008 foram recuperadas, porém, identificaram-se o surgimento de outras oito voçorocas nesse mesmo período e o avanço das outras vinte e duas voçorocas já identificadas no ano de 2008. Assim, em 2016 foram identificadas trinta voçorocas ocupando uma área total de 70.805 m2. Com o intuito de recuperar as vertentes afetadas pelas voçorocas foram realizados apontamentos de medidas de contenção e recuperação das áreas com a presença dessas feições erosivas. Por fim, o levantamento das características físicas e antrópicas permitiram indicar medidas e técnicas de manejo e conservação do solo com o intuito de garantir a sustentabilidade da bacia hidrográfica do córrego JatuquaraABSTRACT: Soil erosion has become a socioenvironmental problem in the northwest region of the State of Paraná, being the gully, the most impacting linear erosive feature in this region. The watershed of the Jatuquara river, located in the municipality of Terra Rica, is characterized by the occurrence of accelerated erosive processes that cause intense degradation of the pedological cover and pose risks to the rural and urban infrastructure, a result of the combination of the natural fragility of the physical environment and the improper use of the soil without the adoption of conservation practices. The methodological procedure was based on four stages: data collection, general characterization of the study area, field and laboratory activities, and, finally, the elaboration of cartographic products and writing with the interpretations of the data and discussions of the results. Through aerial photographs and satellite images, from the years 1980, 2008 and 2016, it was possible to establish three distinct scenarios of evolution of these erosive features. From the data collected, in 1980 there were identified four gullies that covered an area of 10,021 m2. In 2008, twenty nine gullies were identified, occupying an area of 59,633 m2. In relation to the year 2016, it was verified that the slopes in which there were seven gullies in 2008 were recovered, but the emergence of another eight gullies in the same period and the advance of the twenty two gullies already identified in the year 2008 were identified. Thus, in 2016 were identified thirty gullies occupying a total area of 70,805 m2. With the intention of recovering the slopes affected by the gullies, observations of measures of containment and recovery of the areas with the presence of these erosive features were made. Finally, the physical and anthropic characteristics of the area allowed to indicate measures and techniques of soil management and conservation in order to guarantee the sustainability of the watershed of the Jatuquara rive

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
