    Freight transport by road is the transportation of the raw material and finishing product from one location to another location and it is essential for the development of the country as it support the daily life of the residents and operation of industry. However, the challenges in freight transport by road has becomes the limitation to its efficiency. Therefore, identification of the challenges in freight transport by road is a need. The aim of this research is to identify the factors behind the challenges in freight transport by road. To achieve the aim, three objectives have been formulated which are identification of the challenges in freight transport by road, evaluation of the characteristic of freight transport by road and examination of the factors behind the challenges in freight transport by road. To achieve all the objectives, questionnaire survey, observation method and the development of partial least square (PLS) have been conducted. Questionnaire survey is conducted to the haulage companies. 12 challenges regarding the freight transport by road have being survey and the results indicates that the major challenges in freight transport by road are poor road condition access to port, congestion and poor loading/unloading activity at ports. From the results of observations on five selected major roads from Port Klang to Kuala Lumpur meanwhile, verified that some of challenges as stated by haulage companies in the questionnaire survey especially in terms of road condition and congestion, are still exist at present situations. The model for the challenges factor in freight transport by road then developed by using PLS. Six hypotheses are establishing and three were accepted. These three accepted hypothesis are Management has a positive significance influence to the Distribution, Authority has a positive significance influence to the Others and Authority has a positive significance influence to the Management, and reveal the challenges factor in freight transport by road. Therefore, it is hope that the government can address these factors in increasing the efficiency in freight transport by road

    The study of stemming algorithm on Malay words that begin with alphabets P, Q, Y, and Z from the translated Al-Quran / Suriani Mat

    This thesis concerns a Malay language documents retrieval system. Stemming algorithm, Malay Quran translated documents and root dictionaries are used in order to complete this study. The performance of a Malay stemming algorithm is tested based on words beginning with letter 'p', 'q', 'y' and 'z', using 5 experiments. First experiment uses the original set of data collections. In second experiment, new words are added in the dictionary and the total value for i ' , 'm', 'p', 'q', 'y' and 'z' are modified in the header file "dcvarnew.h". Other than that, affixes rule format in file "rule.txt" are added and misspell words are corrected. Third, the locations of rules in file "rule.txt" are changed. For fourth experiment, words that have more than one root, old spelling words and spoken word are deleted from the dictionary. After the modification, the total value for 'k', 'm\ 'n' and 'p' in header file "dcvarnew.h" are corrected again. Otherwise, new code is added into module 'ubahejaan'. In fifth experiment, the spoken word is deleted from the dictionary and the total value for 'p' in file "dcvarnew.h" is corrected. Then alternative rule to solve the words pengawal, pengawalan and perangan is carried out. The objective of this project is achieved when the best order of the rules to use to stem the words that beginning with p', 'q', 'y' and 'z' is met. This involves the use of two combinations simultaneously such as the pair combination of 1234 as primary combinations and 3124 as the secondary. First, all the words used the 1234 combination, and if the program encountered that the words cannot be solved correctly, combination will be shifted to the secondary combination that is 3124 combination. These experiments can serves as a benchmark for future research in Malay language

    Roof area is just a small part of the total surface. Roof must be strong and stable and these are provided by the structure of the roof itself and a major consideration in the design and choice of the structure which is the span. The roof must be sufficiently stiff to carry its own weight, together with loads resulting from the effects of wind and possible live load. The general form of the building as a whole and its function may have an important bearing on the choice of the type of roof structure. This research is conducted to identify what is the suitable material for roof trusses for medium span building, either steel or timber. Medium span are classified between 7.60m to 24.40m.The important factors that must be considered before choosing the types of materials are include many factors. The Comparative Study between Steel and Timber Roof Trusses for Medium Span building is highlighted on design, weight ratio, cost, assembly/installation, fabrication (IBS) fire requirement (UBBL) and jointing. The research is done through the distribution of 40 questionnaires to Roofing Contractors, Roofing Manufacturers, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, CIDB Officers and Quality Control Assistants. Besides that, the data and information were also gathered from interviews of persons with years of experience on roof trusses. Furthermore, the author also selected four case studies about steel and timber roof trusses to achieve the objectives of this research to identify which type of roof trusses suitable and effective for medium span buildings. Finally, the analysis data from the methodology research found that steel roof trusses is suitable for medium span building compared to with timber roof trusses because many advantages and benefits for construction industry today

    Kajian ini bertujuan mengenalpasti bingkai berita iaitu bingkai generik, sub-bingkai, serta sumber berita yang menjadi pilihan utama dalam penerbitan berita nasional oleh wartawan yang masih bergelar belia di akhbar arus perdana Malaysia. Pembingkaian berita digunapakai sebagai kerangka teoritikal kajian ini yang dijalankan menggunakan kaedah tinjauan dalam kalangan wartawan-wartawan yang berumur 21 tahun sehingga 40 tahun yang terlibat secara langsung dengan penulisan berita nasional di 18 buah bilik berita akhbar arus perdana di Malaysia. Analisis ke atas jawapan daripada 332 orang responden menunjukkan bingkai-bingkai generik pilihan utama mereka adalah politik, jenayah, dasar dan polisi kerajaan, minat insani, dan juga sosial dan kemasyarakatan, manakala sub-bingkai yang paling kerap digunapakai adalah kebertanggungjawaban publik, kebaikan publik, pembangunan, masalah-masalah sosial, dan ketelusan. Seterusnya sumber iaitu aktor berita yang kerap kali digunapakai adalah daripada kluster pemimpin masyarakat yang merangkumi Perdana Menteri, menteri-menteri dan ahli-ahli politik. Ujian regresi yang dikendalikan membuktikan kewujudan hubungan yang signifikan antara bingkai generik dengan sub-bingkai, begitu juga antara bingkai dengan sumber berita. Ini juga bermakna setiap isu yang dibingkai bersama sesuatu peristiwa dan seseorang aktor berita sebenarnya adalah bertujuan menghasilkan makna yang dikehendaki oleh wartawan untuk kefahaman khalayak. Dari segi implikasi teoritikalnya, kajian ini memperkukuhkan premis skema pembingkaian yang menyatakan perlunya sebuah bingkai generik, sub-bingkai dan sumber berita dalam sesebuah berita

