The Life and Work of Jiří Hejda

    No full text
The bachelor's thesis deals with the life and work of Jiří Hejda. The first part is devoted to the life of Jiří Hejda itself. The main sources were the author's autobiography, available archive materials and historical studies. In the second part of the thesis, articles that were published in 1931 in the journal České slovo are analyzed. The articles from the section Výroba a obchod (Production and trade), for which was Jiří Hejda responsible, are of main interest. The main topics of his contributions are divided into six basic groups, which are described in more detail. At the end of the chapter, Hejda's opinions are summarized and compared with contemporary economic thought. The third chapter is focused on individual economic publications. Subchapters devoted to the publications include description of the individual pieces of work. Most represented are the works that were published by Česká národohospodářská společnost during the period of the first Czechoslovak republic. The fourth part deals with the literary work of Jiří Hejda. Besides the economic studies, Jiří Hejda wrote an autobiography and was also an author of crowns of sonnets, novels and stories. Jiří Hejda thought up a large portion of his work during the time spent in prison and wrote it only after he was released in the sixties...

Do species differ in their ability to coexist with the dominant alien Lupinus polyphyllus? : A comparison between two distinct invaded ranges and a native range

    No full text
The community-level impacts of invasive plants are likely to vary depending on the character of native species of the target communities and their ability to thrive within the stands of the dominant alien invader. Therefore, I examined the response of native species richness to the cover of the dominant alien Lupinus polyphyllus in two distinct invaded ranges: Czech Republic (Central Europe) and New Zealand. I compared the relation between native species richness and the cover of the dominant alien L. polyphyllus with that in its native range, Pacific Northwest, USA. In the native range, I found no response of native species richness to the cover of L. polyphyllus. In the Czech Republic (central Europe), the richness of native species related to it negativelly, but the relation was only marginally significant. Contrary to that, the richness of species native to New Zealand related to the cover of L. polyphyllus strongly negatively and the negative relation was significantly stronger than that of species native to Europe. Of the two invaded ranges, species native to New Zealand have been documented to be much more vulnerable to the conditions associated with the invasion and dominance of L. polyphyllus, compared to species native to central Europe. This principle has been shown both across these two invaded ranges and in New Zealand, where the aliens of european origin successfully coexist with the dominant invasive alien L. polyphyllus. Similarly, species in the native range of L. polyphyllus showed no relation to its cover, indicating their ability to thrive even in dense stands of this dominant species

This doctoral thesis deals with preparation and description of molecular structures and reactivity of yet unknown neutral and anionic heterocyclic systems containing B-N or N-B-N moiety within to benzene or pyrrole annulated five-membered ring, i.e. derivatives of 1H-2,1-benzazaborole and 1H-pyrrolo[1,2-c][1,3,2] diazaborolidine. Among other mechanisms a previously described nucleophilic addition of strong nucleophiles to the activated imino C=N bond in the structure of starting intramolecularly N-coordinated chloroboranes was utilized.Fakulta chemicko-technologickáDne 13. 9. 2017 Ing. Naturalized alien flora of Uzbekistan: species richness, origin and habitats

    No full text
This is the first study providing an up-to-date account of the alien flora in Uzbekistan and analyzing the relationship between the invasion status (casual, naturalized, invasive) of alien plants in this country and their life histories, regions of origin, and habitat affiliations. The data were collected from literature, herbaria, and field surveys. The check-list includes 252 species, of which 44 are invasive (17.5%), 177 naturalized non-invasive (70.2%, giving 220 naturalized species in total), and 31 casual aliens (12.3%). The family with the highest number of alien species is Asteraceae (53, or 21% of all recorded species), followed by Brassicaceae (21), Poaceae (19), and Solanaceae (15). The most represented genera in the alien flora of Uzbekistan are Amaranthus (8 species), Centaurea, Malva, Solanum, and Vicia (5 each). The majority of the alien flora of Uzbekistan are annuals (138 species, i.e., 57% of the total), followed by perennials (52 species, 21.5%). There are only 13 alien woody species recorded. Invasive species originating from Africa, temperate Asia, and Europe are over-represented, as are naturalized species native to Northern America and Southern America. The majority of species are affiliated with agricultural (204 species) and ruderal habitats (164 species); riparian habitats (68 species) and grasslands (38 species) are also well represented. The pattern of invasions in the country is determined by the interaction of source species pools arriving from native regions, their habitat affiliations, and land use. Our study provides the first step toward science-based management of plant invasions in Uzbekistan. It can support policymakers, authorities, and managers in mitigating the current and future impacts of alien species

The prison poetry of Jan Zahradníček, Václav Renč and Jiří Hejda

    No full text
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is the interpretation and comparison of the prison poetry of Jan Zahradníček, Václav Renč, and Jiří Hejda, who were imprisoned at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s and subsequently released years later after having been granted an amnesty. The purpose of the thesis is the analysis of the poetry that these authors had composed and learned by heart while imprisoned, and which was published after their release. The author of the thesis will focus his attention on the most significant and frequent motifs in each work and on their subsequent comparison

What is the impact of Impatiens parviflora on diversity and composition of herbal layer communities of temperate forests?

    No full text
The aim was to estimate the impacts of invasive Impatiens parviflora on forests' herbal layer communities. A replicated Before-After-Control-Impact field experiment and comparisons with adjacent uninvaded plots were used. The alien's impact on species richness was tested using hierarchical generalized mixed effect models with Poisson error structure. Impact on species composition was tested using multivariate models (DCA, CCA, RDA) and Monte-Carlo permutation tests. Removal plots did not differ in native species richness from neither invaded nor adjacent uninvaded plots, both when the treatment's main effect or its interaction with sampling time was tested (Chi(2) = 0.4757, DF = 2, p = 0.7883; Chi(2) = 7.229, DF = 8, p = 0.5121 respectively). On the contrary, ordination models revealed differences in the development of plots following the treatments (p = 0.034) with the invaded plots differing from the adjacent uninvaded (p = 0.002). Impatiens parviflora is highly unlikely to impact native species richness of invaded communities, which may be associated with its limited ability to create a dense canopy, a modest root system or the fact the I. parviflora does not represent a novel and distinctive dominant to the invaded communities. Concerning its potential impacts on species composition, the presence of native clonal species (Athyrium filix-femina, Dryopteris filix-mas, Fragaria moschata, Luzula luzuloides, Poa nemoralis) on the adjacent uninvaded plots likely makes them different from the invaded plots. However, these competitive and strong species are more likely to prevent the invasion of I. parviflora on the adjacent uninvaded plots rather than being themselves eliminated from the invaded communities
