Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Caractéristiques épidémiologiques, cliniques, échocardiographiques et pronostiques de l'endocardite infectieuse à streptococcus bovis
No full textL'endocardite infectieuse reste une pathologie sévère de part ses complications, sa mortalité et son coût. Les études épidémiologiques de 1983, 1991, 1999 ne montrent pas de diminution de son incidence, mais son profil démographique, clinique, microbiologique et thérapeutique s'est modifié ces dernières années. L'évolution du profil microbiologique est marquée par l'augmentation de la fréquence des endocardites à Streptococcus bovis et des Staphylococcus. Notre étude a pour but d'étudier le profil épidémiologique, clinique, échocardiographique et pronostique de l'endocardite à Streptococcus bovis. Nous avons colligé une série de 253 endocardites entre novembre 1988 et août 2002 dont 45 endocardites à Streptococcus bovis, soit 18% des cas. L'âge moyen des patients atteints d'une endocardite à Streptococcus bovis est de 63 +- 12 ans. Dans 80% des cas, elle survient chez des hommes, et dans 66% des cas sur cœur sain et principalement au niveau du cœur gauche (97.8% des patients). Une végétation est retrouvée dans 98% des cas, sa taille n'est pas différente des endocardites induites par les autres germes, mais avec semble-t-il une mobilité plus importante. L'endocardite à Streptococcus bovis est plus emboligène (25 patients sur 45 soit 55% ont eu un évènement embolique ; p=0.075). Elle entraîne d'importants dégâts valvulaires puisque 51% des patients présentent une fuite de grade III-IV, 36% une perforation et 11% un abcès valvulaire induisant des signes d'insuffisance cardiaque chez 22 patients soit 49%. Le recours à la chirurgie précoce y est donc fréquent (49% des cas). La mortalité hospitalière de l'endocardite à Streptococcus bovis est de 6.7% (3 patients). Cette mortalité est similaire à celle retrouvée dans les endocardites dues aux autres Streptococcus mais beaucoup moins importante qu'en cas d'endocardite induite par les autres germes. La mortalité tardive, c'est-à-dire au-delà de l'hospitalisation n'est pas négligeable puisqu'elle est de 22% (10 sur 42 patients). En analyse univariée le Streptococcus bovis apparaît comme un élèment associé à la survenue d'une insuffisance cardiaque( p=0,063), d'un accident embolique (p=0,041) mais à une mortalité hospitalière (p=0,055) et totale (p=0,004) plus faible. L'analyse univarié des endocardites à Streptococcus bovis retrouve comme éléments associés à la survenue : - d'une insuffisance cardiaque : la notion d'éthylisme, d'une durée des symptômes prolongée avant le diagnostic d'endocardite, d'une atteinte aortique, d'une fuite valvulaire sévère et des végétations supérieures à 15mm. - d'un accident embolique : la taille et la mobilité des végétations. - de la mortalité totale : l'augmentation d'un souffle, l'existence d'une valvulopathie préexistante et des végétations très mobiles. Les différents paramètres associés à la survenue d'un événement embolique et d'une insuffisance cardiaque identifiés en analyse univariée sont ensuite intégrés dans un modèle de régression logistique et dans un modèle de Cox pour la mortalité totale. Cette analyse multivariée nous permet d'identifier dans l'endocardite à Streptococcus bovis comme éléments indépendants associés à la survenue : - de la mortalité totale : la notion d'une valvulopathie sous jacente, - d'un accident embolique : le caractère très mobile des végétations, - d'une insuffisance cardiaque : la notion d'éthylisme et d'une fuite valvulaire sévèreAMIENS-BU Santé (800212102) / SudocPARIS-BIUM (751062103) / SudocSudocFranceF