    This study was conducted to examine whether employees’ perceived importance of the training program would be one variable that mediate the relationship between training assignment and training motivation. Data for this study was collected through in-depth interview and survey questionnaires.Outcomes of testing mediating model using stepwise regression analysis showed that the inclusion of perceived importance into analysis had increased effect of training assignment on training motivation. This result confirms that perceived importance does act as a full mediator in training assignment of Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara, Sarawak. In addition, implications of this study to training practices and theory, methodological and conceptual limitations, as well as direction for future research are discussed

    The role of project managers in sustainable building process: a study on Malaysian construction industry

    Providing all residences of a community with a better quality of life by developing of environmental, social and economic aspects has been focused in sustainable development for decades. In order to achieve the sustainable development, the construction industry is an important sector that should adopt the sustainability concept. Sustainable construction faces some challenges in adopting new processes and working methods due to the new technologies that require some changes in the process and considering risk. The purpose of this research is to find out the role of project managers in sustainable building process in construction industry. The main things that need to be cover are to identify the challenges in sustainable building process and to investigate the relationship between the role of project managers and the challenges. The challenges will identify in three phases such as feasibility and design phase, bidding phase and construction phase. In order to achieve this purpose, a literature review has been conducted to find out the challenges that face by project managers in the sustainable building process and questionnaire survey will use to investigate the relationship between the role of project managers and the challenges. From the finding and analysis done, the true information about the objective one and objective two can be determine. The result that gets from this finding and discussion is there have six variables that have strong positive relationship between the challenges and the role of project manager. The outcomes present the focuses and process as well as main challenges in sustainable building design and construction. These challenges are presented in a time line of a building process. As a conclusion, project managers can play a vital role in integrating sustainability to a building project during design and construction process to deliver a successful sustainable building. Their role is significant to overcome the challenges in sustainable building process

    Determination of defects and damage modes in kenaf-reinforced epoxy composites under fatigue loading using thermal imaging and SEM techniques

    In engineering design, concerns arose on the fatigue behaviours of composite materials.Much effort has been done to estimate the fatigue life by which destructive techniques were commonly used. Recently, non-destructive techniques (NDT) are increasingly being used on composite materials to detect defects. Parallel to the development, shifting interests from traditional monolithic materials to fiber reinforced polymer based materials have been demonstrated by researchers and engineers. Nevertheless, information on the use of NDT on natural fiber reinforced composite materials is still sparse. The present study was set out to detect defects and estimate fatigue life in natural fiber reinforced composite materials. In making the composite, kenaf bast was used as a reinforcement fiber with epoxy as the matrix. The NDT employed to serve the study purposes are Infrared (IR) thermal imaging and optical microscope. In parallel,destructive technique (DT) was also used in this study specifically in carrying out the fatigue tension-tension test and scanning electron microscope (SEM). By and large, the DT was used just to verify all the results by NDT. The advantages of using NDT via IR thermal imaging in kenaf reinforced epoxy composites to estimate the fatigue life are evidenced in the following results: IR has successfully detected five types of manufacturing defects in kenaf reinforced epoxy composites due to manufacturing process. The defects are voids, resin rich area, pockets of undispersed cross-linker, misaligned fiber and regions where resin has poorly wetted the fibers. Subsequently, IR thermal imaging has significantly determined fatigue damage in kenaf reinforced epoxy composites. In addition, fatigue damage modes has also been predicted and determined by the types of defects occurs due to manufacturing process. This proves that IR has successfully been a significant NDT in estimating fatigue life due to fatigue damage, proved experimentally and interpreted by the S-N curve. In terms of fatigue resistance, it is found that 60% fiber volume fraction kenaf reinforced epoxy composites specimen has the highest resistance at 119.71-53.20 MPa. Finally, based on damage accumulation, a model of fatigue life estimation, namely S-IR has been proposed

    Review of development and characterization of sugar palm fiber reinforced polymer composites

    Sugar palm fiber (SPF) has been gaining interest in the area of natural fiber composites owing to its good mechanical properties, high durability, good resistance to seawater and biodegradability. SPF is among the natural fibers that could be a potential material to be used as reinforcement in polymer composites. Incorporation of SPF as reinforcement in polymer composites has resulted in improvement in the physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of the composites. Another interesting point is the low density of SPF, which helps to reduce the weight of the composites, as well as increase the biodegradability. Much research has been carried out to determine the suitability of SPF as reinforcement in polymer composites. SPF-reinforced composites are suitable for a wide range of applications such as automotive anti-roll bars, rescue boats and drain covers.
