Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

A obra contempla narrativas sobre a vida de 15 mulheres negras e seus grandes feitos na história do Brasil. Sendo estas: Antonieta de Barros, Aqualtune, Carolina Maria de Jesus, Dandara, Esperança Garcia, Eva Maria do Bonsucesso, Laudelina de Campos Melo, Luisa Mahin, Maria Felipe, Maria Firmina dos Reis, Mariana Crioula, Na Agotimé, Tereza de Benguela, Tia Ciata e Zacimba Gaba. A escrita de Arraes (2020) faz emergir um espaço/lugar que possibilita a criação de novas subjetividades sobre essas identidades negras, recontando trajetórias de mulheres reais por meio do cordel. Diante disso, o objetivo principal da pesquisa é perscrutar a forma como os cordéis de Arraes sobre heroínas negras brasileiras acionam a construção de novas subjetividades e identidades negras, não só no âmbito da narrativa literária, mas também no ambiente extraliterário. As identidades e corporeidades de mulheres negras remetem a processos históricos e socioculturais da história do Brasil e desvelam outras narrativas de (re)existências. Tendo isso em vista, a dissertação buscou analisar a obra a partir de diálogos sobre a construção de representatividades e subjetividades negras, alicerçados em aparatos teóricos fornecidos pelos estudos culturais e raciais, tendo como base as discussões propostas por Stuart Hall (2006), Paul Gilroy (1993), Tomaz Tadeu da Silva (2000), em intersecção com o feminismo negro e com a teoria crítica literária feminista. Debatemos sobre qual é o lugar ocupado pela mulher na narrativa literária Brasileira, mais especificamente o da mulher negra, tendo como referencial Fernanda Miranda (2019), Djamila Ribeiro (2018), Lúcia Osana Zolin (2009), Regina Dalcastagnè (2017), além dos estudos de Francisca Santos (2009) e Bruna Lucena (2016), nos quais obtemos subsídio para entender de que forma a mulher aparece no lugar de autoria e voz no cordel Brasileiro. Assim, a pesquisa é caracterizada como bibliográfica e analítica, visto que procuramos relacionar as transformações da literatura de cordel feita por mulheres, mais especificamente mulheres negras na contemporaneidade com os feminismos contemporâneos. A partir dessa perspectiva, pensamos a mulher negra fora do local onde comumente é narrada, ou seja, como agente construtor e central de sua biografia, e o mesmo com relação à autoria, discutindo sobre a ocupação desses espaços por mulheres. Neste contexto, o cordel emerge como um dispositivo de desestabilização de significantes de opressão, representando uma forma de resistência tanto na esfera autoral quanto na narrativa. Observamos, ainda, um fenômeno significativo: mulheres assumindo papéis centrais na produção e narração de outras mulheres dentro deste gênero literário, conforme foi evidenciado na análise da obra Heroínas Negras Brasileiras: em 15 Cordéis (2020). Nesse sentido, a pesquisa situa a literatura de cordel como um artefato cultural profundamente imbricado nas teias de nossas relações sociais, históricas e de vivência. Ademais, esse tipo literário revela-se dinâmico, reconfigurando-se e estabelecendo novas articulações com as formas de narração e representação, influenciada pela forma como nós, enquanto sujeitos, interpretamos e interagimos com as experiências e percepções que nos circundam. Esta abordagem proporciona uma compreensão mais aguçada da ressonância e contemporaneidade da literatura de cordel com a literatura de autoria feminina negra na esfera cultural e social no Brasil.The corpus of this thesis was Jarid Arraes' Heroínas negras brasileiras: em 15 cordéis (2020). This book includes narratives about the lives of 15 black women and their great achievements in Brazilian history. Among these women: Antonieta de Barros, Aquatune, Carolina Maria de Jesus, Dandara, Esperança Garcia, Eva Maria do Bonsucesso, Laudelina de Campos Melo, Luisa Mahin, Maria Felipe, Maria Firmina dos Reis, Mariana Crioula, Na Agotimé, Tereza de Benguela, Tia Ciata and Zacimba Gaba. Arraes' writing creates a space/place that makes it possible to create new subjectivities about these black identities, retelling the stories of real women through the form of cordel. Therefore, the aim of this research was to examine how Brazilian cordel about black heroines enables the construction of new subjectivities and identities in the literary narrative and in the extra-literary environment, about black women's identities and corporealities, in which this book triggers historical and socio-cultural processes in Brazilian history and unveils other narratives of re-existence. Considering this, this thesis analyzed the book through connections with the construction of black representativities and subjectivities, based on theoretical frameworks provided by cultural and racial studies, based on the discussions presented by Stuart Hall (2006), Paul Gilroy (1993), Tomaz Tadeu da Silva (2000) in association with black feminism and feminist critical literary theory. Thus, we discussed the place occupied by women in Brazilian literary narratives, more specifically black women, based on Fernanda Miranda (2019), Djamila Ribeiro (2018), Lúcia Osana Zolin (2009), Regina Dalcastagnè (2017), as well as the studies of Francisca Santos (2009) and Bruna Lucena (2016), from whom we sought support to understand how women participate in authorship and have a voice in Brazilian cordel. Thus, the research is classified as bibliographical and analytical, in the sense that we aimed to relate the transformations of cordel literature by women, more specifically black women in contemporary society, to contemporary feminisms. From this perspective, we think of the black woman beyond the place where she is usually narrated, but as a constructive and central agent of her biography, and the same goes for authorship, discussing the occupation of these spaces by women. In this context, the cordel emerges as a means of disrupting meanings of oppression, representing a form of resistance in both the authorial and narrative domains. There is also a significant phenomenon: women taking on central roles in the production and narration of other women within this literary genre, as evidenced in the analysis of the book Heroínas Negras Brasileiras: em 15 Cordéis (2020). In this regard, this research situates cordel literature as a cultural artifact that is deeply embedded in the webs of our social, historical and experiential relationships. Furthermore, this literature is dynamic, reconfiguring itself and establishing new articulations with different forms of narration and representation, influenced by the way in which we, as subjects, interpret and interact with the experiences and perceptions that surround us. This approach provides a sharper understanding of the resonance and contemporaneity of cordel literature with black women's literature in the cultural and social context in Brazil.168 f. : il

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
