Il motivo mickievicziano del monumento equestre nel "Kohan i Vlasta" di Franjo Markovic
L'articolo prende in esame il poema tardoromantico Kohan i Vlasta (1868) del poeta croato Franjo Markovic, in particolare il motivo del monumento equestre come chiaro riferimento a Mickiewicz. Attraverso il motivo del monumento che si muove Markovic polemizza con il mitema polacco della ribellione. Le sue posizioni sono quelle del legittimismo liberale e del panslavismo. Nell'articolo si esamina anche la trasformazione del messianesimo di Mickiewicz nell'idea jugoslava, e il chiaro riferimento di Markovic al monumento equestre dedicato al bano Jelacic in piazza centrale a Zagabria

User adaptation in Myoelectric Man-Machine Interfaces

a significant increase in functionality, but their clinical impact is limited, mainly due to lack of reliability. In this study, we analyse two conceptually different machine learning approaches, focusing on their
robustness and performance in a closed loop application. A classification (finite number of classes) and a regression (continuous mapping) based projection of EMG into external commands were applied
while artificially introducing non-stationarities in the EMG signals. When tested on ten able-bodied individuals and one transradial amputee,
the two methods were similarly influenced by non-stationarities
when tested offline. However, in online tests, where the user could
adapt his muscle activation patterns to the changed conditions, the
regression-based approach was significantly less influenced by the
changes in signal features than the classification approach.
This observation demonstrates, on the one hand, the importance of
online tests with users in the loop for assessing the performance of myocontrol approaches. On the other hand, it also demonstrates that
regression allows for a better user correction of control commands than
classification
Acquired brain injury and evaluation of intensive training of attention in early neurorehabilitation : statistical evaluation and qualitative perspectives
Attention dysfunction is a cardinal symptom after an acquired brain injury (ABI) sometimes leading to life-long consequences that affect learning skills, daily functioning and social and emotional life. Attention may be successfully improved by structured training within rehabilitation programs, with the Attention Process Training (APT) as practice standard in the chronic stage after ABI. Practice recommendations in an earlier stage after ABI are less conclusive, possibly due to difficulties in distinguishing treatment effect from individual trajectories of spontaneous recovery. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was performed at a university department of rehabilitation medicine. Patients with attention dysfunction after stroke or traumatic brain injury received 20 hours of attention training added to their individual rehabilitation program. The patients were randomized to one of two interventions of attention training: APT or activity-based attention training. The thesis focuses on the effect of attention training within four months post-injury.In Study I, the strict inclusion and exclusion criteria common to interventions trials in clinical research decimated patient recruitment, ultimately leading to an inclusion of Study II evaluated the feasibility of time-series measurements using statistical process control (SPC) for detecting change in an evolving process. SPC identified if, and when change occurred and the results described three patterns of performance: rapid improvement, steady improvement and stationary performance showing no improvement. By providing information about when change occurs, SPC enables adjustment of individual treatment response in early cognitive rehabilitation.In Study III, we applied SPC to explore the intervention effect of two methods of attention training: APT and activity-based attention training, within four months post injury. Although substantial improvement of attention was confirmed for both intervention groups, APT lead to an increased robustness of improvement, and resulted in a higher number of improved patients reaching change in performance at a faster rate.Study IV explored the experience of managing attention difficulties in daily life 2-4 years after brain injury and APT. Fourteen interviews were analyzed according to grounded theory and lead to the development of a model of attention management. The attention management emerged as a dynamic process where adjustment and refinement of management strategies increased with awareness and deepened application of applied knowledge, regulated by situation-dependent factors. Self-awareness and the detailed identification of dysfunction derived problem areas, including tenacious self-training with specific goal-setting, were promoted by APT.In conclusion, attention training is a promising intervention in the early stage after ABI with APT potentially boosting the improvement process as seen both during intervention and in the experience of attention management over time. Evidence-based position paper of the UEMS PR M on the role of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PR M) physician in the management of children and adults with spinal dysraphism
Spinal dysraphism (SD) or spina bifida (SB) is a congenital deformity that results from embryonic neural tube closure failure during fetal development. This evidence-based position paper represents the official position of the European Union through the UEMS PRM Section. This paper aims to evaluate the role of the physical and rehabilitation medicine (PR M) physician and PR M practice for children and adults with spinal dysraphism. A systematic literature review and a consensus procedure involved all European countries delegates represented in the UEMS PR M section through a Delphi process. The systematic literature review is reported together with thirty-two recommendations resulting from the Delphi procedure. The professional role of the PRM physician requires specific expertise in the treatment of patients with SD to plan, lead and monitor the rehabilitation process in an interdisciplinary setting and to participate in the assessment of the needs of these patients in the transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, with particular attention to the activity limitation and participation restriction.Peer reviewe

Abstract CIRKOVIC, M., N. MILOSEVIC, M. MARKOVIC and A. POTKONJAK, 2010. Brain myxoboliasis of common carp. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) originating from Serbian fish ponds was examined for presence of Myxobolus encephalicus. The spores of M. encephalicus were present in blood vessels and meningeal layers. Its presence has been noted in 32-days old carp fingerlings, where in brain blood vessels predominate plasmodium parasites shape. Although, plasmodium does not effect blood vessels obturation as it is in the spore's case, clinical signs which were similar to those in trout, occurred in the 15-30 days old carps. Fingerlings growth rate and conversion ranged normally. Blood test results in fingerlings with high number of spores in brain had similar values to those in unaffected fingerlings. The morbidity percentage was higher for carps up to the one-month old cultured in the ponds serving for older carp winter storage
Harmonic diffeomorphisms of noncompact surfaces and Teichmüller spaces
Let g : M -> N be a quasiconformal harmonic diffeomorphism between noncompact Riemann surfaces M and N. In this paper we study the relation between the map g and the complex structures given on M and N. In the case when M and N are of finite analytic type we derive a precise estimate which relates the map g and the Teichmüller distance between complex structures given on M and N. As a corollary we derive a result that every two quasiconformally related finitely generated Kleinian groups are also related by a harmonic diffeomorphism. In addition, we study the question of whether every quasisymmetric selfmap of the unit circle has a quasiconformal harmonic extension to the unit disk. We give a partial answer to this problem. We show the existence of the harmonic quasiconformal extensions for a large class of quasisymmetric maps. In particular it is proved that all symmetric selfmaps of the unit circle have a unique quasiconformal harmonic extension to the unit disk
